I didn't know the Old Testament was revealed South of Iraq..
**I just found this verse of Old Testament while browsing thru a website:
"For there will be a slaughter for the Lord God of hosts in the land of the north by the river Euphrates."
Jeremiah 46:10**

So this verse has nothing to do with "the army of Pharoah Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon..." as mentioned a few verses earlier in Jeremiah 46:2?

hmmm, interesting.
"For there will be a slaughter for the Lord God of hosts in the land of the north by the river Euphrates."
Key word for me there is WILL as it shows that the verse is refering to an event that is to happen in the future.

This entire passage, Jeremiah 46:1-12, is the retelling of a prophecy delivered to Jeremiah prior to an engagement between Pharoah Neco and Nebuchadnezzar. Of course the prophecy itself is worded in the future tense, but it is here being recounted after the events have already taken place. The "slaughter" mentioned in verse 46:10, a reference to the defeat of the Egyptians, in fact took place in "the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah" (v.2).
The prophecy is also specific to Egypt, as the first two verses clearly state: "This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah... concerning Egypt."
What we have here is a series of prophecies conveyed to Jeremiah about various nations and peoples - Egypt, Babylon, the Philistines etc. - which we see listed not in chronological order but grouped nation by nation.
Based on an impartial reading, as someone who read this stuff for the first time, I'd go with Iqbal's position that this related to the period prior to Old Testament and has nothing to do with events of Karbala, unless the reader is an avid fan of Nostradamus and is able to find anything out of anything. And I'll chalk it up as similar to attempts by some to read Allah's name in the moon and in a baingan.
Then again, maybe we have not been presented by enough evidence, or a convincing one for that matter, by the other side to show it actually related to the events of Karbala and Hazrat Imam Hussain (Razi Allah Tallah).
I really look forward to any mention of events of Karbala in the Quran, but am not sure what it will prove anyway.
Jeremiah 46:2
"Concerning Egypt: This is the message against the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:"
Then it starts talking about battle, in which one of the verses is Jeremiah 46:10, which you quoted. As you see, this has nothing to do with the present day. It's meant for people living thousands of years ago.
You can read the whole chapter if you want. It has nothing to do with anything happening today.
Why do you have to try? Martyrdom of Hazrat Hussein RA is written in history books, is known to all muslims, and some non-Muslims. I don't know what you really wanted to achieve by this "try".
