What I want to ask is, the best doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants, business people, etc that we see being so successful, do they only come from ivy leagues and ‘big’ schools? I highly doubt it.
Spiral, it’s a very common desi mentality. Everything is measured by prestige and the ‘name’. Just like how unless you’re a doctor or engineer, you’re not good enough in the desi society. I feel pity when I see people like that, they appear to me as shallow beings who only learn to bask in their glory and put others down. Isn’t it funny that Einstein didn’t even go to college? Bill Gates is a drop out? I know Yale and Harvard grads who cannot spell. I have seen the smartest of kids who don’t go to any ivy leagues. Two of my hubby’s best friends are in their 4th year of medical school at Univ. of Miami, their age? 21 and 22, so highly smart that they did 6 year bs/medicine programs and are now going to John Hopkins for their residencies. And I think we all know the caliber and standards of JHU.
I have friends who are more successful in their careers than people I know who graduated from Ivy Leagues. We have so many examples on GS itself, people who didn’t go to the omg-the-top schools in the world but have mA, flourishing careers. Forget careers, I have seen some really smart and intelligent people on GS who I am sure didn’t acquire their skills from some school name. What we forget is that not everyone can afford to attend a big shot school, financial and family factors play a big part in these decisions. In the end, it’s important to have the drive to be good and successful at what you do but you can’t put a brand name on intelligence, and those who don’t go to ivy leagues don’t deserve to be put down.
