Baby Name Stealing!

Don’t you just hate when friends name their newborns the same as your kid’s name. and then they tell you that they thought of it themselevs?
or their mom suggested it. or they had it in their mind from way before you kid was born. like 2 years ago? uughhhhhhhhhhhh

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

Maybe they really really liked the name. Take it as a compliment!

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

yeah, it happened to me. I said I wanted to name my son this name and mentioned it to her, and she was weary of it, but they ended up going with that name. I didn't mind cause I still love that name and it really suits the little boy who received that name.

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

not yet ... but I would be flattered. Anyway no one has copyrights over names. :)

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

A not-so-close friend of my mum has 3 children also, in the same order as us siblings (boy, girl, girl) but a little younger than each one of us.... they have the same names as us....... my mum was so angry and said it was creepy but i found it flattering... it's only a name!

wow!
you people are waaaaay toooo nice :)

I was so mad in the emotions that it didnt occur to me that this can be taken as a compliment too!
oh well, you are right, i don't have copyrights on the name afterall :)

Might be a possibility you are just annoyed for nothing.

We thought of a female name at the time of our first child who happened to be a baby boy but we used the same girl name 3.5 years down the road when we were blessed by a baby girl.

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

With MashAllah a big khandaan and social circle, it was hard for us to decide on a name that no one had, and I didn't want to pick one just because no one had it. It had to be a name I liked. So anyway, we did find one for a girl that is unique amongst family and friends. And there are about 100 people due around the same time we are, so we've been letting everyone know our plan, so that it doesn't get taken!

I don't know what we'll do if it's a boy.

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

You have any idea how many Ahmad I know? How unoriginal of them!

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

but sometimes its true... some ppl have thought of names taht they would give their kids when they have them... when they themslves were KIDS... i always loved hamza.. ever since i was a kid myself... i didnt go with it.. but i have quite a few hamzas around me.. a friend had a baby a month before me and named him taht.. i still planned to call mine hamza .. just cuz someone else had their baby first doesnt mean i cant name my child what i had always wanted to call it..

a reverse thing happened... when we had our son, another friend had hers too, so since hamza was out of the window (hubby didnt like it), we were searching on the net and came across the name we gave our son... a few months later we run into our friend and turns out .. she had named her son that too... now it wouldnt be fair to say i copied the name my friend gave her son now.. would it?

plus.. i woudl take it as a compliment if someone else named their kid the same name as my kid.. :)

ooh, what is it? what is it?

carpdiem- you're not alone! i'd be upset too. it takes a lot of effort to find a name that's pretty and original in a sea of similarity.

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

how about re-cycled names in the same family...my bro had the same name as mine who died in his infancy and so is my sister's name...:)

lols we're still happiest with Enaya Fatima. Hubby calls her Enoo :D

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

awwww super cute! isn't it Inaya though? or is the pronounciation more "En"?

on a related note, i met these two little girls Zoya and Eshaal who are so cute they make me love those names. those are the kinds of names i wouldn't mind passing on to my kids- names that remind me of someone i love or someone totally cute :p haha

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

^ E and I seem to work for pronounciation, and hubby prefers the E. I like both. So we decided on the E.

I like both those names too!

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

^ careful not to call her Enaya all the time now until you meet her though! my aunt and uncle and the whole family were calling my cousin Marina the whole time she was developing and by the time she was born, they were so tired of it, they decided to name her Lina! haha

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

^ I call her Pumpkin :D

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

Awww i'm having a girl this December too inshallah and have also planned to call her Inaya. Does anyone here know how it's written in Arabic?

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

I definitely understand the frustration here. Yes someone may like the same name as you, but if they know that you have already chosen that name then why do they insist on having that same name too? There are so many beautiful names out there.

I personally wouldn't want to be in a family where there are other kids with the same name as me!

Re: Baby Name Stealing!

Sheesh..if thats your biggest problem and the thing thats on your mind then God bless YOU!!!
