‘India, Pak not good enough for WC’](http://www.cricketnext.com/news/india-pak-not-good-enough-for-wc/top/24284-13.html)

Guyana: Bangladesh are the surprise entrant into the Super Eights stage of the World Cup and their skipper Habibul Bashar has hit out at people who bemoan the absence of India and Pakistan, saying they do not have a right to be in the finals.

“Someone asked me whether the World Cup has become stale after the exit of India and Pakistan,” Bashar wrote in his column in the Prothom Alo newspaper.

“It seems that at any cost India and Pakistan should be included in the Super Eight. They are not saying that India and Pakistan lost two out of their three first round matches,” Bashar said.

Bashar believed that India and Pakistan did not have the right to play in the Super Eights.

“They don’t have the right to play in the Super Eight,” he said. “If this attitude persists, one should organize ‘Top Ranking Cup’ instead of the World Cup, where the teams will play according to their rankings.”

He said that the World Cup was not a property of one or two teams.

“The World Cup is not a property of one or two teams. It belongs to every one and the best team will win the Cup,” he added.

Bashar was annoyed with critics who were still not convinced that Bangladesh should be in the Super Eights even after they caused a big upset by beating South Africa, who were the top ranked ODI team then, by 67 runs on April 7 in Guyana.

“This win was important for us. We have shown we are not just here to make up the group but we are capable of winning too,” Bashar said.

“We always have belief we can play good cricket. We always believe we came in Super Eight because we had done something good in first round. But we needed to prove ourselves as well that we can play at this level,” he said.

Bangladesh meet England in their next match at Barbados on Wednesday, followed by Ireland and West Indies at the same venue.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

*Bete...abhi oochal lo....*just early last week they were burning his effigy back in BD. What a difference a few days makes.

Give India and Pak a few months to get back on the rails...and we will eat his TIGERS for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

^^ Right On

these bengals need to go back to catching matchee

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

Bongs have gone mad with their little success....they are on the same road where India and Pakistan were previously --- the road which leads to over-confidence and hype...only differencve is that Bongs are turning themselves into a hypocrite after winning a couple of ODIs.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots

mandakee ko bhi zukam ho gaya. :rotfl:

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

I think, they already live in water so zukaam is acceptable... it's more like "ChewNTee kaY bhee par nikal gaye" :D

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

I am so glad that Pakistanis and Indians can finally agree on something :)

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

Now lets dissect this Bong team for a second:

Batting is still very inconsistent. The BD batting has revolved around Tamim Iqbal, Aftab and Ashraful. Ironically, all of the three are not very reliable players. The hero of the last match - Ashraful's batting average still hovers in the 20s (he has been in the BD team for long enough and also note that BD has played a number of series against Zimbabwe). Aftab and Iqbal are tulleybaazs for all practical purposes.
The captain, Bashar , has done hardly anything of note of recent. The rest of the batting is as crappy as it gets.
Bowling - Mortaza is a decent pace bowler and Razzaq/Rahim are decent spinners....but none are anything out of the ordinary.

I attribute BD's "success" (winning 2 matches i.e.) to the following :
(1) Young team who appear to bond well . The whole team comes across as culturally monolithic unlike India, Pak and other teams.
(2) They really have nothing to lose when they play matches against big teams. So they are not under as much pressure.
(3) The favorable alignment of the planets. (for example - The lucky 'loss' of the toss against India and SA)

The above said, I will concede that BD has improved from the last time around...but I am not going to hail them as real "TIGERS" yet.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

Bangalis are mentally tough; they want and can face tough situations. They have defeated two favorites of the World Cup, better than England, West Indies and South Africa.

I'll be surprise if they don't make it to semis.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

why is everyone criticizing Bashar for his comments. Isn't it justifiable for him to make comments like these. People are still questioning Bangladesh playing in Super 8 while they beat India fair & square. They deserved to be where they are right now, unlike India & Pakistan who lost their WC matches and rightfully they were eliminated.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

You are probably one of the best writers on this forum but alas, India’s “premature” exit from the world cup has taken away all of your wisdom!

*I have failed to understand that why folks got so upset with what Bashar wrote? There is absolutely no doubt that BD was not welcomed to the super-eight group for commercial reasons. The world cup organization committee was extremely upset upon Pakistan and India’s pre-mature exit from the world cup. As BD captain, Bashar has every right to express his sentiments. More importantly, he has not made any big statement at all. All he has said that “we also belong to the world cup”, “give us some respect” and that “please take us seriously”. That is it. *

*To keep the record straight, it was disgusting to see poor Irish players being forced to play in clouds, rain and virtually no light to give Pakistan a chance to bowl them out and move to the next round. I am glad that it did not happen and Ireland won. *

Here is what Basher said and please tell me where did he made an arrogant statment:

"It seems that at any cost India and Pakistan should be included in the Super Eight. They are not saying that India and Pakistan lost two out of their three first round matches,"

"They don't have the “right” (this is so true) to play in the Super Eight. If this attitude persists, one should organise 'Top Ranking Cup' instead of the World Cup, where the teams will play according to their rankings."

