LAHORE: Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, the provincial minister for commerce, investment and prisons, on Wednesday suggested a ban on the use of mobile phones, adding that only government officials and other privileged people should be allowed to use cell phones, a private TV channel reported. He said that on one hand, Pakistan was considered to be a poverty-hit nation, yet on the other hand, even men on bicycles were using mobile phones.
**He further said that youngsters were “giving billions of rupees to Christian and Jewish franchises through the mobile phone businesses”. **
Therefore, Ghafoor said, mobile phones should only be with people of “special status”, primarily a select group of government officials. On Tuesday, the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution banning late night packages offered by mobile networks at cheap rates, in order to maintain moral and social values in the society and to prevent vice. daily times monitor
Re: ban mobile phone for common folk ...... punjab minister
Pretty soon this goon of minister would say that only " Some select group of Government officers and privileged class should be given the right to live others should be killed.
My God , what an arrogant prick.
Re: ban mobile phone for common folk ...... punjab minister
why are these politicians so sick and jahil?
they can digest the fact that a common man riding a bicycle can afford telecommunication services just as they can?
Re: ban mobile phone for common folk ...... punjab minister
I was driving on Murree Road (I refuse to call it Benazir Road) a few weeks ago and was astonished to find moronic motorists txting crazily while driving and this included motorcyclists too. Granted the city congestion makes the commute slow, but txting while riding a bike isnt acceptable no matter what!
Cell Phone shops around the corners and shadi halls are two things in Pakistan that spread like wildfire! Its a nation obsessed with Cell Phones, seriously.
Re: ban mobile phone for common folk ...... punjab minister
Banning is crazy but there should be regulation and obtaining a sim card should not be THAT easy or THAT cheap. Heck last time I went I bought my sim card for 125 rupees only that also without identity card!
Re: ban mobile phone for common folk ...... punjab minister
Its ridiculous law . But again , people who are legislating can only do this . They are not ''allowed'' to legislate regarding stuff that really matters .
Re: ban mobile phone for common folk … punjab minister
He only suggested the ban, it’s not like they are going to impose it.
PS: Communication in Pakistan is damn cheap. Texting in Pak is even cheaper than here in UK …my friend recently came from Pakistan and she told me…in pak you get something like 500 txts for just 5-10 rs …and at night, after 11pm, the cost is further reduced by 50%.
