   The first time I smoked is when I was 15. On my summer break, I went to Rawalpindi at my khala’s house. Was out there with couple of mohallay ke larkay, and tried a smoke. Did not care much, but four or so years later, when I started my engineering university, I became friends with couple of smokers. So basically, started it because of the company at age 19.
2. Cigarettes, cigars ?
   Cigarettes.
3. How many years did you smoke for ? [If not answered in the first question.]
   9 years
4. How much did you smoke everyday ?
   At the top of my smoking days, I say about 13 cigarettes a day (two packets in three days)
5. Why did you smoke ? Any link to stress in life or plain physical addiction ? Were other relatives around you smokers ?
   Started because of company, continued because of addiction. Maybe here and there, it also helped as a stress reliever, but that was not the reason.
6. What motivated you to quit ? Health concerns ? For the sake of children ? Pressure from loved ones ?
   Niksik and I had a love marriage. That was the condition she put forward. She asked me to quit before getting married, and i did. Had no choice
7. How many times did you try before completely giving up ?
   Zero times.
8. How did you manage to quit ? Did you go cold turkey finally or did you need other aids like nicotine patches, hypnosis etc to finally quit ?
   **I had a cigarette in my hand when talking to Niksik on the phone. She asked me to quit. I threw away the cigarette I was smoking and threw the box away. That was it. **

   Yes I did smoke an odd cigarette or a cigar here and there, mainly as a guy thing with my friends. Niks knew of every time I did. But it was never out of an urge. Frequency was maybe once a year.
10. Do you avoid hanging out with smokers ? How do you like to be around them when you have to.
    No I don’t avoid, but only one or two of my friends smoke and I dont get a chance to meet them that often, so my life is quite smoke free
11. How do you describe your experience ? How do you compare life as a smoker and now as an ex-smoker ?
    **It was fun when I used to smoke. I enjoyed experimenting with different cigarettes (cheap, expensive, hand rolled, flavored, non filtered, with cigarette holders). I enjoyed the times when I used to take cigarette breaks. Smokers are very social people in general.
    But I dont miss it now. I like my smoke free life. I can be around smokers, but I don’t like when I am around things that are smelling of smokes, like inside a smokers car or in a smoking allowed hotel rooms.

I believe that smokers are not addicted to cigarettes, but to the habit of smoking. It’s more of a psychological dependency than nicotine craving. It’s just a mindset, so quitting, or staying away is not as difficult as we make it to be.

I would like to know what YOU were smoking the other day, queer dear, when you hurled an obscene insult at me and then went on to accuse me of racism. You seemed to be suffering from impaired comprehension from influence of some substance.

You falsely accused me of racism and lied and projected on me things that I have not said. I don’t believe I have ever expressed racist views. I have never made an issue of the physical attributes of Indians vs. Pakistanis such as colour or stature. I have never called Indians dark monkeys, as you said. I would be very surprised to see that I ever did. I made it clear in the Karachi thread in Bollywood section that I didn’t like Indian film-makers portraying Pakistanis because of inaccurate speech/accents and generally negative portrayal of Pakistani characters. Not because of physical attributes such as colour or stature. You projected a comment from the article on me regarding gora-pann. I happen to think that there are as many ugly looking Pakistanis proportionally as there may be Indians. Similarly I think that there are as many ugly looking white folk as there may be black. How is that racist ? Besides, last time I checked, “Indian” is not a race.

Hope this clears the confusion a little bit.

BTW I really think you should wash your mouth out once in a while with soap.
