It used to be gaali for men living in male dominated society to live a life on earning of lady of the house (especially the daughter).
has the scenario changed? If not what are the perceptions that the thought still prevail in our society?

Re: Aurat ki kamai
Nothing has changed....except for may be if he is disabled/sick or something...
Re: Aurat ki kamai
so what has kept this perception alive in our society? Why it is still a taboo for most of the people. People those who allow their daughters to work, hesitate in taking money from them unlike their sons (who if don't want to spent their money on parents are made to spent), but daughters are normally asked to save the money (from their earnings) for say dowry.
Re: Aurat ki kamai
Aurat ki Kamai… Bivi ki ya Beti ki… both are judged by different glasses in our society… first one is acceptable, while second is taboo… ![]()
Re: Aurat ki kamai
yes, i think it has changed to some extent. since more and more sons are becoming / turning into naa_laaiq sons or coming more and more into the clutches of their wives, the parents have fallen on daughters who are more sincere, caring and Khidmat guzaar. as far as husbands living off of wife's income is gaining acceptability in the society. the societal norms have progressed a lot recently.
i've seen men living off of women's income even in villages. i've seen unemployed men [always waiting for the top job!] with their wives working as teachers or doing the clerical jobs.
Re: Aurat ki kamai
Most of the Maasis got nikhattoo husbands
or they (maasis) portray it like that
Re: Aurat ki kamai
Kaam walian(Masian) are also example of working women... where earning is not taboo....wife working and husband sleeping....
Re: Aurat ki kamai
I think the problem is with middle class. In lower class, women were always involved in earning directly indirectly (even ladies in a farmer's house participated at different stages of crop). Upper class doesn't need it. Ladies from upper class work as timepass (most of the times). Its middle class, which is caught in this perception and still consider this as taboo.
Re: Aurat ki kamai
i think it's more with maasii culture...women do it for their needs...in middle class and upper middle class, they do it to maintain their higher standard of living.

probably you don;t know aate daal ke bhao...... Its more necessity now than ayyashi. Gone are the days, when one man used to earn and all others (tabbar) used to do ayyashi by doing nothing... abto jab sab kolhoo ke bail ki tarah apna aap jot'te nahin kaam nahin bunta
Re: Aurat ki kamai
May be this is one of the reasons that people avoid taking money from daughters fearing that they will demand equal behavior like with sons

Pehli baat it's not our demand to treat like sons we know it's our right to be treated just like them. Why the difference?

Are you saying, our society discriminate daughters?

I think luxuries remain far away from middle class, even if they allow their ladies to contribute their earnings. Normal household expenses have increases manifold due to inflation that a single man can't provide 2 waqt ki roti and pay for utility bills from his salary or income.

but girls knows there rights .. ager betey pitey hain tabhi koi achi baat nahi hai ..lekin baat yahan kamaney ki hai.. lekin islam mae hai ke aurat ko zarorat ke teht hi ghar se bahir nikalna chahiye... ager bohut zarorat hai tabhi wo kamaney jaye gi naa ..ya phir agey ka soch ker hi kaam kerney jateen hain bcuz zaroorat hai ..
lekin society me bura samjha jata hai ke larkiyaan kaam kerney jarahi hain .. ager koi shoq se bhi kerta hai tu is mae bura kya hai kuch ker tu rahi hai
