Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

Case against Asif is very weak though cz of no much good evidence and he can be proved innocent in this court chance are high

Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt are set to appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, to appeal against the ICC’s ban for spot-fixing. Asif* will have his case presented by his lawyer Ravi Sukul through teleconference today and tomorrow, but he will appear before the court on February 7. Butt will be accompanied by his solicitor Yasin Patel when he appears before the court on February 8.
Both Asif and Butt have served approximately two-and-a-half years of their seven and ten-years bans respectively (with the possibility of a suspended sentence after five years).
Mohammad Amir, the third player to be sanctioned, has decided not to appeal against the five-year ban against him. The ban doesn’t permit the players to take part in any official match, international, domestic or club, until at least September 2015.
Apart from being sanctioned by the ICC, the trio was also found guilty by Southwark Crown Court in November 2011, on charges of conspiracy to cheat and accept corrupt payments over deliberate no-balls. After being implicated, Butt served seven months of his 30-month jail sentence, Asif six months of a year-long term, while Amir spent three months in a young offenders’ institute.
Asif was released from Canterbury Prison in south-east England after completing half of his one-year sentence in May 2012 while in June, Butt was released from prison seven months into his 30 month sentence.
Butt since his release has been pressing for his innocence and asserted that he didn’t fix or influence any of the bowlers to bowl a no-ball. “I have no links with spot-fixing nor I have ever entertained any offer, nothing ever practically happened in a match that was linked to any offer,” he told reporters on his return to Pakistan last year. "Of spot-fixing or any fixing, I never asked anyone to do anything or bowl any no-balls, I am not associated with it.
Butt, 28, had also hinted to lodge an appeal with the International Criminal Court, but decided against it due to the expense involved and the lengthy duration of the proceedings.

  • February 5, 2013 11.30am This story incorrectly said that Mohammad Asif was already in Switzerland. He is set to reach there on February 6. The length of the players’ bans has also been corrected.

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

hmmmmmmmmmmmm...I really don't like these two...I just want Amir to start playing again...

If they win this case, then ICC should let Amir play as well..he is wasting his time :(

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

Amir is not contesting in this court only Butt and :sunnyboy: are

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

^yes, I read that....but ICC should look into it on their own.

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

They wont unless he appeals again so there is only once chance he can come back in 2015 now

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

^then maybe PCB should appeal on his behalf, seriously, such a talent should not be wasted :hinna:

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

PCB doesnt have enough guts ......They didnt helped anyone of the trio in anything and they wont

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

We should open a FB page in support of Amir, to bring him back :D

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

Wasn’t Amir banned for 3 years? :konfused:

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

Salman Butt the jawari sold his country and than did not show any remorse. I hope they uphold the ban and infact ban him for life.

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

and asif?
case against him is weak based on jurisprudential evidence

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

Aamir is the main guy we want back not these two and he isnt even appealing :smack:

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

I know i'm gonna get a lot of FLAK for this

BUT

For all the sympathyies for Amir i don't think he is as innocent/bechara Ma'soom as he is portraited

He confessed and got his punishment + Ban

Why not wish Asif come back as well after he served his Ban when anxiously waiting for Amir to come back after his Ban ????

Butt never had the class for an International Level Cricketer like the 2 guys above

Now start shooting at me :D

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

I only have a little bit sympathy for Amir even though im sure he is not doodh ka dhula

But for that Jawari and Charsi I have no sympathy but have to say Charsi was a great bowler

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

Uncle Salman Butt's father owns a Bookie shop here in Lahore tells us more about his family background

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

To all above:

Asif = Top notch bowler who was also intelligent in selecting deliveries for each batsmen, however his cleverness was also evil and proved his undoing. He already got a lot of chances in the past due to his talent as a bowler.

Butt = Above Average international opener, however, Pakistan has produced much better players of this category. His moral values proved to be his undoing.

Aamir = a prodigy and most likely next worlds best swing left arm fast. Weak morals and age resulted in his getting mixed up with the bookies. He deserves another chance since he is the "ONLY" one out of the three who accepted his sins. After repenting and serving his due, the call of justice would be to let him have another chance.

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

aap koi wazeefa parain aamir kay layaee...i am sure you know a lot of them

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

If Asif was playing right now he would have given Steyn a tough competition for the No1 spot

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

I liked Asif too, but he was turning into Shoaib Akhtar :D. Atleast Aamir admitted his mistake while Asif and Salman still claim innocence, so you can support Asif if you think he is innocent :)

Re: Asif, Butt set to contest ban at CAS

The only reason these two don't deserve any thing but a life ban is because they still claim they are innocent. Aamir understands what he did was wrong and he is paying for it. I hope Aamir is able to make a comeback after his ban expires in a couple of years.
