RAWALPINDI: In an unprecedented move, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif dismissed 12 military officers over corruption on Thursday, military sources said.
Five brigadiers, three colonels and one major general are among those dismissed by the Army chief, DawnNews reported.
The development comes two days after the COAS said “across the board accountability is necessary for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan”, adding that the war against terror cannot be won unless “the menace of corruption is uprooted”.
Gen Raheel said “Pakistan’s Armed Forces will fully support every meaningful effort in that direction which would ensure a better future for our next generations.”
Security analyst Talat Masood said the Army chief has “set an example for politicians to follow”.
An editorial in Dawn today says:
“Accountability per se is not a political issue, but then the national conversation at the moment is about the excesses of elected leaders. Perhaps a better way to interject itself into that conversation would have been for the military to start the so-called across-the-board accountability process itself.
Surely in offering the military to greater financial scrutiny, a positive example would be set that politicians would be under legitimate pressure to follow.
Yet, where the military errs, the political class inflicts damage on itself — and the wider cause of democracy.”

May be these officers were not from well off families hence to maintain similar life style of ther peers becharee forced to do corruption other wise , I learnt from some very well English speaking ppl that in army people come from well off family back gorund hence they dont need to do any corruption.

It is a good move indeed, but not good enough though, what abot the real corruption, like Rs 16 BILLION scam by Kiyani's brother? By Gen Mushy, from where he got his billions??? That would be real precedent.

Don't get desperate for sake of Sharif brothers and PMLN. I know you are really hurt and feeling the pressure.
You know very well that retired army officers if involved in corruption in civilian domain are responsibility of your NAB, FIA, SC, FBR etc etc. Even Kiyani's brothers case is with NAB, not military.
Why don't you have a little whine about incompetent civilian institutions that neither go for corrupt politicians, generals or bureaucrats?

Exactly. I wondered who would be PMLN's equivalent of serving ISI officer, Lt General, Major General, and all important IGFC Balochistan? I reckon likes of Saad Rafiq, Rana Sanaullah, Ahson Iqbal, Khawaja Asif?
Let's see if NS kicks them out on corruption charges, if he doesn't have the guts to touch his sons, brother and daughter.

Now in Lahore, the city i live in, son Raja Aziz Bhatti (Nishan e Haider) in partnership with Aleem Khan is occupying lands of farmers.. The unfortunates have been victim of curse called DHA...any land adjacent to it and thereon should be bought by them and if you try to do something, cantonment boards won't take any notice..
In Sialkot, Malik Riaz's relatives were forcing people to sell their agriculture land thanks Allah all mighty, NS govt came and Chaudhary Nisar made Malik Riaz dissappear from Punjab...heard same is being done in Karachi by Malik Riaz and dawn did a story on it...but that doesn't got any attention from media...aakhir ko bahria say ads bhi tu laynay hain

You want govt to do something.. Zardari Govt fully backed Malik Riaz in his land scam in exchange they received lavish palace in Bahria Town lahore.. i guess it was in 2011 or 2012... so yeah Malik Riaz has full support back then...
Then come this govt... least they did was stop the expansion of these schemes even under brand name of Citi.. at least this is what i saw in Gujranwala.. Jehlum is out of my domain... seldom go there as i have no business there..
Apart from above, Govt persuaded the cases against Bahria in Pindi and got them bannish from their as well... that is the time when Bahria entered Karachi market.. i don't believe Zulfiqar Mirza...he says that the Bahria Scam is of 600+ Billion... even if 10% of what his stated value is true... it is still a huge amount... and you know you are key officers of Bahria Town... kins/sons or retd Generals themselves... don't believe me then go to Bahria corporate office to witness it... in last tenure, the Chairman NAB was ex admiral of Navy, his daughter was working for Bahria at some high level post and the admiral was the same who let Malik Riaz use the name BAHRIA during his admiralship... and he was recommended to Chairman's NAB position by Malik Riaz and Zardari got him appointed... and got acquitted from NAB by the then chairman...
Not that i am saying that politicians are clean and innocents.. but i am not going to believe that Army is comprised of Angels and nothing wrong is there... OKARA is living example...
And when it comes to do against anything against criminals like Mushy... HE fell ILL and get full support from GHQ and even then if the political GOVT doesn't bow.. they get some FINGER LOVING NUT and put him in D-Chowk... and i am firm believer that the worst democracy ( which is in Pakistan at the moment) is better than the Military rule...
You want end or atleast minimize Corruption...end this DHA.. it is root of the corruption diseases... I was one of those who fought with Ayesha Siddique on her Book "Military Inc" but i guess she was not that wrong after all..

Not just feudals, but the so called business community aka the biggest tax chors in the country who are also the most loyal voters of PMLN.
Once the Sharifs go, a lot of corrupt people in Punjab will lose their political patronage provided by these oligarchs. Who likes to get rid of their ‘connections’ in Pakistan?
Sharif’s didn’t sacrifice their random and insignificant MNA for Kasur Child sex scandal, and Patwaris think that they will get rid of equivalent of Lt Generals from their ranks to claim a lost moral ground.

And i guess, people of Pakistan have not forgotten Gen Zameer's NAB... who was unleashed on "Corrupt" politicians and once those "Corrupt" Politicians joined Q-League, they were provided with certificate of Innocence and Pakeezgee...
So would say, get 16 Billion back, get Mushy back and Do it with Malik Riaz... then only i would say the real EHTESAAB has started if none of these then... it is all topi drama... and if anyone thinks it is NAB's job and military.. then only can laugh on them as they have no idea what happens on ground...
