Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

hahaha spam…baby furniture for the office lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

Eventho we were pretty certain we were having a girl, we kept things very gender neutral. I don't think it's too hard these days, lots of greens, oranges, yellows, whites, browns work nicely. And pink, blue, purple accents are fine.

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

thanks for the link SGC--Im gonna take a peak soon. We went to Babies r us yesterday and saw many of the things--gonna go to other stores today too and see everything first then decide.

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

oh, and another thing for you, outside of nursing bras, is the nursing poncho. this is the one i got yesterday- Best Selling Products - Free Shipping Over $99 – Dear-Born Baby
unlike the nursing covers that leave one arm and back exposed, this thing goes all around, like a poncho, so its full coverage. a very good friend of mine used to take her baby everywhere and feed him under the poncho and it was the most convenient thing ever, i thought.

i also really want to get a carrier like the ergo or beko, but apparently those are for when babies are 12 lbs up, so we decided to wait and then get it once i could test it by actually putting the baby in it.

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

also, diapers! don't forget to get those! :D

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

about diapers--which do you girls recommend: huggies, luvs or pampers

Got a bassinet sheet, bassinet pad, waterproof crib pad, crib sheet, and changing table cover today:)

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

Interesting cover–had no idea it existed!

what sort of carrier; bjorn???

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

What bath products do you girls recommend: Johnson and Johnson or Aveeno and why? or any others...

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

i got the johnson's gift set from babies r us at my shower. my bff said her paed recommended not using it until the baby was a wee bit older because it can dry out their skin. she used just plain warm water since she said they don't really get dirty as such in the beginning to warrant body washes and whatnot. i think i'll still go ahead and use the johnson's stuff but diluted in water and of course, i'll be using moisturiser or baby oil to prevent dryness so i think they should be fine, but we'll see.

for carrier- definitely not the bjorn; either the beco or the ergo. i haven't read very good things about the bjorn in two main ways-
1. babies shouldn't dangle by their crotch and the way the bjorn works, that is how they hang. its not a very comfortable or ergonomic position for baby and can apparently be hard on parent's back/shoulders too. the beco and ergo have them in a seated position on their bum. the ergo only faces inwards, the beco faces inwards and outwards.
2. i keep reading young babies shouldn't be facing outwards because they can apparently become overstimulated by everything they see and they don't have the option to turn away their faces as they can when they're facing inwards. i guess this bit mainly depends on your baby, but the crotch thing has me thinking of the beco or ergo for sure. the beco has an infant insert, but for the ergo (at least the one i was looking at, the ergo sport, baby has to be 12lbs +). IMHO the best thing would be to wait until he/she is here and then try it out with them to see if they, and you, like it. they look quite intimidating, i have to say, with the multiple straps and what nots so i think they'll definitely take some practice and getting used to putting the baby in and taking them out.

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

i wanna know too! i have a whole pack of size 1 and 2 huggies that a friend of mine is giving me because her daughter outgrew them before she used up the whole pack so i guess i'll be starting with those, but my bff said pampers are better. help!

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

Pampers diapers are better than huggies but I really liked Target's brand Up & Up diapers, they are very good and cheaper too!

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

I tried both huggies and pampers. Hospitals mainly use Pampers so I got bunch of those for early days from the hospital. I had a big pack of huggies so for my baby I tried both to see which one I liked. Huggies leaked MAJORLY! I am a pamper fan now. They don't leak at all.

As far as baby wash and lotion are, I used aveeno initially because of more natural products in it but once I ran out of those I bought Johnson's and they work just as good and are much cheaper then aveeno. I'll stick to Johnson. Just moisturize your baby well and the regular washes are good, they are made for babies.

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

thanks for the input! Some pediatricians have told me that Aveeno is better than J&J. Both are made by the same company--guess its all trial and error--each baby is different. Saw on line that Burt's Bee''s is paraben and phathalate free--sounds ideal but is expensive.

Any input on Luvs??? Apparently many of the 1980's mom's loved them--but diapers have changed so much since we were babies lol

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

blusing Rose....luvs are really good too.So are pampers.I used Huggies too when my daughter was a newborn but I had too many leaks with those.Pampers worked great at thattime.I tried Luvs once and I use them now, they have been great!!

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

Dont stock up diapers with a newborn... Use what they give at the hospital and buy small packs... Cuz ure baby may do huge jumps in the first few weeks... My son wore a size 1 rather than a newborn when he was born, and then went to size 2 in just a month... And size 3 very soon afterwards... Not cuz he was fat.. But cuz he was a tall baby... So ure baby may not fit in the weight zone stated on the diaper pack (my son wears 2 sizes above the recommended weight stated on the diaper pack!!), but may need latger size due to its height.

Pampers suck here... Leak everytime... Huggies or libero all the way!

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

I've used Huggies once, but have preferred Pampers. Huggies are okay tho. I just found Huggies would get hard and seemed uncomfortable.

And yes, I agree with khawa. Use what the hospital gives you.

Also, i found the weight guidelines were not relevant that are written on the diapers. Bunny always wears the bigger sizes.

Holy moly long list! Where is it from?

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

its from Baby and Children’s Product News

Re: Baby essentials, shopping, and registries

Saher02--read in a much earlier post that you got a Baby Jogger; after using it for a while how do you feel about the stroller--would you still go with this one or something different. I really like UPPA baby G-luxe and the MacCleran Triumphe. Anyone had experiences with these strollers???
