aspartame?

What is the verdict on artificial sweeteners like aspartame in sugar free products? Are they safe?

I heard some scary stories about em, especially scary for men.

Re: aspartame?

Abey band kardey cheeni :bailan: , pehley hi terey jaisay logon ki waja se 40 Rs kilo hogai hai :aj:every sweetner is scary :(there is no natural sweetner apart from fruits and sugarcane, go for brown sugar

Re: aspartame?

I use a sweetner as wel.. I quit using sugar a couple of weeks back. plz don't tell me that sweetners are harmful.

Re: aspartame?

artifidcial meetha is bad , but I still use equal for my chai (VERY RARELY-3 times a month :))

Re: aspartame?

ravage, last i checked excessive use of aspartame was linked to all sorts of defects. but so are a lot of daily consumables. i use one sweetnlow in coffee everyday. occasionally with chai. dont think that counts as excessive.

Re: aspartame?

i heard a doctor talk about it on tv....he was saying that it causes cancer in rats, but humans are not vulnerable to it cause they dont have the same genes as rats

Re: aspartame?

^that would invalidate a lot of research then.

The chemical is owned by Monsanto the same company that showed tampered research about a hormone given to cows to make them give more milk. A hormone they had the FDA approve because they're so influential. Its banned in Canada and europe but americans drink milk containing rbh or whatever even though its known to be a carcinogen. This is the same company that made Agent Orange by the way, so you know the ethics they would have.

Re: aspartame?

all sweetners are bad but some are worse than others…i "heard: stevia is the better ones and between aspartame and saccharin…saccharin is less dangerous (although it also causes cancer)
and yes the FDA stinks.

Re: aspartame?

Try getting used to sugarless tea/coffee and u’ll never go back. A few years ago my mum was diagnosed with diabetes. Out of fear my sister and I stopped taking sweetened bevarages with her too. All it took was a month or so to get used to it. Now if I ever happen to take a sip of sweetened tea/coffee my reaction is as bad as it was when i’d drink unsweetened tea in the past. I can;t ever go back.

As for aspartame it was discussed a while ago in another thread. Here’s the link

Re: aspartame?

^ same here. We all went cold turkey when it comes to sugar in chai and we cut down all sorts of other drinks too, including soft drinks. Too bad we couldn't do the same with mithai.

Re: aspartame?

eerrrrr I HATE you ravage

Re: aspartame?

I would avoid them totally.

Re: aspartame?

I would never eat anything that contained any kind of artificial sweetners. It is better to eat the real thing in less amount than eat that horrible tasting stuff.....YUCK

Re: aspartame?

well Searle got it approved while Dumbsfailed was their CEO so I don’t smell nothing fishy :halo:

Re: aspartame?

^yea.. I really got alarmed when I read that Monsanto (of which Searle is now a part of) owns the patents to it. Even if they know their product is unsafe I dont trust them to accept it, rather I expect them to try and prove the opposite, given their track record.

hm... good stuff folks. thanks. While I was in Amreeka I remember coca cola (or pepsi) had switched to Splenda (Sucralose) as the sweetener instead of Aspartame which doesnt have any harmful effects discovered so far.

Cant find that here.

Codey coca cola wali dant mat pilana ab, Pakistan mein to waisay bhi jali wali hoti hai

Re: aspartame?

splenda? please. dont even get me started on splenda. i was taking it two years ago and i would be nauseated all day and my heart would start beating really fast for no reason (while sitting, walking, working etc)..it also gave me stomach aches. first i thought it was the coffee...then i read all these testimonials from people who suffered the same...i quit splenda and the aches went away.

Re: aspartame?

I don't think there is any scientiific proof that sacaharin or aspartame can cause cancer among humans...their concern was based on bladder cancer which was caused in rats that were given aspartame and saccharin, there are disagreements among doctors whether it is safe or not

Re: aspartame?

desidudecool why take the risk then..
