Has anyone tried the orange cake mix? I can't remember if its Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines but paired with chocolate frosting, milk or dark, it is DIVINE!
I tried it! I also got an apricot/mixed fruit jam and cooked it down to a spreadable consistency and made a two layer cake with the jam in the middle. I iced the cake with a whipped cream frosting and topped it with toasted almonds - if was delish, if I do say so myself.
Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide
Brilliant thread - one that I will be contributing to very soon hopefully. And Sunset Eyes your cake looks brilliant! Did you write on it in chocolate or is that icing?
Thanks Milly!
AmorAmor (nice name) Thank you - yes thats pure melted chocolate.
Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide

Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide
^ if you want top tier, then go with either ghirardelli's or scharffen-berger. both of these you can find at williams-sonoma, although i've seen ghirardelli's at walmart and supermarkets too.
otherwise, you can't go wrong with fry's.
i personally use fry's for my baking, unless the recipe calls for melted chocolate- then i opt for scharffen-berger. its pricey, but well worth the taste.

Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide
I have bookmarked this post! I LOVE IT!!!!!! I really want to properly get into baking aswell! I love CAKES!!!!
Hello fellow bakers.
Sorry i have been away. Been a busy bee!
Zyiena - what recipe are you using? I dont like the idea of keeping cakes in the fridge. The cold temperature makes it all hard. All cakes should be stored in an airtight container - in my opinion.
SGC - how are you dude? It seems entries to this thread having reduced.
Just to let you guys know that i will be baking my friend the cake which is egg free, dairy and nut free. Its for this sun morning. Wish me luck! Will post pics!
Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide
Looking forward to it sunset eyes :)
Hey everyone. I'm new to these forums and I think this baking guide is fabulous. I wanted to share one my favorite baking sites, not sure if it's already been posted.
It's Bakerella dot com, sorry can't post any links as this is my first post :/

OMG, your cake looks beautiful!! Masha Allah!!! ![]()
My anniversary is coming up, and I wanted to bake a real nice cake for my hubby myself.
Can you please tell me a yummy tested recipe and suggest what kind I should make..
Well if you can fit your cake in a jar…yes! haha! Otherwise, an empty container ie a choc box or you can get cake tins for storage.
Thanks AA - Happy Anniversary. Im sorry i cant share my recipes but you can find lots of cake recipes on the web. I am not sure what you guys like? How about strawberry and buttercream. Strawberries are linked to romance? ![]()

very useful!!!
I agree with SGC - this website is great - a wonderful source of help and inspiration for anyone to try even for beginners. The reviews make it even more easier to try out the recipe.
So here it is - Dairy free, Egg free and Nut free cake. It turned out as the client said “awesome”. The niece had some and was alhumdullilah fine.
Strawberry filling with chocolate buttercream all round with strawberry and raspberry topping.
