Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

Saw the movie yesterday...All the shows were sold out for the last three days.....The movie is well made.....better than what I had expected..My expectations were that it would be like a boring history class but whatever ppl say masala or facts, the movie was fairly interesting....Some scence reminded me of of english movies and were directed very well as per Bollywood or even Hollywood standards....
The battle scenes......reminded me of Troy
The Aish sword training scene slightly reminded me of the croaching and flying dragon movie minus the flying to make it look realistic.
The sword fighting scenes between Hrithk and Aish reminded me of the movie Hero with Orange curtains floating in the courtyard..
Acting wise...I'd say there is nobody else who would have suited better for the role of Akbar the great....Aish acted better than average....Overall Nice and strictly one time watch movie.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

We saw it yesterday. It was packed and most of the showtimes for this weekend were sold out because it's a holiday weekend in USA.

I enjoyed the movie on the big screen because of the cinematography, sets, etc. It's a historic movie, so don't expect any twists in the story. It has all old ingredients of a story, but is told in a new way. Character development is great, of both Akbar and Jodha, though Jodha's was more pronounced. There was a lot of emphasis on her keeping her Hindu traditions after marriage and show her to be very devout. In Akbar's character there was more emphasis on him becoming an ideal emperor and less on the religious aspect of his life.

Hrithik was extremely well suited for the role, he does his job well. Great dialogue delivery, very well-controlled emotions. It was refreshing to see him play this role.

Aishwariya looked great as usual, however her role/acting was redundant. She's had the same look in other movies like Devdaas, Umrao Jaan and played similar role of a delicate yet strong female lead. She was more aishwariya than Jodha. Beautiful costumes, for both Hrithik and Aishwariya.

Overall a very well made film. I'd give it 8/10. Main flaws are it's music and length.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

No i gave you these sources so that you wouldnt get offended and bring religion/ nationality in this argument because these are indian sites; while my opinion is just because of what i have known about both these people etc. This is not a Fictional made up story like Lagaan where the director used the old times and showed it as a reality and put whatever he wanted to...this is real and part of the history hence he should have showed the reality! you enjoyed the movie because a lot of the points which werent appreciated by a lot of people of the rajput princess were justified! While the truth is that Jodhaa Bai seemed to be a chaalak paki player who played her cards well! I wouldnt count her as a good woman but a good player of politics even in those days. If the director said he wanted to concentrate then he shouldn't have put even a little bit of politics that he did and which wasn't needed (again my opinion). The only love bit i saw was Akbar playing a pupet in Jodhas hands and the songs (which i loved by the way). The movie had no soul in my opinion..it was is if it was just scripted...there weren't any relevant points on which Jodha fell for Akbar - i dont think cutting taxes for hindu pilgrims is a reason for her to fall in love with the guy :S so that just means she was totally playing a game and used the guy for her own religious interests. Her character seemed more indulged in making things right for her own people by just marrying him and wooing her husband so that means she never loved him! i didnt feel anything as love, soul and passion which you think was there. It was a bollywood movie i know, so are you saying that they are not good at making a reality depicting bollywood movie as yet? they are far from showing the whole truth without any bais, and put elements that would awaken the religious side of people and then make the movie sucessful?
No i am not a History Student i have nothing to do with history or even politics, i am an engineering student.
Khair, i have nothing else to say - you enjoyed the movie good for you..while i want my money back!!
end of conversation :) from my end i mean.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

Good Movie

Liked the battle shots

Loved the way the cannon ball booms through the cannon and gives us a areal view (innovative thinking)

some songs were totally unnecessary

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar’s - Jodhaa Akbar

seen it on sunday 10:25 PM show after standing in da Queue 4 n hr
+ves:
Hrithik’s hotness :hayaa: (the only reason 2 watch da movie in the 1st place)

Technical strengths: large scale/sets(esp the wars scenes) /wardrobe/jewellary/sound/editing/acting

a nice song

My forefathers were a result of a similar union of a mughal n rajput so i was fasinated by most of the rituals/costumes/surroundings/cuisine ( I hv actually eaten all the dishes aish made in the movie :yummy: )

Justifies y mughals lost their glorified era, havin such lavish life styles and indulging in activities that dun hv any thing to do with running a country

now the -ves:
No story, I mean there was not a single focus point. Even if ashotaush says it’s a Love story, i didn’t found much of dat either in it. Akbar had so much in his life which cud hv made the movie more interesting

