Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
I'm going to sleep in five mintues so I can't do this right now but a simple way to solve this problem can be for the theists to present proof to the atheist for the existence of God.
Take this for an example.
We all hopefully know that the world is round. If someone were to deny the roundness of the earth we would present our proofs for the previous contention.
Simliary, we theists should provide the evidence to the athiest(a person who denies the existence of god) for the existence of god and should prove it to them through the use of undeniable logic.
I would help but I have to go to work(got a nice summer job for a 16 year old) tommorow and I'm sooooo tired right now.
p.s. As a sidenote, I tend to find that atheists are the most useless scum of the earth.
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
I'm sure many people have read this story before.
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed.
As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation.
They talked about so many things and various subjects.
When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist.
Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people?
Would there be abandoned children?
If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.
The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside." Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me. "Exactly!" affirmed the customer.
"That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help.

Here is one thing worth watching:
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
One of the fundamental laws of logic:
Absence of proof is not proof of absence.
Open up the history books, and you'd find what Muslims have contributed towards each and every useful discipline of life. Now if one would want to turn his face away from those facts, that thats a different story.
Your case is like that of a person whose locked away in a room, ignorant of whats happening outside the room, he begins to think the room is the world.
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
Maybe the idea of there being a God was developed so that a human being does not get overwhelmed when he looks at the world around him in all its enormity.
maybe the concept of God is like a cushion for such a person, in times of distress, loneliness, fear of the unknown. it may be convenient to believe there's a God, who is ultimately responsible for our deeds, destiny etc. "It was 'God's will' for such and such thing to happen/that made me do this" are oft heard remarks.
humility in a person makes him thank this God for anything good in his life, his own achivements. or like someone said, it may be done to stay on the safe side, it's like saying "touchwood."
since religion offers to a person a way in which they can lead an ideal life, the journey through it becomes easy, one does not have to hunt for answers to the questions which trouble them at times, supposedly their religion already has all of them, and they lap it up without questining it's authenticity or pausing to ask themselves if they are infact fully convinced by what they're being told.
it might've been felt that if not for the fear of God or a supreme power, there would be no distinguishing factor between humans and animals, no way to regulate a person's behaviour and make him lead the life of a 'good' person. maybe this is the root of why any religion was founded in the first place.
the atheist does not feel the need of having to turn to 'God' for all the answers he's looking for. the atheist may belive in enlightenment/finding himself through meditation, but he does not see this as a way of reaching God, rather a way of connecting with, trying to understand the meaning and purpose of the universe.

Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
How about logical contradictions in the idea of God? Can those 'prove' non-existence?
For example, can God create a stone so heavy that he cannot lift it?
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
From what I understand, these aren't flaws with the concept of God, but more indicative of the limitations of logic when applied to omnipotence.
They belong to a calss of problems known as 'paradoxes'.
Consider for example the following:
There exists a set of all sets.
This set contains the set of all sets that are not self-contained (it is, after all, the set of all sets).
The latter is problematic because such a set seems to be a member of itself ONLY if it is not a member of itself. (yikes!).
This calls into the question the existence of the universal set.
Yet, there are formulations of set theory in which this universal set does indeed exist.
Generally, when you have self-reference going on, things fall apart.
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
I have accepted God because of my faith, sorry I have no prove. this is not a new argument, so lets forget if something new will emerge out of this discussion.
Fairly speaking;Theism must be learned and accepted. If it is never learned, it cannot be accepted and man will remain implicitly atheistic.
For example, a person who has no knowledge of theistic belief does not believe in a God, nor does he deny the existence of such a Being. Denial presupposes something to deny, and one cannot deny the truth of theism without first knowing what theism is. Man is not born with innate knowledge of the supernatural; until he is introduced to this idea or thinks of it himself, he is unable to affirm or deny its truth or even to "suspend" his judgment.
Now as far as I am concerned this person poses a problem for the traditional classifications. He does not believe in a God, so he is not a theist. He does not reject the existence of a God, so, according to this meaning which is commonly attached to atheism, he is not an atheist. Nor does this person state that the existence of a supernatural being is unknown or unknowable, so he is not an agnostic.
From this point view I believe the burden lays with theists first of all to prove the existance of God. Then the athiests are required to give their prove.
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
Can an athiest explain why he exists? What is the purpose of his/her existence?
Can an athiest explain the miracles in Quran, which we use as evidence of Muhammad SAW as being a prophet and a testimony to Allah?
Belief in God comes from believing in the unseen. Belief in the unseen comes from the realization that not everything can be explained in physicality but only through reasoning. And yes the absence of proof is not the proof of absence. For instance the absence of heat in Antartica is not proof that heat does not exist. Humans can only perceive what they sense. God can be percevied through reasoning with the help of the things humans can sense. This world is big enough for evidence in my opinion.
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain

Both positions, atheistic and theistic, are symmetric. Where is this precedence relation introduced?
Re: ATHEISTS .... explain
In simple terms, Religions are good to control the masses, religions are there to put fear of consequences in people so that they can abide by the so called God's laws and don't do bad thing. In olden days and still people who are less educated and are more cavemen like will behave in extreme measures if the fear of God is removed from there life. If the God is almighty then why does he need your prayer to survive, does he have some sort of complex that he needs billions of people to pray to him and make him feel good. It simply to bring order to masses. Take Islam for example, it clearly states in many cases that you need witnesses to a crime or a tribute. How many people saw Mohammad receive Quran from Gabriel, how many people saw God write the ten commandments, how did bible came to existence, in all three books the stories are the same, there is no proof yet people with teaching from there leaders become religious. Why Govt.’s need religion? Simple this way they can use the laws written in some book to control the population and have peace, to believe that there is God is plane and simple wrong. We should all try to do good stop the hate and try to get along. As far as being an atheist, it’s a personal matter and should be left alone for the individuals to decide.
my 2 cents, now you can scold me.
Im not sure what you believe exactly, but if youre an atheist, it would be interesting to see where you're coming from, (assuming originally you were a muslim/theist).
Secondly, you state above why God has a complex that he needs our prayers to survive. with that statement, im not sure you do understand the concept of prayers. I dont think the reason why we pray is to keep God alive or feed to His ego. in reality, we need him more than he does us, hence the prayers are in essence, for selfish reasons. He can live without our prayers alright, but im not sure we can do the same.
I see good things happening to people who dont pray, heck, good things happen to people who dont even believe in God. He doesnt discriminate in that sense, not in this world anyhow; so how one can say God has a complex is beyond me.
The only difference between us and them, is those people are only working for this life, whereas people who believe in God often have a bigger picture in mind, a long term goal, hence the outlook on the two life is very different.
btw I do not buy the argument, 'Believe in god just to be on the safe side' either, as blind faith and is not accepted in Islam. Also, i think this thread would have been more useful had the original question stopped at 'why you do not believe in a God'. This way we wouldnt have been going back and forth with the useless 'burden of proof' issue and may have actually got somewhere in the discussion.

On the contrary, He does not need our prayers to survive but we humans do. He is God, the Everlasting . I suggest that you read the Asma Ul Husna to know more about the attributes of God.
