Attractive people

Generally the perception is that if you are attractive by conventional standards (i.e., height, figure, dressing sense) people are friendlier to you, you get treated better in restaurants and stores etc… even in the job market, attractive people are much likelier to be hired than unattractive people…

What do you think?

Re: Attractive people

I believe attractive people are attractive by personality. I don't believe good looks are what really makes a person attracted to someone, though they may help build up the attraction.

Re: Attractive people

I’m not talking about relationships b/c its just much more than that… though I agree with you…but rather just daily interactions…

I know people who are good looking and have outgoing and friendly personalities…traits which are good for pretty much any job/field and just in life in general…

Quick google search brought up two articles on the link between weight/looks and the work field

http://blogcritics.org/culture/article/can-fat-people-get-jobs/

http://www.alternet.org/books/147225/beauty_bias:_how_your_looks_could_cost_you_your_job/

Read another article somewhere (forget where) that asked women if they deserve special treatment in restaurants/stores/bars etc simply for looking good…and they almost all said yes.

I just wonder if anyone here actually DOES get special treatment and do they feel its b/c of their looks (in situations where their talents cannot be judged).

Re: Attractive people

awwww, sara opened a thread on me .. blush

Re: Attractive people

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAA

Re: Attractive people

Yea its true that we are biased toward pretty people , but it does put more responsibility on their shoulders too . Means if they won't carry a personality to match their physical appearance then usually they suffer more :D

Re: Attractive people

Maybe that's true in PR, marketing type or client facing jobs. Even then, I think a better qualified person is usually the first choice.

If the competition is between two equally qualified people and one is better looking - perhaps they have an advantage.

If you mean by special treatment, you mean "people open doors for you" - that's just temporary. Fast forward 10 years and that won't happen.

Re: Attractive people

It does, I refer you to the elevator scene from Jim Carey’s Liar Liar… youtube it :hehe:

Re: Attractive people

In companies, they should keep women to hire female staff and Men for hiring male staff. prob solved :halo:

Re: Attractive people

I agree with NJ Sara.

Re: Attractive people

Yeh Sara, thats how it is.

Not necessarily, if it was the case, we wouldnt have ugly President(s) of United States. :@:

Re: Attractive people

SIGH That is why I was why I failed every in person interview....

This idea still may fail if the interviewer is a homo..

ALso, some women feel intimidated by women who are more attractive than them, so they may then be more inclined to hire the more unattractive woman so that they stay the purrtyest at the office

oh he is not at all ugly...he has such a decent personality and is attractive ..:@:

He got a fat nose and weird wrinkles.

So you would take a black guys over a desi guy wont you! :@:

dont say that you saw it coming :cb:

Re: Attractive people

first impression is always your looks only after that you open your mouth and get a chance to make amends and many times people dont get that 2nd chance !

Re: Attractive people

Smell, size, appearance and manners are the first things one notices.

The rest you pick up are vioce and grace.

But beauty is worthless if you cant make it last... skill is more important than looks in my world.

Re: Attractive people

by the way beauty (or attractiveness) can help you grab a job but cant help you keeping it unless off course you marry to the CEO ....
