Re: baby girl names??
we named our girls Ayman and Aleezay... and we really love their names.
If i would ever get another girl, i will name her Shanzay for sure.
Shazmeen and Eshal are also good choices but they've already been taken in our family.

Re: baby girl names??
i think it is... cos islamic names have to have good meanings and Eden is another word for Paradise, right? an alternative i've heard these days is Junnah, but i prefer Eden too. and Eva (from Bibi Hawwa).
Good point, I do like the name Eva too.....how do you pronounce it?
Re: baby girl names??
Sophia -- I like that pronunciation over Sufya. What do you think?

Re: baby girl names??
not according to this website- http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Aarya.html
i think its best to consult with a buzurg regarding the real meaning- i know my grandfather knows a heck of a lot more than i do!
Re: baby girl names??

E-va... although in hungarian, which is the hub's culture, its pronounced A-va cos they spell it with an accent over the E. also in hungarian, they sometimes tend to change it to évie.
its way too common in hungarian, which has me leaning more towards Eden.

this is one of our top choices for girls, except i like to spell it Sophiya so it force the "iya" pronounciation... i don't like the way its pronounced in pakistan with the soft "ia" sound and only two syllables... SO-fia...
i prefer So-FEE-YA where the emphasis is on the last two syllables instead of the first one, and its three syllables in total.
Re: baby girl names??
somegroovy chick i checked with an arabic writer/language expert i know- he’s the one who told me it’s not a good meaning. one website does not proove the meaning of the word when there are so many others that don’t confirm that meaning AND an actual arab speaker who knows the language and can look it up.
Re: baby girl names??
^ well then. i'll let my friend know who's absolutely hooked on that name.
and sahar, i think you could... you and hubs have to set the precedence in terms of pronounciation and correct anyone who mispronounces... i'm sure eventually people will get it :)
we love it cos its a beautiful name, etc. but its also one of the few that work cross-culturally.
Re: baby girl names??
^ Yup.
Uff this thread has me looking up names for children I don't have!
Re: baby girl names??
alrighty, this is what my friend said-
"The name that we’ve picked - ‘Ārya’ or ‘Aarya’ - can sometimes be confused with the term “Aryan” which then brings out some of the stuff you mentioned above.
"
however, this article doesn’t mention the arabic meaning, so i guess your friend/scholar was right about that.
