The VHP must be banned from raising funds in the US and Europe. If this does not happen than it can only mean a SLAP in the face for International Justice. One just wonders why the Bush administration is very KEEN to ban other organisations on circumstancial evidence but when it comes to BANNING Hindutva terror groups, with Conclusive evidence of their direct involvement in the killing of over 2000 Indian muslims, than there is no action whatsoever.
[/QUOTE]

Can you explain how they are raising funds in the US and Europe? I can understand a country like Britain though, as it has a large Hindu body. However, one thing I have realized that these hindu extremists are a large minority as well, and generally, Hindus living abroad detest and hate them, as much as we do, so it is unlikely that they will support them.

Spock I suggest you ask the VHP’s supporters in the US that question.. or better still, send an email to the VHP headquaters in Gujarat. :-P.
It’s no secret that mainstream Hindus in Europe and the USA have been contributing funds to the VHP party coffers.

Btw, The CM of Madhya Pradhesh has also called for the immediate BANNING of the VHP.

Banning VHP, Bajrang Dal vital: Digvijay](http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/holnus/02302007.htm)

Indore, Oct. 30. (UNI): **Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today reiterated the need for banning the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, adding that such a step would be possible only with the Centre’s cooperation. **

In a discussion with mediapersons at the airport here, he said that communal forces would not be allowed to disturb the atmosphere of harmony in the State and peace would be maintained at all costs. Singh expressed confidence that a Congress government would come to power in Gujarat. :k:

He denied that the power tariff was the heaviest in Madhya Pradesh and said that rates were higher in several other States. The State Electricity Regulatory Commission would come to a decision after hearing tariff-related objections and complaints, he added.

I have never seen any VHP supporters here… To be honest, I have not even seen any Hindus even on this forum who support them. So that proves they are only in India, and still happen to be a large minority. As for the CM of Madhya Pradesh, that has nothing to do with their support abroad.

Who said that it was ??? The TOPIC is titled Ban the V.H.P therefore that article is relavent to this thread !!

I know you are desperate to somehow carry out hindu/america bashing simaltaneously, but the fact of the matter is that extremist organizations, such as the VHP have little support in the hearts of Hindus living abroad. The educated ones dont even have sympathy for such extremist parties, and this is a good sign. Have you ever seen any Indian on this forum ever appreciate what these hindu fanatics parties are trying to do? On the other hand, we have seen so many osama supporters here, so categorizing the entire hindu population as muslim killers is absurd and utter stupidity. Now go ahead, make all the personal attacks you want.

Btw, that site you posted, proves nothing, I can show you various MSA sites have similar content too… Virtually all Muslims have animosity towards Hindus, and this kind of hatred b/w each other is making things worse.

dhp, now go back to posting links ;)

But the Indian parliament is in India yar...

VHP/SHIV/RSS have little support, owing to the inhumane views and thoughts towards Muslims. Many such parties operate and terrorize Pakistan as well, even though they are banned officially.

Take action against VHP leaders’](http://www.centralchronicle.com/20021101/0111012.htm)

BHOPAL: Leaders of different political parties and organisations on Thursday urged Chief Minister Digvijay Singh to take strict action against the Working President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Ashok Singhal and General Secretary Praveen Togadia for their highly inflammatory speeches in Madhya Pradesh.

According to these leaders, Digvijay Singh had assured them to take strict against both of them. The delegation comprised MW Siddiqui of Janata Dal, Surendra Singh Thakur and Syed Sajid Ali of Congress, Bal Kishen Gupta, Anand Pandey, Habib, Yousuf Bhai of Communist Party of India, Jaswinder Kaur of CPM, Ramchandra Bhargava of Insani Biradri, Ms Nusrat Bano Ruhi of Secular Manch and others.

The memorandum said that both Singhal and Togadia during their visit to Indore have made highly objectionable remarks against minorities, journalists and the secular people of the country. Similarly a few days back, Togadia had made derogatory remarks against the Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi.

They recalled that how Ashok Singhal after the communal riots in Gujarat while referring to the massacre, said that it was an experiment and if needed such experiments would also be conducted in different parts of the country.

They urged the Chief Minister to direct the police to take necessary action against both the leaders, since they wanted to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the state. In the past eight years, Madhya Pradesh was free of communal tension, hence such elements, particularly the RSS wanted to create communal tension in the state. So it was essential to take action against them.

They recalled that already a complaint against Singhal and Togadia was pending in the Bhopal police stations following their highly provocative speeches.

Mr.Spock, here are ACTUAL facts… Open your eyes dude… the evidence that members of the Indian community in the US, supporting the Hindutva parties is there for all to see. Although the VHP is a registered charity in the US much of its funds end up supporting the VHP agenda of violence and segregation, which we have seen in Gujarat State.

Indian diaspora funding Hindu extremism](Indian diaspora funding Hindu extremism, The Milli Gazette, Vol.3 No.16, MG62 (16-31 Aug 02))

“In the United States, where substantial funds are raised for Hindu extremist agendas, the U.S. Government must act to ensure that organizations that broker terror should not continue to enjoy their non-profit status within the USA.”

