PCG,
As long as fashion is promoted on the same level as is extremism and that so freely in this country. People like DP, HSY and AA will reign over Pak's fashion world. While people like Mushy,Altaf and Mullah's will reign over Pakistan. And yet one will NOT question the other.
Lets not pick on individual fashion designers. I've heard HSY talk and he's quite the patriot and doesn't think Pakistanis in general are "trash".
DP is pretty patriotic too despite being hindu.
Who is AA? Amir Adnan? He's a down to earth kind of guy.
I'm not really talking about specific fashion designers. But the type of people who are rich and all they're concerned about is their materialism. That doesn't mean all rich people. Many wealthy people in Pakistan are very good people and do a lot for the country.
Knockout, We have seen the extent of your intelect... ^
Someone who is caught between supporting terrorsits and trying to appear balanced..
Fact is that your ill informed, confused ,and you do a fools job of disguising your lack of understanding as something insightful... Pretty pathetic...
I said I am sad. Save you comment for some other time.
Plus being **intolerant doesn't make me extremists. But pcg/pak/kehkashan etc
are leftist extremist.
I tell you simple test.
Tell me one good thing about the people you hate most??
I can tell you tons of good things about people I have problem with.
Could you-pak or any extremist do that???**

Yaar, its definately not about kind hearted, patriotic or down to earth guys. THey all might be what you have stated. But I wish for once to see these people take up a stance on the present situation on radio, tv, media. I haven't seen any of 'em denounce the emergency. Why?! I know about these ppl (Yes. AA is Amir Adnan, who is definately backed by Mushy (and vice versa), since he is his favourite. Actually mine too.)
What I want to say is: These guys have huge influence on peoples mind and can make them wear almost anything. In every season a new style is being introduced and people buy that. Why not make those people believe we need you (the nation) to stand up against the opression of Army rule. Kyun?! Too much of an effort?
If they can hold up against the biggies, radicalism will fall short in this country. That I promise.
That's because most of them like Musharraf. Why would they oppose him. Its under his regime that media has opened up, and they've gotten a chance to showcase their talent. No way in hell would shows like LSA have ever happened before and actually have been televised on a Pakistani channel. PTV would never have allowed these designers to showcase their talent, because many designs show skin. Remember PTV's occasional dupatta rules?
FYI: A group of top designers recently donated their items to a charity sale, where the items were sold for cheap prices for the awam, and the money went to charity. Also, fashion shows are often held for charity events, at which these guys participate actively.
Fashion designers are not politicians. That's not their job. Yes, they can speak out a bit more about things, but I don't really think the average Pakistani on the street even recognizes them when they come on television. A girl in Pakistan might not recognize Kami Rokni, but she can sure recognize a Karma pattern when she sees one. You get Kamiar Rokni speaking about politics on TV and everyone will say - who the heck is that?

Ok, but how does that fit into the scene? Here we have a dictator, fashion designers support him. What's next?! Mullah's wearing newest collection of Maria B.?
Designers stand for freedom of speech, freedom expression, freedom of mankind, freedom of press. Which is not given at this very moment in Pak. So either they need to change their ideology or quit their business.
Nevertheless, BBs regime will not endanger freedom of speech, expression and press. Not so sure about any other leader taking her place.

Um, during this marital law/emergency period, no, you're right. There is no freedom of speech, expression or press. But in case you didn't notice, Pakistani media has grown tremendously, and there literally are no censorship rules. People openly discuss sexuality, politics, and religion on television talk shows. Have you seen the recent LSA awards and what women were wearing?? These designers have all the outlets possible to showcase their talent in Pakistan, hence why they're mum.

Again, let's not talk about the past. Let's discuss on future. One month of emergency can make everything of 7 years work nishta. Of what Pakistan has achieved so far. This Martial Law is a threat to Economy, Education, Mindset, Liberty, Freedom, Human Values, Free Media, future Democracy, etc. all positive aspects basically. And we (the nation) need to respond on peaceful ways how to not grant such dangerous liaisons with foreign powers.
I agree its the wrong technique, but I do think CJ and the judges needed to be taken out for judicial corruption.
Our people scream and complain about corruption, but when someone does something to lower the corruption, they call their savior a corrupt person. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.
I think he's lost it though - the media needed some regulation, not to be shut down. The concept of protesting in Pakistan needed regulation, not clamp down.
I disagree with anyone that says the media, judiciary, political parties, and activists (ex. rich wife NGO's) aren't all corrupt. There is corruption, but clamping down on these industries just makes the corruption worse in the end.
Regulation is key, not banning.
Its the same concept with everything else. Madrassas: You don't need to shut down every madrassa. You need to regulate them. Mosques: you don't need to shut them down , you need to regulate them.
But then when the government is also corrupt, the regulation can be problematic and filled with corruption too.
Bottom line: Pakistanis in general - from panwallah to side walk mullah to ammi sitting at home with 10 kids to top notch brasses all need a danda.
