I think it's Renegade or Paragon. I'm going Paragon the first time round (Female Shepard, Infiltrator), then Renegade second time round (Male Shepard, Soldier).
I normally find that Bioware's storylines are optimised for the "good guy" experience, then cool to play as the "bad guy" as a what-if.
KOTOR was a good example. When I played as a Light Jedi, the final boss fight was a hard, desperate battle just like the climax of a Star Wars movie. When I played as a dark jedi.... the final battle consisted of Malak easily getting whipped by my character.
Well, in both my tries at KOTOR, I never found the final boss to be difficult. I'm also playing the Paragon now. I haven't got very far yet. The battle system seems to be a lot different from KOTOR. What class is your character? Mine's a soldier.

I'm playing as infiltrator class, which I'm regretting since Tech abilities seem rather useless. Then again, the only shielded enemies I faced so far was a close-quarters firefight, so didn't really get an effective chance to use the abilities.
On the other hand, the fact that Infiltrators can quickly be trained on sniper rifles seems to be useful at times.
The squad I'm using has Sgt Williams, the human soldier as an Assault Rifle expert, and the human Sentinal leiutenant (can't remember his name). He's half tech and half biotic, but I'm developing his talent points mainly in biotic skills. His Lift power is great for taking enemies out of the fight for a few seconds while you pummel them.
I'm not using any of the aliens. I hate the way the Krogan looks (ridiculously big body with tiny gun by comparison) and the others I don't need, since my character has tech skills and Sgt Williams brings combat power.

Williams? Is that the girl you meet on Eden Prime? The half tech/biotic guy, that's Kaidan, right? Right now my current squad is made up of Garrus and Tali. One thing I really like about the game is that every one gains experience/levels whether they're with the active squad or not. I think I missed one of the characters though, not sure which one. If you look at the squad screen (where you assemble your squad), it's the third character from the left. Any idea who that is and how you're supposed to recruit them?

You're missing the Asari scientist. You recruit her in the Artemis Tau cluster.
I finished the game and it was freaking amazing. Now I'm replaying as a the default soldier Commander Shepard, playing as an alien-hating Renegade. I plan to have my squad consisting of him, Tali, and the Asari scientist. I'm trying to unlock the two achievements "Qaurian Ally" and "Asari Ally", for playing through the majority of the game with them. Also, am playing on Hardcore difficulty for that achhievement and to unlock Insane difficulty.
You sure?! I was so sure It is an rpg, adventure. More like Prince of Persia and Tom Clancy or/and Hitman.
Hmmm…I would have bought an Xbox 360 just for this Title, but you are discouraging me.

Awesome. So I haven't missed/lost anyone. Also, do you know if it is possible to save your squad member at the begining of the game?
As for me, I like playing the good guys, so I'm going with the Paragon here. Even in KOTOR I never played most of the game on the dark side. I just went to the dark side at the end to see the different ending.

Actually now that I'm playing second time round as Renegade, I find that the renegade path is not really "bad guy". The renegade is not evil, he/she just gets results (a good outcome) through whatever means get it the quickest.
A good example of a renegade is the classic "cop-off-the-leash" character like Mel Gibson's guy in the Lethal Weapon series.
If someone has an important item that can help defeat a geth attack, the Paragon will use logic and reason to persuade the person that handing it over to help the fight is best. The renegade will pull out his gun and scare the person into handing it over; but wouldn't actually kill them.

Right, they said the same thing on ign in their previews/review. They said that the Renegade is not going to take over the world or anything, he'll do the same thing as the Paragon but using his own means.
Right now I'm trying to get out of the ExoGeni HQ but that vehicle (can't remember the name) is no fun to drive, unlike the Warthog or Scorpion. Either that, or I just suck at driving it.
I played a bit last night, the game just got very interesting and has picked up some pace so its all good
We dont have Mass effect out in Australia atm :(
When does it come out in Australia?
Before Mass Effect came along, I was getting 360 RPG fix with Blue Dragon. I'll get back to that one either when I beat Mass Effect or maybe when I progress a bit more through it. Other than that, I also hope to get Eternal Sonata, Phantasy Star Universe (plus the new expansion) and Oblivion eventually, and definitely Fable 2 when that comes out.

Oh man, I hate Japanese RPGs. The turn-based combat kills the sense of immersion. People don't fight by neatly forming a line and stepping forawrd one at a time!
Oblivion is the second-best RPG I've played. It's combat actually tops Mass Effect by giving you a total sense of immersion. The involvement you get from actually having to lift your shield up (with one hand, using the left trigger) to absorb a blow, then lowering it (left hand action again) and striking out with your other hand (right hand trigger) is so cool.
But the plot and character interaction is not as immersive as in Mass Effect.... you feel less emotionally connected to your character and thus the story.

Heh. Well I love Japanese RPGs. That's the reason I got a PS2 last gen. The turn based combat doesn't bother me at all, in fact I actually love it. I like turn based battles because it gives you the chance to think out your strategy.
I haven't played Oblivion yet. I couldn't get through Morrowind on the original XBox. I guess it was more open ended than what I was used to. I wasn't really able to get into it. However, I do intend to try Oblivion at some point.
Japanese RPGs have some realtime elements in the combat system. I've seen some in Eternal Sonata and Final Fantasy X-2. The older Final Fantasy games allow you to make it so that you have to wait for your meter to charge but can't stand for long to figure out your next move.

I never played Morrowind, but Oblivion apparently fixed the open ended problem by always making it clear where the next plot objective is. However, mindless wandering is still rewarded with dungeons and subquests.
I now need to decide what comes next for my Xbox gaming. There's no major release that I'm looking forward to. Maybe Tom Clancy's End War; but more likely I'll be playing lots of Halo 3 multiplayer when I'm done with Mass Effect; after which I may swing to COD 4 for its multiplayer.

For me, after Mass Effect I'll try to finish Blue Dragon. Then there's a small backlog of released games I'd finally like to get.
I've found XBox Live Arcade games to be a lot of fun. You can pick one up for even 10-15 minutes. They're fun whether you only have a few minutes to play or you can enjoy them for hours.

How is that? I downloaded the demo. I tried it for a few minutes, but didn't have the time to learn the game. Carcassone is a lot of fun. Other than that, I've downloaded TMNT Arcade, Contra, Streets of Rage. I have the Geometry Wars demo. I haven't bothered to unlock the full version yet, since I can hardly make it to the end of the 10 minute demo.

Catan turns out to be my favourite Live Arcade game. It needs a little bit more thinking than Carcasonne I find (which I also downloaded, but I prefer Catan).
Bomberman live is a great party game if you have friends who are into it,
I did get the full verson of Geometry Wars. From time to time I get tempted to maybe buy Prince of Persia.
PuzzleQuest is also tempting me; but I'm not getting it because early next summer I might buy a PSP when I start commuting, and I imagine getting puzzlequest for PST instead.