It is now no secret that the Sangh Parivar, the collective name given to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu extremist organizations, is exploiting religion (Hindutva) to foment communal violence in India. To this end they are organizing the ultra-right, non-secular and undemocratic forces in India. What is less known is how these forces of injustice and bigotry are funded, especially by the Indian-Hindu communities living abroad.

These organizations receive substantial contributions from Hindus in the United States and elsewhere. The Indian magazine, “Outlook,” in its July 22, 2002, issue published an article by A. K. Sen, titled, ‘Deflections to the Right’. The piece highlighted a component of the chain of funding that sustains Hindu extremism. The article states that the India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF) is one of the more conspicuous charity organizations that raises funds in the United States to support the RSS battalions in India. IDRF lists Sewa International as its counterpart in India. Sewa International and the various organizations it oversees receive over two-thirds of the IDRF funding.

Incidentally, Sewa International, in its mission to transform India, states on its website in a section on ‘Experiments and Results’ with ‘Social Harmony’ that social consolidation can be achieved through social cohesion. Among other things, the website quotes Manya H. V. Sehadarji, Sarkaryawah of the RSS, as saying: “The ultimate object of all these endeavours is Hindu Sangathan-consolidation and strengthening of the Hindu society.” Hindu extremism, like other xenophobic movements, functions through carefully fashioned exclusionary principles whereby all non-Hindus and dissenting Hindus, identified as Hindu traitors, become second-class citizens. In addition, justification of caste inequities, subordination of Dalits (‘lower’ caste communities), women, adivasis (tribal) and other minorities, and the consolidation of a cohesive middle-class base are critical to its momentum.

In the United States, where substantial funds are raised for Hindu extremist agendas, the U.S. Government must act to ensure that organizations that broker terror should not continue to enjoy their non-profit status within the USA. It is interesting that in 1999, the VHP failed to gain recognition at the United Nations as ‘a cultural organization’ because of its philosophical underpinnings. However, the VHP of America is an independent charity registered in the United States in the 1970s, where it has, and continues to, receive funds from a variety of individuals and organizations.

Call to ban inflammatory VHP](http://www.centralchronicle.com/) Indo-Asian News Service

NEW DELHI: Three leading lawyers have called for a ban on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) after its top leader justified the mass killing of Muslims in Gujarat. ‘He is promoting enmity among the masses, which is a crime,’ Supreme Court lawyer Rajiv Dhawan said of remarks by the hardline Hindu group’s chief Ashok Singhal.

At a public gathering in Amritsar, Punjab, Singhal last week justified the killing of Muslims during the sectarian violence that began after the torching of a train carrying VHP activists in Gujarat’s Godhra town. Nearly 1,000 people were killed in three months of bloodshed from February-end.

Singhal said: ‘Godhra happened on February 27 and the next day 50 lakh (five million) Hindus were on the streets. We were successful in our experiment of raising Hindu consciousness which will be repeated all over the country now.’ Dhawan told IANS: 'The statement is criminal in nature. And if he (Singhal) is speaking of a collective ‘we’, then the organisation should be banned." The lawyer said Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, to whose Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the VHP is affiliated, should act on the inflammatory statement.

‘It is nothing but despicable politics. He (Singhal) should be prosecuted,’ Dhawan said. Another Supreme Court lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, said: 'It (the statement) is a clear-cut offence and an incitement of sectarian hatred. It also clearly shows that the VHP is responsible for the violence.‘It is incumbent upon the government to ban the organisation and arrest all senior leaders of the VHP, especially Ashok Singhal and Pravin Togadia, as they have been continuously making such inciting statements.’ Bhushan demanded criminal proceeding against Singhal for his remarks0.

The legal experts said the statement was especially objectionable because it had been made at a time Gujarat was still trying to recover from the tragedy.

They also accused the federal government of indirectly supporting hardline Hindu groups like the VHP. Said Supreme Court lawyer ND Pancholi: ‘Milder statements were made by Muslim organisations like SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India), which was banned. The government was quick to take action against them, but it is silent when it comes to Hindu groups that are so dangerous for the country.’

Added sociologist Imtiyaz Ahmed: "There is no rule of law. The result is that these people can go on making such remarks as long as the government is ineffective in taking action against them

VHP is a well acceptted ,among indian diaspora,U.S and in some other western countries.it receives a very huge amount of money from the indian community and it engages in all sorts of social and cultural activities in the main stream life of indian communities living overseas.VHP has many big funding supporters and it has considerable influence on many western indian missions too.

taking thecase of U.S as an example VHP has supporters in many U.S cities and i personally know many VHP activists in U.S.very surprisingly i know a few pakistani business magnates, who are happened to be hindus, funding VHP.i think they fund it noting its active role in hindu social and cultural activities.

share-the-star, there are two faces to the VHP, one thats depicts an organisation which sponsors social and cultural activities and one that funds extremist ideology in India. What we saw in Gujarat State was an orchestrated plan by the VHP hierarchy to organise attacks against the minorities, calling it justified anger after the ghodra incident. The VHP centre does indeed get a huge amount of its funding from the USA, some of these funds are financing hindutva extremists involved in violent attacks. This is why President Bush must ban the VHP.

