For Hindus I guess it is the same thing, I have never come across anybody who will eat buffalo meat but have an allergy to cow meat. You either eat both or neither I feel. As to why buffalo slaughter is allowed and cow not, I really don’t think there is a logical answer. I guess it is just that cow is thought to be more docile and perhaps needing some extra protection as strange as it might sound

Another amusing thing I always wonder is why do Hindus not eat pork. I have hardly come across any Hindus in India who eat pork. “No Beef, No Pork” is a very common sign across many eating places even in places with very low or negligible Muslim populations. As far as I know there isn’t even any religious directive against eating pork in Hinduism, but perhaps somebody else knows better.
