I woke up with the worst back-ache ever. I got it while sleeping. The bed is very comfy. And no, I didn’t do anything to go blind either.
I am not interested in the CAUSES but in remedy. Please tell me how to get rid of it. It’s in the lower back. 3/4 way down my neck and 1/4 way up my butt.
Get a massage and tell the masseuse to focus on your back. Or, take a long hot bath .... or, stand in the shower and just let the hot water run over you. By the way, I'm not flirting. :p

Such a backpain was a recurring problem for me too. Whenever I woke up with such a pain, I'd do my stretching, workout and shower. My back would feel better for a day or two and then the pain would return. The cycle continued until one night, while in bed almost asleep but not quite, I realized that my lower back was extremely tense. Essentially, I was going to bed with a lot of mental stress.
I know you are not interested in the "CAUSES", but in my case the remedy lied in cognizance of the cause. Now I read a relaxing book before going to bed, and it helps me relax.
Definitely Amelie, except Yoga can actually hurt the back. Pilates, on the otherhand, really works your back muscles and will help you develop better posture. Trust me, you will notice the difference. Do some pilates Funguy. :)
Buy a beginner's pilates tape. I have the Stott Pilates tape by Merrithew. It's quite good. It's better to go to the classes as the instructors will show you how to do everything properly and will come around and put you in the proper positions.
Anyway, for temporary relief, a massage should suffice. However, for long-term results, pilates and yoga do help your posture, except yoga can actually be rough on your back. Pilates takes that into consideration and focusses on strengthening your back muscles while not putting them into agony as can happen in yoga.
Also, check your chair at work and make sure it isn't broken and is set properly according to your height and location of your keyboard. That can also mess up your back.
take an Advil.. the ad on the corporate channels says most doctor's recommend it for a backache then any other medicine... they can't be wrong .. right?
Thanks Mehnaz, PA and Fraudz. My colleague at work has chronic back problems and he is recommending Aleeve. I'll stop by Walgreens on the way home.

Femme, I am not sure what kind of people you work with but here it's quite professional and asking ladies to blow kisses usually ends a hunk like me in the HR office.
Took a couple of Aleeve caplets and had a much better night. The pain is not even half of what it was yesterday. I can sit straight for longer periods of time.

I have never heard that Yoga hurts the back any more than positions and movements in any activity, even pilates...done incorrectly, can harm your back. Could you clarify?
Yes, you are right Amelie. In any form of exercise, if you don't do it properly, you will definitely feel the pain. It's just that in my experience, any time I've done yoga, I find that the shoulder area of my back hurts more cause there is so much more pressure on this part when you are in the downward dog and then cobra positions. It usually leaves me a bit sore. :p