The opposition to the VHP is gaining momentum in India.

Paswan courts arrest, seeks ban on VHP](http://news.sify.com/cgi-bin/sifynews/news/content/news_fullstory_v2.jsp?article_oid=12079115&page_no=1) Sify News

New Delhi, Oct 27
Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday courted arrest alongwith thousands of party activists demanding ban on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and arrest of its leader Pravin Togadia under POTA.

Addressing the demonstrators, Paswan flayed Togadia for his “derogatory” remarks against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and denounced the VHP for making “disparaging” statements against the minorities in order to “create communal disharmony” He also blamed the VHP for the killing of five Dalits in Jhajjar district of Haryana.

Paswan was arrested alongwith some 10,000 party activists at the Parliament Street when he was leading a protest march to the Prime Minister’s residence. However, they were released after some time.

**Among others who courted arrest were party vice-president Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and MP Ram Chander Paswan. Paswan also deplored the “anti-Dalit” policies of the Vajpayee government at the Centre and the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh. **

He criticised Mayawati for “not uttering a single word against the VHP who are the real culprits in the Jhhajjar killing.” Earlier, the demonstrators burnt the effigies of Togadia and VHP working president Ashok Singhal at the historic Jantar Mantar here.

A step in the RIGHT direction.. I hope the Bush Administration also investigates the RSS links to US based charities which may have financed the Hindutva violence against the minorities of Gujarat State.

RSS-backed charities under UK scanner](http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/html/comp/articleshow?artid=31194117) Times of India Dec 13, 2002

LONDON: In a significant knee-jerk response to allegations that the saffron pound helped pay for the Gujarat violence, the British authorities have widened the scope of an “open inquiry” into the alleged hate-funding activities of two leading Hindu charitable organisations, Sewa International and the Hindu Swaymsewak Sangh (HSS). The move was confirmed to TNN on Friday by the British Treasury-funded charities watchdog, the Charity Commission, who said it planned to investigate thoroughly the alleged links of Sewa and HSS with Indian groups such as the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Gujarat.

It comes within weeks of a similar move across the Atlantic, in the US.On Thursday night, **Channel 4 television reported that Vanvasi Ashram, which it said was directly implicated in the Gujarat violence, received millions of pounds from Sewa International. **Sewa International President Shanti Lal Mistry told TNN he reserved comment on these “false allegations” until the British authorities make up their minds. He said he wanted to see Channel 4’s dossier of evidence and, if refused, would use legal means to do so. If the allegations are proved, both groups could technically be stripped of charitable status.

According to campaigners putting pressure on the government to “ban” the groups, the loss of charitable status would be a black mark against organisations claiming to represent Britain’s one million Hindus. The Channel 4 special investigation, which travelled to Gujarat and started in a West London shakha, one of 72 run by the HSS in the UK, firmly indicted Sewa and HSS for “raising funds for extreme Hindu groups involved in the massacre (of Muslims)”.

It said, “The HSS remains a British registered charity — eligible for tax breaks, respected by the establishment and recipients of local authority money…(including from the Indian-dominant areas of) Brent, Newham, Leeds, Bradford, Hillingdon (LOSE), Coventry”. It quoted Lord Meghnad Desai to say the HSS is confident that political correctness would guarantee a steady flow of funds.

But highly placed sources within Sewa insisted the bulk of the £2.5 million it raised for the Gujarat earthquake, in concert with the VHP and other groups, was given to Sewa Bharti in India. The sources admitted Sewa International had paid Vanvasi some money, but insisted it was just a “couple of thousand pounds for sponsoring one or two students for education”.

Late on Friday, members of Awaaz-South Asia Watch, an umbrella coalition “against fascism”, issued a call for the government, local authorities, British MPs and political parties, including people like Prince Charles, to “refuse to accommodate sectarian Hindu organisations”. In the past, the Prince has publicly praised Sewa International’s charity work.

On the lines of a British government on-campus ban on the radical Islamist youth group, the Hizbut Tahrir, it called for a ban on the National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF). The NHSF, which regularly meets visiting Indian ministers, including Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, is the largest Hindu youth group in the UK.

DHP
Paswan and others like Bidhuri are all jokers with no political base.Lets not waste our time because they will do all that is possible to show their existence.
But do you think banning of VHP is possible. Its like telling that Pakistan must ban MAM and other similar organisations. We have to live with these but we have to find out to reduce the nuisance value of these organisations.

All this is part of indias internal affairs....we cant really do much about it....we gotta live with it

Guys, I think the international community should do its part to reduce the influence of the RSS on the Indian diaspora.. NRI's throughout the world are contributing millions of dollars to charities which have strong links to the RSS; some have diverted funds into the VHP and other Hindutva charities which in turn utilized this source of funding for spreading the Hindutva policy of subjugation and violence against the minorities.. Thousands were murdered and many more thousands were left homeless by the VHP terror, it is this source of funding that needs to be stopped. So its a case of implementing an International ban on groups such as the VHP . As for taking action In India, that should be left to the Indian Judiciary, not that I have much faith in it.
