I know its not that soon, but wanted to know people living in uk/usa? what do u guys do? send money back home for Qurbani, Or do it here?
which option and why?
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
We do it..my husband does it himself at a farm owned by a Muslim brother! He believes that's the true spirit if qurbani and I agree with him as long as he bring the cut meat home :D
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
yes...i do send money to my folks in my village where they buy home-grown bakras. it's cheaper, it's better and it's disease free...also, we buy bakras at in their prime age.
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
we send money to pakistan(our home) and buy mutton/beef from supermarket for ourselves here and its just because we find it easy to do as we dont have any relatives/close friends here...just the two of us....
but its better to do qurbani by your ownself.....that is what bakra eid is for!
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
Of course it must be better to do it yourself.....however, wouldn't you think that there are so many more needy people back home?
I have always preferred to send the funds there and allow the meat to be distributed amongst the truly poverty-stricken folks.
I've been told that this is not the right way to handle things and that it is required that you consume/retain a third portion for yourself and a third for relatives but what's the harm in distributing 100%? I haven't been convinced otherwise as yet.
Perhaps someone here can convince me......

true...there are more genuinely needy people back home...i've a solution for those who want to do it themselves where they live so they could use the meat as well...they can do it here and use all the meat themselves but send the cost of meat [going rate of similar meat in your town] to the needy people back home.

yes...and this is twice the cost then......
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
We do it here. The men slaughter and cut the meat, ladies pack it away, and kids drive around distributing it.

how? you would have bought the meat anyways for your own consumption! give that amount to the poor instead of meat...now, doesn't that make sense? :)
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
I cant even kill a housefly that comes inside the house. I try to catch it gently and release it outside the house. Having said that, I cant slaughter an animal (I will happily eat if someone else kills the animal for me :D)
We send money through hidaya.org. As long as they slaughter the animal in pakistan after I am done with me eid namaz in USA, I am all ok.

It may make sense on paper but my heart does not allow me to believe that I will have fulfilled my obligation of qurbani......
I'd rather just send the money to Pak and let them do the proper qurbani there. I will purchase meat as needed for my own consumption here.
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
Muzna is right. Giving away money does not take care of the obligation of Qurbani. When it says Qurbani, it means Qurbani
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
but what about the poor people in our own communities?
We gave zakat money to the somalian immigrant workers in our state and to the Muslim refugees living in here and plan to do so with the qurbani as well.. I feel like it takes care of the obligation! I am very supportive of my husband performing the qurbani himself, alhamdulillah, and the fact that we distribute it to poor and friends and family here, it's godo enough for us!
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
we do this too...

wow, good job to your husband. well i'd love to do this too..
And yes i'm sure we have poor people here too,its a good idea to distribute gosht among them.
The main charm is with Qurbani, but unfortunately we'll be sending money back home, thats how my in-laws do it.

yess there are many poor people here too!
and eid doesnt look like eid if we dont go for qurbani....
Re: bakra Eid and Qurbani.
It think it largely depends on where you live and if you have knowledge of the poor muslim community around you.
If you feel there are deserving and needy people in your area then by all means do the Qurbani yourself .
But people like us who are living in non desi areas and find it extremely hard to locate no more than one or two needy families, then there is no point in doin the Qurbani here. My husband and I send money to our Parents, who in turn get the bakra's and do the Qurbani at home in Pakistan and then they distribute the meat amongst the needy. We dedicate our part of the meat to our immediate family members who may not be doing very well in life.
I know for a fact due to so much mengaai in Pakistan alot of people cant even afford to buy a whole animal or even buy a part in an animal. They may not come under the most needy category but if they are immediate family there is no harm if we dedicate our part of the share of meat to them , so that they and their family can enjoy meat or send it to their close friends.
