Re: Balanced Diet
Arshad I wasnt even talking about losing weight here or reducing calories. Im referring to what K posted originally…she was talking about proteins, carbs, etc and how much intake is appropriate.
I simply stated that the importance of this is NOT limited to athletes alone like you mentioned. That it is an important factor to anyone that is trying to achieve a certain weight loss, weight gain, weight maintenance goal.
be careful because some meats have lots of fat 2. Stick to lean meats like chicken breasts. Pop open a can of tuna…the easiest way to consume protein in your diet…think its about 22 grams of protein for a small can.
Re: Balanced Diet
I know what you were saying AE and I still disagree. A normal person should try to eat heathy food but not be too concerned with how much proteins and carbohydrates they are taking and in what proportion ( which is what the questioner asked).
Btw AE do you have any credible links that show that taking protein helps reduce weight?

Arshad, a "normal" person looking to increase muscle mass needs to eat lots of protein this a known fact among nutritionists.
Also for a person looking to reduce weight shouldnt be comsuming too many carbs.
It is also a fact that a high protein diet burns fat. I am sure you can google "benefits of eating a high protein diet" or simply pick up a book or even ask a nutrionist. I am sure you will find that being concerned about how much protein you consume and how many carbs you eat isnt limited to athletes alone. :)
Re: Balanced Diet
AE the way to increase muscle mass is by proper exercise and not just by eating protein. It takes very little protein to produce muscle growth, which an average person would anyway obtain anyway from everyday food. An average person will grow their muscle by exercising without any additional protein added to the diet. If they are really training hard then they come under sport activities anyway.
A person looking to reduce weight needs to reduce his calorie intake or burn more calories. Eating carbs. in itself is not a problem, so long as the calories do not increase. If you eat a lot of carb. resulting in a lot of calories then it could be a problem. Or if you are on a carb. only diet. But then if you eat a lot of junk food the same thing would happen. Calorie have more an effect than carbs. The average person will not be just eating carbs.
Now I need to learn about eating protein to reduce weight. :)
