Baby Names

Re: Baby Names

^ ahahahhaha! i know that feeling! it bothers me too which is why i tell everyone "my" names!

i have a friend at work who was complaining that her names isabelle and lillian were taken and she was just waiting for someone to take elizabeth... but really, those are common names! especially amongst the italian set.. thats like saying, oh i hope no one names their kid aliya cos thats my name and meanwhile, half the population has that name :p

Re: Baby Names

sgc - I think she had researched some super-duper unique names that were extremely uncommon, if not non-existent. Uniqueness is fine and dandy, but it's just dumb when the name doesn't even sound pretty :P And super-guarding common names is just stupid.

Btw, I think 'Eva' is very pretty! How about Zachary/Zackary for a boy obviously, or is Gabriel final?

Re: Baby Names

zachary is very jewish so i think my fam would have issues with it... same with Ava. i love Ava too but Eva is the christian version so thats what we're going for. whats the arab version of zachary? is it zachariah?

and you're right- i've heard some weird ass names out there that sound like people made them up... like ayra. what is that?

oh, as an aside, Inaayah is a very pretty arabic name for a girl.

did you also know that Camilla and Skye are arabic names with pretty meanings? Skye means water giver, and Camilla means the perfect one.

Re: Baby Names

I've hear dof desis taking words from teh Quran and using them as names......?

Re: Baby Names

Yeah Zakariyya is the arabic version of Zachary, still nice though!! Inaayah is beautiful.

Not to only isolate black people, but some of them have really, and I mean really made-up names Taniqua, Shaqwana. Umm… :halo: might as well be aquamarine or something.

Re: Baby Names

hahah, what, your daughter won’t be named Shaquanda? :stuck_out_tongue:
white people do it all the time too but naming your kid after a brand is stupid! apparently there are enough Chanel’s and Nike’s out there.

i think gabriel is final for us, but who knows- its a long way till we have a kid! things could change!

Re: Baby Names

lol - hellllllll no :P That sounds like anaconda LOL

Okay I think we've derailed this enough :P Sorry Sara!

Re: Baby Names

yeah, well the sidra i knew came from the "sidrat'ul'muntihah" which is some tree at the gates of heaven? i can't remember precisely what it meant. her younger sisters were Aiman and Hiba.

Re: Baby Names

what about Shaniqua? Shaniqua can be pretty :p

sorry, sara! you just open threads that encourage all sorts of fun convos!

Re: Baby Names

I wonder where black people get thier names from, some names after hearing them are just so.. "black"... like Shamika, Tamika, etc...alot of them have Muslim names but aren't Muslim (I think)... There wa s comedian (who was black) who joked abt black ppl having weird names, like twins named Duaan and Da'aduaan ("the one..and da other one") or leimonjalo and oranjalo (lemon jello and orange jello)..

Re: Baby Names

As long as they're fun and not ahem defensive/instigating/flaming... :D

Re: Baby Names

it doesn't get that hectic around here OR in the weddings forum, u know this :p

Re: Baby Names

^ Oh yes it does....you've not been here lnog enough :D

Re: Baby Names

well if they stopped shutting down threads, maybe we could resolve it... :P

Re: Baby Names

What about when you suggest someone a beautiful baby name (after searching for one over the internet for hours) and when people ask them who suggested this adorable name for their baby, they reply “got it from internet”!:bummer:

I mean pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee people have some curtsy, that person has invested their time in searching for it… atleast a little acknowledgement would be quite rewarding!:naraz:

Re: Baby Names

never make the mistake of revealing your favorite baby name!

Re: Baby Names

dude, that sucks!

i’d be ticked off too if i didnt get due credit for suggesting a lovely name that i spent hours searching for… hmph. some people just dont wanna give props.

Re: Baby Names

Well i was a teacher and ended up having bad associations with certain names-i know it aint right but i taught a loads of "Shazia's" and "Suleman's" that i didnt want a common name for my child. Also if the kid was a brat in class, i wudnt wanna name my child after that kid no matter how much of a lovely name he/she had. So thats y i chose something very different which my hubz thought was cute as well. I only heard of one person with my daughters name...she was Jordainian. Which is why its my username on here as well as my daughters name!:)

Re: Baby Names

doesn't yours have an "r" in there too? i thought her name was Armani! :D

Re: Baby Names

don’t suggest names to people unless it is your brother or sister  Glad you learned your lesson.
