Why would GEO close it down themselves? Do you have ANY idea how much money will they lose by just closing it down? They had already suffered un-recoverable financial losses and by closing it like this what would they gain? Think outside the box
You mentioned the code of conduct thing. CNN, BBC etc all follow a policy. Indian channels do that too. Tahalka tv unearthed some more than embarrassing secrets of then active indian ministers but no one closed it down.

Media won their independence and they were not given freedom, so they can do whatever they like. Tin-pot dictator stopped an independent media, how it is possible that it can happen when they won their independence and no one gave them independence? Surprising, how it is possible.

i think they are shutting down because they are unable to generate enough revenue now that their prime market is no longer available. Although they would like to claim shahadat at the hand of the dictator.

no one is thinking about the ppl who work for this such immense network.. i am sure there must be around 5000 ppl directly related to GEO network, and i dont know how many are indirectly related to it....
how will these guys search for new jobs and the immense losses that are related to this decision.

Geo TV network being closed (Posted at 2325)
KARACHI: There are reports that the government of Pakistan is using its influence with a foreign country to get the Geo TV network closed down.
It should be noted that Geo news and its entire sister channels had been closed down across Pakistan after the imposition of emergency.
Earlier, the cable operators in Pakistan were forced to close all channels being operated by Geo Network and the Pakistani viewers were deprived of the great source of information. However, the Geo TV was on air from its Dubai office.
The latest developments are that the government of Pakistan has gone to the limit of seeking the closure of Geo News network across the globe through a country.
After this closure of Geo Network, the worldwide viewers would not be able to watch the great source of information worldwide.

More specifically it is "Dr" Shahid Masood ranting on about Pak govt having had Geo closed down, and we all know that he is the channel's main problem, like an albatross round their necks.
Geo is broadcasting to it's global viwers from Dubai, UAE. So he is really insinuating that the Pak Govt pressured an oil-rich Gulf state to get Geo closed down completely. If that is so, then why does Geo not move it's HQ to London or Washington who have been lecturing the Pak Govt about allowing these channels back on air? I don't see why they cannot do that, especially if they want to continue to provide a service to it's large viewership in Europe and North America?
Or is Shahid Masood saying that the so-called Pakistani dictator Musharraf, whom we are told is on his last legs, has so huge influence that he can tell the most richest and powerful states in the world to do as he commands?
