Attack puts Pakistan tour in more doubt - Waugh

http://sports.yahoo.com/m/sk/news/reuters/20020808/reu-australia.html

The recent attack has further diminshed the chances of Australia touring Pakistan later on this year. Pakistan cricket will be impacted adversely if this continues.

..and the tour stands cancelled.. http://www-ind.cricket.org/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2002/AUG/044208_ACB_09AUG2002.html

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/frown.gif

came across this while reading viewers’ reaction on BBC :-

*Australia were right to cancel the tour but I feel for Pakistan, it’s a shame that there can’t be any cricket there. The Indian government should now soften its stance and resume cricketing relations with Pakistan for the sake of the game and its follwers. Our government should allow the BCCI to accomodate and host Pakistan and share the profits with them. There can be no cricket without Pakistan.

*It’s not so much about the security concern, it’s the fighting spirit. Australians lack fighting spirit. The spirit of the game lies not only in playing a fighting game, but also maintaining a fighting spirit for playing it.

The antics of the idiots amongst us affect all facets of our lives, this is just one.

If we want to allow these zealots to cut us from rest of the world, then its okay, otherwise we should support and pressure to come down hard on the extremists.

sports is just one thing, tourism, business, everything gets impacted.

They know how many stumps Pindi Xpress will blow away once again so why not just pull out!

Don’t worry mates keep avoiding us till you meet us in WC final!

Good responses from our Pakistani brothers and sisters in UK.
All Asian countries have a right to not to travel to Australia but I know that will never happen as 2 of those 3 Asian countries refused to come to Pakistan of security fairs.
So that Asian boycott was to keep Pakistan disillusioned.

Munnay - If you remeber 1998 ATC it was paki team which chickened out to play against India

Why can't Paki team play Australia at a neutral venue. If they can they played WI then why can't they play against Aussies.

No it didnt, winning and losing matches does not mean they were chickening out.

If you can chicken out playing against us, we can make 100 such demands from the Aussies, and we can do whatever we want.

But deliberately awarding points to SL does mean chickening out.

I would rather chicken out to play against Bangladesh than India.
As Pakistan has a better chance of loosing to Bangladesh than India.

Pakis keep fooling themselves with the misplaced belief that so-and-so team is "scared" of their "great" team and so they refuse to play them.

I request my Paki friends to place themselves in the shoes of the Aussies or the NewZealanders and then ask themselves whether you would want to play in a country where there has been deadly attacks on foreigners recently and where some terrorist groups have made it very clearly known that they would target foreigners.

Remember foreigners dont look at Pakistan the same way a Pakistani would do. So news-stories about Pakistan may seem like a lot of hype to a Pakistani but Foreigner players (who have families just like you and me)are justified in not taking chances. They will not visit Pakistan just because Musharaff assures their safety. No one can guarantee security especially when 15 players are pitted against suicide-bombers in open stadiums.First Musharaff should guarantee security of his own citizens.

Finally I just want to say, what Imran Khan said - "Australian fears are genuine " .
Pakis should blame their own state of affairs rather than the Aussies.

No it doesnt, can you prove we deliberately lost points? We are ready to kick India 24/7, its just that you lack the guts to face us… You cant play cricket with us, but you can play hockey and boxing with us eh?

Awesome Pakistan win Asian Test final

DHAKA, March 15 (Kuldip Lal for AFP) - Wasim Akram’s Pakistan were crowned Asia’s best Test team on Monday after crushing Sri Lanka by an innings and 175 runs in a one-sided final here.
The injury-hit Sri Lankans, needing 364 to make Pakistan bat again, were shot out for 188 in their second innings at the stroke of tea on the fourth day.

umair, were you wearing a blue shirt in the double wicket tournament, cuz one guy in a blue shirt caught afridis sixer... Wondering if that was you since you said you caught one too!!!

Munnay - What you posted was the link to final. Here is the link :-
http://statserver.cricket.org/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/1999/MAR/000312_AFP_08MAR1999.html

From the same link :- ``Pakistan was well within their rights to chose their opponent in the final as per the flawed rules of the championship but they should not have done so,‘’ former Pakistan paceman Sikander Bakht said

*``Pakistanis did nothing wrong if they tried to choose their opponents in the final. If you have Zimbabwe and Australia as options you will definitely chose Zimbabwe and it is another thing if Zimbabwe creates an upset,‘’ Ramiz said. *
