Australia in India 2004-05 {2nd test match @ chennai {madras}}

Lehmann Gone

if india wants to win then there lead should not exceed 250 other wise i think it will be impossible.

Kumble strikes again and Warne is History .... looks like another collapse on teh cards

:k:

*AUS 351/8 a lead of 210 ..... with Two quick wickets India is back into the match ..... now they must get the last 2 wickets quickly and try to avoid Clarke hitting a few lusty blows to keep the target around 230 which itself will be a tough ask *

Still another 12 overs to go and AUS lead India by 222 with 2 wickets remaining

i think australia will win this one too despite the hard work by indians....

Ya ur thinking can be wrong :p

130.6 Kumble to Kasprowicz, OUT: got'm! pitched in line and hits Kasprowicz on the pad, loud appeal and umpire Koertzen is convinced, ninth wicket falls

   Australia 364/9, Partnership of 17
   MS Kasprowicz lbw b Kumble 5 (19b 0x4 0x6)

13th wicket for kumble in this match....

133.5 Harbhajan Singh to McGrath, OUT: all over! quicker delivery, perfect yorker, McGrath plays all over it and gets bowled, Harbhajan ends up with three wickets

   Australia 369/10, Partnership of 5
   GD McGrath b Harbhajan Singh 2 (6b 0x4 0x6)
   MJ Clarke 39* (98b 4x4) Harbhajan Singh 47.5-12-110-3

and that means India will have to bat today the target is 229 runs!

India should win it tomorrow.

^ Well 229 is a diificult score to achieve on the 5th day. India will have to set a new 4th innings chasing record on the ground.
Also, I don't trust the Indians to score that many runs under pressure. Hope I am surprised.

Anyways, full marks to Damien Martyn. He never looked in trouble and the fact that being a non-native he could survive for so long in the unforgiving Chennai heat is commendable. So also Gellespie.

Finally, Parthiv Patel need to be shown the door now. He again missed 2 crucial stumpings and let go many byes.

^ Patel simply sucks. His batting is okay but his main job is keeping. Hoping Kiran More, being a fine keeper himself doesnt ignore the fact that Patel's keeping has cost indians more than his runs benefitted them.

What incredible performance by Martyn. Australians showed all the grits they are famous for. But I hope Indians score the record runs tomorrow. Should be fascinating day tomorrow.

No matter who wins this test match, its going to be a fantastic final day of play. You can't ask for a better test match, really.

I don't see what the point in playing a speacilist keeper in a test if he can't do his technical job right. You might as well play a batsman who can keep instead of Patel, they would do the same job.

This game will be really close now. I think the Indians still have a really good shot. I still don't see the point in playin Yuvraj instead of a real openor. If you had a realy openor with Sehwag who can hold his wickets togeather I think you would have an excellent shot.

Besides that, what happend to Irfan Pathan yesterday. I saw so little of him.

Exactly my thoughts. But Dravid does not appear to be keen to keep wickets in test matches. The other prospect - Dinesh Karthik (who was in action in the ICC series recently) is also like Patel - more batsman..less of a keeper.

I feel Nayan Mongia should be recalled. He was unceremeniously dumped due to match-fixing allegations which by the way was never proved in his case. But I dont think Nayan would be back...knowing how Indian selection board works.

That leaves us with Deep Dasgupta. In the words of Robin Singh - He is more of a goalkeeper than wicketkeeper. So there u go.

Anyways, to win this test match India will need at least 2 batsmen to score around or above 60-70 range. Unfortunately, I have more faith in Pathan's and Harbhajan's batting right now than in Ganguly/Laxman/Yuvraj.

One may also recall a similar kind of situation when India last played Pakistan on this very ground. The Indians were set a target of around 215 runs in the 4th innings.

First, there was a collapse, I think India were 90/5 at one point....then Tendulkar and Mongia steadied the innings and brought India to the brink of victory. And then, Mr Tendulkar decided to go after Saqlain for no reason, got himself out...the Indian tail folded soon after. Pak won.

I have not forgiven Tendulkar for that reckless shot to this day.

^ Pakistan set India 272 to win that day.

Regarding wicket keeper, I saw Pankaj Dhoni (right name?) in recent A teams Triangular in Kenya, he scored two centuries and kept really well too. I feel that he can be the answer to indians dilemma.

You are probably right about the target score but the Indians did manage to steal defeat from the jaws of victory - thanks mainly to Tendulkar.

I have not seen Dhoni play so can't speak for his credentials.

match drawn :|

After 4 days of blistering heat...the weather gods chose today to put thandaa paani on what would have been a very absorbing day's play.

Oh...well.
