My mums friends son who is a month younger than me calls me Aunty just because Im aquainted with his mother.

I take it gracefully and not let it worry me. Doesnt make a difference in who I am and how I feel.

Aunty label is pure desi. Dont see no goras calling people they arent related to as unkils and aunties *I've taught my girls to refer to everyone by their names with respect. *

Yeah, but real aunties and uncles have special names, like phupo and khala and mamoon etc etc..

Um…i’d feel kinda weird if all my cousins n stuff keep calling htemselves phupo even though they’re not but at the same time, i have little cousins n thier big sisters say i’m just the cousin n not the sister.. :hinna:

So i want to know what qualifies a person to be called aunty. I’m 20 and married, no kids yet, but the other day we went to my parents house and there was another family there. and this girl kept calling me aunty . Now normally if she was a kid i wouldn’t mind but she was like 15 years old i feel old…

Its crazy:grumpy: why cant these girls think anything outside sacrificing themselves to a person for whole life SO EARLY !

Now why do you bother when someone calls you aunty…when you are already in the footstep of becoming a mother merely at 21-22.

What’s wrong with marrying at 20?And even if someone is a mother at that age does not make her an aunty unless the kid calling her aunty is her kid’s age.

Thats what i am trying to tell my kids and my wife and mom, this aunty/uncle thing seems so PAINDU.

But... calling desis their names is not easy either.

maybe not by age but by Looks you look like an aunty thats why the poor kid got confused
I dont mind when someone calls me aunty.. i think calling someone by rishta like ‘mami’, ‘phopho’, ‘khala’ or aunty waghaira waghaira sounds much more sweet instead of calling someone by name

I dislike that aunti factor as well, but sometimes kids are not taught to respect their elders. My family friend is a few years older than me, and her kids are 10 & 5. I think they are old enough to know NOT to call me by name, and I actually find it rude when they call me out by name, lack of manners. I would appreciate them calling me baji or anti, anything.