"The World Cup is not a property of one or two teams. It belongs to every one and the best team will win the Cup,"

"This win was important for us. We have shown we are not just here to make up the group but we are capable of winning too”

“We always have belief we can play good cricket. We always believe we came in Super Eight because we had done something good in first round. But we needed to prove ourselves as well that we can play at this level,"

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

One can not question BD playing in super 8 but on the same time Bashar has to admit that WC has been staled by the early exit of India and Pakistan. Why is he so annoyed by the fact that WC has lost its charm with the ousted of PAK and IND?

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

Bangladesh is in the Super-8's. Pak and Indian cricketers are in their respective parliaments answering questions. So, lets have a little reality check here :)

Yes, the World Cup is boooooooring due to no India and no Pakistan, but that doesn't take away the fact that Bangladesh is a vastly improved side. They are young. I am sure in a few years they will be more consistent just like Sri Lanka came up in mid-90's. Pakistan and India are like dinosaurs sitting on their laurels and god-gifted talents of some super-stars. Unless our teams shape up, they will routinely be beaten by the so-called "lesser" teams (or minnows).

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

Except for the 'not good enough for WC' statement, all he said is truth. We have no right to be in Super8 and people who are saying that this WC is dull due to absence of Pak-Ind are not doing justice with the WC. Its a WC not a top ranking or commercial cup that you need the major sponsoring nation till final round. If England, France and Argentina had seen early exits as a defending champions, the soccer WC didn't loose its charm till the final wissel, or did it ever?

I know there have been many issues with this WC, but its more of an administration and planning failure. Games are on. The heat is increasing. Look at the SL/WI, SL/SA and BD/SL games. They were real thrillers.

And for me, as long as NZ and SL are making it to the semis, I will spare my nails for biting during those games.

Chay teams like Ind and Pak who are riding on people's passion, media hype and endorsments only, deserve to sit out and get their heads straights. Saalay, kaam kay na kaaj kay dushman anaaj kay!

One thing is for sure afer BD beating NZ, Ind and SA that this team will be a true challenge for other three Sub-cont teams atleast in ODIs on consistant basis. From now on, sub-cont teams will not take them for granted in a triangular or mini ODI tournaments. You can't write them off.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

Bangladesh defeated South Africa once again reaffirming their rightful place in the super 8. Bashar has all the right to criticize those who question their success and lament India, Pak exits for purely commercial and ethnic reasons.

And shame on those who resort to name callings (Bongo) simply because they were beaten fair and square by the better team. How quickly we forget how Indian and Pakistani players were abused by racial slurs. Thats not cricket.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

I think Bashar is right on with his comments as far as India and Pakistan not deserving to be in the Super 8. Fair enough. The media needs to leave Bangaldesh alone. They deserved to be in the super 8. They have a very young team, lots of teenagers in there, and they showed remarkable ability and mental strength, both attributes that Pakistan lacked. Tamim Iqbal reminds me of a very young Saeed Anwar, he has loads of talent, and he can be an excellent opener if he keeps his head. Then you have people like Ashraful and Aftab Ahmed, both are amazing talents and Mortaza is no slouch either with the ball. So - to those who dream about having 'Tigers for breakfast, lunch and dinner' - I wouldnt be too sure about that....these guys have a lot of talent and ability and have shown more mental toughness than India and Pakistan's current crop of players put together.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

as a post script: Just heard on the IR vs NZ game, lots of tickets are now available for hottest WC games including boxes and 100s of first class tickets, i wonder why :D ;)

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

its good to have one more team in the very limited club of professional international cricket, especially another asian team. they've earned their big-boy status, unfortunately i think it will be extremely hard for them to keep it, im afraid far from evolving like SL they might just evolve like ZIM. they dont have enough talent in this team, batting is OK but the bowling is pretty one dimensional, and if the track isnt spin friendly they will be slaughtered, especially after they've been analyzed properly like everyone will do now. my feeling anyway.

at any rate all this baiting along with India's exit at their hands means that India's tour over there after the world cup will be very, very interesting.

Re: Bangladesh Captain trying to wear bigger boots :)

This is nothing but an emotion run statement or column by Bangladesi captain, and spoken a bit soon I think.
