Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Steven Smith won the toss and chose to bat in the fourth Test at the SCG, where India made four changes to their line-up in an attempt to end the series on a high.
Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma were all left out, with Rohit Sharma back in the team and Suresh Raina and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in for the first time in the series. As expected, MS Dhoni’s retirement meant that Wriddhiman Saha returned to the side after playing in Adelaide.
Rahul’s inauspicious debut at the MCG was forgiven by the selectors and he is listed to open with M Vijay, with Rohit expected to come in at No.3 in place of Pujara. Raina is on the team sheet at No.6, nearly two and a half years after he last played Test cricket against New Zealand in Bangalore.
The return of Bhuvneshwar, who has battled an ankle injury on this trip, will be a boost for India as he should be able to make the most of any swing available, especially on an overcast first morning.
Australia had announced their XI on the eve of the match and there were no late changes, with Mitchell Starc in for Mitchell Johnson, who has a minor hamstring injury.
Australia 1 Chris Rogers, 2 David Warner, 3 Shane Watson, 4 Steven Smith (capt), 5 Shaun Marsh, 6 Joe Burns, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Ryan Harris, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Josh Hazlewood, 11 Nathan Lyon.
India 1 M Vijay, 2 KL Rahul, 3 Rohit Sharma, 4 Virat Kohli (capt), 5 Ajinkya Rahane, 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Umesh Yadav.