So So dialogues which cud hv been wayyyyyyy better na like mughl-e-azam or pakeeza ( come on na when does a shehenshah says “Kya Margya? dubara phaink dau” ) ppl were actually laughing even on serious dialogues

The length of the movie just kills it, even hrithik is not hot enuf 2 b seen 4 so long, esp the last part, it seems the movie is being dragged zabardasti

I m still trying 2 figure how can children’s eyes change frm basic black 2 colored after growing up (both 4 hrithik n aish) they didn’t had contacts those days

n 1 thing dat really agitated me was the mentioning of sending the rebellious 2 makkah 4 punishment on haj, makkah nayi hua kala pani haugaya

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

Khwaja Mere Khwaja

New York Times Review

They may not make ’em like they used to in Hollywood, but sometimes in India they still do. “Jodhaa Akbar,” a historical romance directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, is filmmaking on the grand scale of Cecil B. DeMille, with romance, stirring battles, a cast of thousands and enough elephants and gold to sink the Titanic.

With so much attention focused on Islamic extremism, now seems an apt time for a movie about Akbar, the 16th-century Muslim emperor in India, whose legacy is one of enlightened rule and almost radical religious tolerance. “Jodhaa Akbar” begins before all that, when the young Akbar is still busy expanding the Mughal empire. This gives Mr. Gowariker a chance for some cinematic derring-do — in one spectacular shot the camera rushes back to avoid being trampled by two armies — and to show the seeds of what made Akbar one of history’s good guys. He fights with purpose (to consolidate Hindustan) but not without mercy.

The battles, though, are really a windup to the love story that propels the film. Forging a political alliance, Akbar marries Jodhaa, a Rajput princess (a Hindu), and then sets out to win her heart. These royals are played by Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, two rather astonishing specimens of human beauty. Neither is a great actor, but both know what’s required of a star and seem to the palace born.

Ms. Bachchan makes Jodhaa’s willfulness a sign of character, especially when she lays down the conditions for her marriage: She will remain a Hindu and would like a small temple for her Krishna statue in the Mughal fort. As Akbar, the green-eyed Mr. Roshan, a charter member of the Bollywood six-pack-abs club, has the bearing of a king, yet can seem a little blank when not in motion, fighting enemies or stripped to the waist taming wild elephants (just a hobby).

At — fair warning — three and a half hours, the film is too long. The court intrigues and counterintrigues can seem rote, and Akbar remains a bit of a cipher. Still, even the dramatically slack parts will probably hold your attention. Mr. Gowariker and his cinematographer, Kiiran Deohans, fill their frames with beautiful palaces and scenery, and the film bounces along to a memorable score by A. R. Rahman. (I’m still humming the songs.)

Mr. Gowariker’s “Lagaan” (2001), a classic root-for-the-underdog story, was one of the rare Bollywood movies to attract a non-South-Asian audience. “Jodhaa” may lack that film’s populist appeal but it shares its sense of national purpose and could just as easily have borne its subtitle: “Once Upon a Time in India.”

“Jodhaa Akbar” is not a history lesson: where, for example, are Akbar’s 199 other wives, or the painters and poets who made his court a fabled one? But in choosing to tell the tale of this emperor and a Muslim-Hindu love story, Mr. Gowariker makes a clear point. As Akbar says, “Respect for each other’s religion will enrich Hindustan.”

In Houston 'Jodhaa Akbar is released in main stream theater. AMC theater in Dunvale for first time.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

nothing like this has ever been done in bollywood, simply brilliant. loved everything, esp. the attention to detail.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

I watched it:D
I liked it! and I thought hritik was really good in the movie and ash did justice to her role. although special effects in parts of the film looked really faked- that could have been better.

What really made the film was the backgrounds, the palaces and clothes- most the time I was just looking at those, lol!:D It was a little slow at times and left out loads of historical points- but I guess the message was muslims and hindu's joint and all that:) which came across clearly enough.

Music wasnt all that great, some songs were catchy but were more slow than fast and background music was pretty good with a catchy theme tune :D

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

2.5/5 for me.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar

This was a pretty well made movie.
I'm not really a fan of Hrithik, but wow, I really loved him in this movie. He performed real well. The hindi/urdu dialogue thing going on in the movie was great....Jhodha speaking Hindi while Akbar conversing in Urdu (which he did an amazing job at compared to the other cast members!). Ash was alright. She really didn't impress me with her acting.

Re: Ashutosh Gowarikar's - Jodhaa Akbar
