Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid
My elders join us at times...but thts not the point... I think there is more to the enthusiasm decline.... 1- as muqa stated...materialism 2- you stated... age factor
There has to be more... How about Increasing of responsibility ? Kids are carefree...not responsible...so they enjoy ?
celebration is connected with novelty. In old days, people normally had simple food and they didn't do ihtemam regularly. Like I have heard from my Dadi, etc that Zarda, Halwa, etc was cooked on special occasions like Shab Barat, etc and was shared with neighbors and other people. The concept was sharing something special occasional. So people used to wait not for food but for the attention they give and get by sharing. Now sharing exist but to limited circle.
I've heard people saying ' ye kuch karte hain to hamen bhejte hain kia.. hum bhi kiyun bhejen'. This is even said for Qurbani ka gosht. This attitude has made things mechanic and lacking excitement.
Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid
wait a minute! is laRii ke aGhraaz o maqaasid kia the?
looks like my reply was “sawaal gandum, jawaab chanaa”! ![]()

Ye bhi aik reason hai...
Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid
You replied to the initial question. So your jawab was not chana ![]()
Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid
start was why Eid Qurban is called ‘BaRi Eid’. Then as is the custom here, connected question ‘why such occasions lost charm and excitement?’.
ab sham e mehfil KKF ke aage rakhi jati hai… ![]()
Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid

In addition to the points put forward by you and micro...I felt increaaing responsibilities could be a factor...as well as... wo expectation dosron k apse...aur apki need to keep up false image(takalluf). So when you try to do all that...eventually it begins to feel like a burden..rather than a day of enjoyment.

You are right. I do feel like this.... traveling and then meeting with all people on Eid in a big family is difficult task for me.
Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid
Another point maybe...
Such occassions bring lots of memories of lost loved ones. It becomes a day filled with grief rather than fun.

This point cannot be ignored but eid did bring back memories back then when people enjoyed it.
Re: Bari eid,Choti Eid
i think the following are the reason for less enthusiasm on Eidai'n among Muslims:
-less money to spend
-desensitization of the occasion
-busy life style [especially in the west if eid falls on the weekdays]
-on-going distancing process among relatives
-mental worries/tensions in life

I think excess money to spend also doesn't guarantee excitement. In some cases, it is the reason for not to be excited. Insaan jitna taraqi karta hai, utna apnon se door hota hai... Maal o daulat ko aise hi to fitna nahin kaha gaya

haN vo bhii hai...faraavaanii bhii ek masalah hai...Qur'aan meN "zan, zar aur zameen" ko fitnaa bataayaa gayaa hai. :)

Are you sure? I only remember Maal o aulad.

I have read it in literature, but not in Quran. Though maal includes 'Zameen', but I don't remember any verse of Quran which calls women as fitna / aazmaish.
