I went into NYC last weekend with family, heading to central park. Stopped at a lite waiting to cross and I looked around. THERE behind me in the window of sach’s 5th ave was the MOST astounding dress I’ve ever seen. Well, not the entire dress but the back of it from waist down. I am working on getting a photo but will try to describe it.
It was made of (prob) silk, very light floaty silk. There were tiers about 4 inches long, each tier going from waist on down to a smallish train. The top tier was a lightish tannish color trimmed with crystals and matching sequins in kind of sunbursts all along the hem of the tier. Each tier was a little bit darker, going from tan to coppery to brown to black until the bottom of the dress (the train, the final tier) was pure black with black crystals and sequins.
It was amazing, jaw-dropping, gorgeous. We took photos but since it was in the window, photos didnt do it justice so I called sachs to find out about it. It was made at Chanel in Paris, its one-of-a-kind and handmade. It is currently “on tour” so not for sale at this time but will at some point be offered for around $45,000!!! Since I expressed interest and didnt keel over when she told me the price (at least not that the sales person could see lol!), I am hopeful that they will send me a photo of it.
I’ve seen what the tailors can do over in Pak and I’m sure that they’d be able to make something like this at a fraction of that cost and in whatever colors you choose. It was AMAZING. If they send me a photo, I will post it here.
Im so curious!! hope they send u the pixx...usually they put stuff like this in Vogue---havent seen a pic of wht u r describing in the latest issue......
The snooty snobby snails girl was telling me that she thinks the gown is "Vintage Couture" which means that it could be an older gown, not one that was recently designed. I've been all over the net looking for a photo so I think she's right because I've seen all the recent collections and it isnt there.

The way you have described it..I'm imagining something amazing, and now am so curious as to see how it looks..please do post a pic whenever you get a chance even the pics you took!
The bottom of the dress is excuisite and dreamy - I would guess Nilofer Shahid could pull something like that off in a fraction of the price you qouted! :)
OMG!!! its drop dead gorgeous......is it a vintage chanel or a modern Karl Lagerfeld design??????? the soft pink is very typical of chanel, and the layers of chiffon is very 1920's flapper

how true! nilofer plays with the layers--I rememebr a guppian with a layered jewel tone lengha......and her Boucheron collection seemed inspired by Chanel......a more "avant garde" version of Chanel
The one that i posted pics of is a true vintage Chanel, designed and worked on by the lady herself, Coco Chanel. I actually called sachs and asked about it. The snooty "fashion consultant" who returned my call would tell me only that it was true Coco Chanel and that I could buy it for 45 thou and no, she could not send me a photo of it or give me more details about what fabrics and accesories were sewn on (other than they were done by hand). But I was able to google and find a photo of sach's August 08 window displays which included the dress! HA!!!
Anyway, I'm sure that there are any number of desi tailors who can copy this design at a fraction of the cost - and the added ability to choose the colors (but heck if i were a bride-to-be AND was very wealthy I just MIGHT go fer it lol!)
^ maybe you need to get re-married with your hubby? i am sure he can afford the dress ;)
:biggthumb
I REALLY like that idea lol! also the one about washing dishes while wearing it lol! alas, when i win the lottery, i will buy the dress for my younger yet-to-be-married relatives....dont want to swish the bleach around the floor with that lovely train yeah?
Funny, as soon as i posted the photos, I got 2 PMs on here from places offering to make it, please to call them and they will give me a quote....lol with a name like "mamaof3" they STILL think I'm looking for a wedding gown lol!! I just want to spread around some pics of the most amazing dress lol! For 45 thou, I could get a housekeeper for 2 years, sheesh.
