Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

No need to apolgize, Shak. I wasn’t offended. :hugz:

I don’t believe that regret is the same as apology. And it’s not just Hasina, I think most BanglaDeshis share her sentiment.
I say that after watching the Shehzad Roy and that Baloch man’s show where they vist BD and talk to students in Dhaka.

Pakistan needs to register this with BD in a substantial/concrete way, whether it is called regret or apology.
Something to the order of where the apology is broadcast on national television in both countries smultaneously in an auspicios ceremony attended by both heads of states.
It doesn’t really take much, just a little bit of statemanship.
Not everybody will be pleased, but do our governements really care about pleasing our public anyway ?
But this will go a long way for good-will toward Pakistan.
[Maybe Hasina can even break the ground for a Pak/BD reconciliation/friendship memorial in Islamabad or IK in Dhaka. :hehe:]

Now you are a sensitive and a friendly guy. You even apologized to me when I wasn’t even offended.
Maybe you should soften your heart about BanglaDeshis a little and agree that they do deserve a proper apology.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Let us not overlook the political aspect of Awami League's unrelenting demand for a formal apology.

While Musharraf's "regret" was welcomed by Khalida Zia, it was promptly discarded by Sheikh Hasina Wajid, the then opposition leader, because the two ladies manage contrasting poltical stakes. Sheikh Mojibur Rahman's daughter has a legacy to handle whose political dimensions cannot be altered significantly. Bangladeshi people are also divided into pro and anti-Pakistani camps that are managed by Khalida and Hasina. The former and the incumbent prime ministers take political dividends from the divide in their nation and even if Pakistan does offer a state apology, the issue will always be used for political gains.

Having said that, as far as Pakistan is concerned, I understand that being a responsible and civilised country, Islamabad must go through the formalities of a state apology and close the chapter for once and all.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

well, the mukti bahini's "killings" are only a tiny fraction of the displacement, rape and genocide that took place. but of course, pakistanis know history best, as always.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

I agree with what you said TS :k: But I also agree with Amal that I think no matter what Pakistan says this apology thing is used as a political tool within Bangladesh. I don’t have an issue with a normal Bengali, I find it amazing the support they give to Pakistan’s team whenever we go there! But Haseena ha a few screws loose :hehe:

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

To expect a balanced view from you when it comes to Pakistan is asking too much, but who’s disputing what you’re saying? Unless you’re seeing things I haven’t argued the contrary with regards to who killed who more (ie what you posted) nor have I seen anyone doing so

So me saying BOTH countries should apologise and move on, BOTH countries should have strong relations is apparently somehow distorting history when infact I have admitted the disgraceful killings by our army on innocents.

Just like Taliban are scum and should apologise one day for their killings even though right now they aren’t state sponsored and their murdering dwarfs the USA’s, the same should be for Pak-Bang.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Pakistan should bot worry about how this plays in internal BD politics. Pakistan should do its due part.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Please capitalize the P when writing Pakistan. :emmy: :hehe:

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Not really, from religion perspective a "tauba" is incomplete if you only ask for 'forgiveness' (apology) without 'regret'. In any social relationship when one commits wrong with other 'regret' is nothing unless the wrongdoer apologizes.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

You are right the Bengali's did not join their brothers and never went back to Bharat matta after 25 years of separation Wonder why? Isnt it amazing that the nation which was so moved by the atrocities in East Pakistan that they decided to liberate them purely out of human concerns and their love for mankind, shame they don't apply the same when it comes to Kashmir and quite happily sent over 80,000 6 ft under. Talk about being delusional.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Double standards, double standards. People have them and countries have them. No denying that. :) :(

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

In the grand scheme of things who on earth cares what Bangladesh thinks? atrocities were committed by both sides. There was also an agreement between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh that the issue would never be raised in return Pakistan will recognise their independence. If they really wanted an apology they should have demanded it back in 71'.

I agree with the other posters. We need to clean our own house first and be self reliant.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Don’t you know Ehsan Uncle, we distort history :nono: Even though as I pointed out earlier I haven’t send anything contrary to the post amigo queer posted few posts above.

CE, pretty much spot on.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

NO ! :snooty:

Faisalabad belongs to Faisalabadis, Bengal belongs to Bengalis.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Hey. I care.

This was too fresh in '71 for anybody to think clearly at that time.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Economically speaking everyone rants on about how we would have been more powerful. I have always questioned this in the sense that W.Pakistan would end up paying for the damages that come with mother nature. As we know that part of the region floods and causes damages in the billions.

It's said Bangladesh will be under water in 50 years time.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

Going on a murderous rampage is wrong and I in no way, shape or form would advocate that.

All I am saying is that it's time to move on. Pakistan and Bangladesh don't have a lot in common. If religion was so important to them they would have never gone on killing sprees.

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

^ I never asked to re-unite the two. :)

Re: Bangladesh - Pakistan Relationship

^ Very bad thinking. :emmy:

If you haven’t noticed. For the last two summers, Balochistan has been under water.
