Don't think we can realistically keep up the washing with bottled water. Too cumbersome and wasteful. Decided instead to wash with regular stuff and then wipe with special disinfecting wipes that come for kids (probably good to keep them anyway while traveling, you can get them at the baby store), then rinse with bottled water.
Madam is congested with a light fever. Minor issues, hopefully.
Also, she's not eating regularly or much, it everyone said to let her be as long as she's not getting sick. Keeping fortified cereals and raisins/cranberries and healthy crackers on hand as needed.
Also, if I had our carseat, I'd be worried about it being stolen everytime we got out of he car. That and it being obvious we are American and visiting.
Hmmm we used car seat for Guriya for some time it never got stolen . Car seats are very very common here.
Hey sahar, I know it's different for kids as they will be a more sensitive but I think washing dishes normally is fine, even without disinfecting wipes. I have found that you only need to be careful about you eat and drink.
Does anyone know if they have pasta sauces/shapes and coco pops cereal in pakistan?
and also if we can take fresh cows milk that you get in carton's?
no fresh milk as it has germs even if u boil it, its too heavy for our kids. my girl got sick due to drinking it, otherwise she was alright all the time.
carton milk is not for drinking I think only for chai..
we are taking powered milk her from my 2 older ones, its called aptamil junior.
I do think u get pasta and cereal from there but I took my own pasta from here and well the kid didnt eat much of it as u can get maggie noodles from there, the instant ones.
Yes.. you just have to know where to go. The first thing my khala does when they land is go food shopping where they have western brands and also good quality local stuff. I can’t remember which brands but for biscuits, crisps etc there are some good local brands.
You can get kellogs and nestle cereals, just they are a little more exp. You can also get stuff like nutella. The nestle milk in cartons is fine for cereals.
I would never know when I would get to go shopping, so I’d always take one box of cereal.
Pasta… again, there are good quality local brands. My MIL would make a pasta dish like once a week and you can get different varieties. Plain, they do taste a bit diff but by the time you have mixed stuff in them, they taste fine. They also have spicy instant noodles… those were okay as a snack.
There is also Makro in Lahore and Karachi. This is the supermarket my khala goes to as her first stop. I’ve never been but apparently they have everything - they do in the UK anyway.
Local to where you’re staying there may also be places where you can get western brands. I’d be in Multan and I’d find stuff.
Also… those that live in Pakistan know better but I liked Rahat bakery (probably coz that was the only decent bakery in Multan last time I was there). But they have bread that isn’t sweet and their chicken pastries were really nice… I was buying them all the time as snack food.
And there is a pizza company called ‘Pizza Track’ - we’d get take away pizza from them, it’s so much better than Pizza Hut (imo). I know there is one in Multan, one in Hyderabad and one in Karachi.

Please do give me some tricks too, i have been to pakistan before when my eldest was 10 months old 7 years ago :bummer:
This time i have my 3 monsters with me - well 4 including my hubz :cb: so i’m a lttle worried about what milk to give my 17 month old
he is on fresh cows milk here in uk - can i give him powder milk? if so which one is suitable for his age?
We are not 100% sure if we going yet but if we do we are going to mirpur, where are you going?
Brilliant! im taking some pasta for sure! what about sauces? can we take them?
Thankyou stoppit for all this info, i know we have a few big shops in mirpur where they sell western brand food
but not sure if we could get things like warbourton’s bread, i never liked the sweet bread and dont think my kids will too :bummer:
I hope they have bakeries like you mentioned where i could get normal bread and yaaaayy for nutella my kids love it
my older 2 are on fresh milk too but now will have to try the powder infant milk here and take it along. I am taking the ones for older kids. But in pakistan I have heard of Nido, is good. You might want to try that out too or take something along.
For sauces, u can make ur own, its easy, all u need is some vegetable and fresh cream. We will be in isloo/pindi so lots of options there for us.
No... you won't get western branded bread for obvious reasons. But if you can check the bakeries (not sure if there will be a Rahat one there), you can see if their bread is not sweet. Usually brown/wholemeal is unsweetened. You can get things like Mcvities biscuits.. I'd have plain ones with tea for brekkie sometimes.
If your flight comes into somewhere like ISB, LHR, KHI, I'd advise going shopping before going on.
If you're going with kids and you have lots of extra luggage allowance with your tickets then it might be worth taking some boxes of their fav cereals and some jars of whatever (if they are packed properly!).
But also try to embrace the local food! We were eating a lot more fruit coz it has a lot more flavour there.
Thanks everyone for your help, i think im going to take a few things from here and we usually land at islamabad airport
and always stop somewhere and get something to eat so will get some shopping done too :)
Girls, I am leaving in 2 days and I have loads of stuff plus we can only take one bag of 30 kgs... so I wont be able to take milk along from uk..my son drinks whole cows milk here...can you guys help me out with what to use in Karachi?
