Ashes 2009

Re: Ashes 2009

imagine if Pakistan was playing instead of England. The situation would have been as follows:

Qadir would have issued a statement regarding how the match was fixed

Sarfraz would have given proof of math fixing to the press.

Public would have been asking for the sacking of PCB chief

The senate would have set up a committee for investigating the debacle

a few players houses would have been stoned

Guppies on GS would have noticed how the team is riddled with factions and how their body language was negative

In this hoo haa no one would have acutally given any credit to the brilliant performance of the Aussies.

All this because we can never lose a match, it has to be a conspiracy. :D

Apologies to all.

True but I w'd not blame the entire Senate. It was ex-Senator Anwar Beg who seemed very fond of treating PCB chairmen like nobody. He should realise that PCB chairman is an important person and not his personal chaprasi jo baat baat par Senate mein haazri dey

But notice how quiet he has been of late despite Pakistan's below-par displays on this tour...why? because his party PPP is in government...

Re: Ashes 2009

**But since its an English team … I think Osama is behind all this :hmmm:
**

Australia level series 1-1 with crushing win over England in 4th test

Australia won by an innings and 80 runs

England 102 & 263
Australia 445

Marcus North who made 110 won the Man-of-the-Match award

The series now moves to The Oval in London for the decider on August 20

Ian Bell is likely to get the sack for The Oval test after dismal displays with the bat in successive Ashes tests

England's selector, Geoff Miller has ruled out the possibility of a comeback for Marcus Trescothick

Three names are being touted as a likely replacement for Bell

1- Robert Key 30 (Kent)
2- Mark Ramprakash 40 (Middlesex)
3- Jonathan Trott 28 (Warwickshire)

So who do you think it is going to be?

My own feeling is that it w'd make zilch difference and Australia will beat England to take the series 2-1. Ponting and everyone seems very pumped up for revenge. Mind you Australia already got their revenge (for 2005 Ashes loss 2-1) in 2006 winning 5-0 but this Ashes (away) victory w'd be even sweeter

Re: Ashes 2009

England won the toss and elected to bat in the last cruical match at the Oval.

Cook gone for 10

Eng 12/1

England *241/5 *

Ian Bell 72, Strauss 55
Siddle 3/53

It is funny how while all the attention was focussed on who w'd replace Bell in the Oval test - most English cricket columnists seemed dead certain that Bell w'd be dropped after dismal displays with the bat, even I got duped by it - they decided to drop Ravi Bopara who it has to be said has not done much with the bat either throughout the series to justify his no. 3 position. Centuries against Windies are all well and good but he failed when it really mattered.

Re: Ashes 2009

England 303-8 After being 105-1 o something like this

Eng for sure have squandred a good oportunity to win this series

let's c how aussies fare tomorrow once the tail is wiped off

Good toss to win !

Seems England might almost have an edge @ the end of the first day. They might get 350 if they are lucky. If Aus do as well as they did @ Headingley they would get 445 which is a lead of <100. The way the pitch is turning on day 1, you can add 150 to any target in the 4th innings.

England 332 all out
Australia 48/0 (19 overs) - slow but steady

Australia will look to score 500. That w'd almost seal the series

Pak umpires have stood in 4 of the 5 Ashes tests

Aleem Dar - 1st (Cardiff) and 3rd (Edgbaston, Birmingham) test match
Asad Rauf - 4th (Headingley, Leeds) and 5th (The Oval) test match

500 seems unlikely now with Ponting gone bowled by Broad for just 8

The game is evenly poised at the moment

Australia 85/2

Make it 89/3 Broad claiming all the wickets

Broad to Hussey, OUT, got him! Broad's got three! Hussey again not showing good judgement of his off stump as Broad cuts this back nastily and raps him in front. Gone!
*MEK Hussey lbw b Broad 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00 *

Can England win from here

hmm...

What's going on here? 94/4

Sheesh, this has been a breathless spell by Broad and England here. 4 for 8 in 21 deliveries

Broad to Clarke, OUT, he's got him! Broad's got four! Clarke went for a drive, feeling for it, and Trott took a very sharp chance at short extra cover, diving forward. Tremendous cricket from England!
*MJ Clarke c Trott b Broad 3 (7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 42.85 *

Australia in dire straits now. What an incredible slump! Australia were 73/0 at one stage

109/6

(cricinfo)
What an incredible looking scorecard it is now, Australia have just lost 36 for 6 in, oh, about 90 minutes. Here's Johnson and the pressure is phenomenal!

Swann to Katich, OUT, Swann gets Katich! Oh, the follow-on looms now! Katich got an inside edge onto the top flap of his pad and it's bobbed up to short leg, who takes a simple catch and Rauf raises the finger
*SM Katich c Cook b Swann 50 (107b 7x4 0x6) SR: 46.72 *

111/7

Broad gets 5 !

Amazing stuff from Broad. Its just the tail now :)

Re: Ashes 2009

125/7

make it 131/8

England can surely win this test now

Well, well, well Australia 160 all out (from 73 for none)

England lead by 172 runs after first innings

Re: Ashes 2009

^ 10 wickuts in 87 runs :hmmm:
