Are you brand conscious?

Nopes.. Not at all!! If i find a good deal on something designer then i might get it but usually i just go for whatever seems like a good bargain!

Re: Are you brand conscious?

yup. to an extent. quality conscious. doesn't mean im into excessive spending. u gotta know how to shop.

i dont like buying cheap looking shoes or bags. or bad makeup.

same way i like my hair washed and not oily.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

yes. Most of the times.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

Nop. I've got a number of things from Ghosh, max factor , rimmel which I think are just as good as the higher end ones. But the thing with me is that I hardly ever wear makeup ( only weddings , parties ) so purchasing expensive makeup feels like a waste of money. I've had a new dior mascara go cloggy , felt upset throwing it away lol so now i just buy the basics from superdrug

Re: Are you brand conscious?

Not really. When it comes to shoes I like buying things on the higher end just because most of my shoes are classics that I can wear for a long time, so I want them to last a long time.

BUT I never buy anything retail. I always buy expensive stuff at really good deals. I do not believe in buying anything retail :snooty:

As for clothes, if I see quality, I dont mind paying the money. But I wll definitely not spend money on something thats just pretty and designer.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I am 'should look good' conscious.

Brand just for the sake of brand is not important for me although I stick to few brands due to some other reasons for example Asics running shoes (for comfort), Levis Jeans (for its fitting), Dockers Khakis (again for fitting reasons) and obsession by CK (because I like it). Other things like shirts, Ts, dress shoes, active wear, watch, sun glasses etc etc, I dont mind buying whatever suits me and is durable.

PS: and I wait for right time and right deal to buy stuff.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I am brand conscious for most of my makeup unfortunately. However, I did find a lipstick from Sleek that I like a lot ( really cheap).

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I've always used MAC powder and still use it. I use MAC's bases and many other things. Some of MAC's stuff is just WOW...like their paint pots. But their shadows...you can easily find dupes that are JUST as pigmented for half the cost. In fact, the NYX shadow kit I bought a few weeks ago works SOOOO well if you use Painterly under it. So why not?

And no, I don't think its becoming cool to knock MAC. I just don't think chasing brands because everyone else is, is smart. I like shopping wisely. Spend money where you need to but don't spend it because the box says MAC. No, you're not compromising on quality or being cheap either. I work in an industry where people put pretty labels on things and inflate the cost by almost 1000% because the industry knows people will pay. And that's why I think a thousand times before spending $16 on one single eye shadow. I don't really care how its presented...I care about what's in the jar.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

Being brand conscious regarding clothing and make-up are two entirely different things. Most people are able to buy Dior, Chanel, Guerlain, Tom Ford etc. if they want to since the most expensive blush/foundation would be 60-70 bucks at most. However Dior, Chanel, Armani clothing is a whole different story and not many people can afford it!

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I don't know. I haven't found any that work the same for less cost or have that extra dimension in their colour.

Brand chasing is pretty sad. I don't know anyone like that offline though. And if I did, I doubt they would be after mid range products like MAC.

Personally I do think when it comes to makeup quality is compromised (not the case for skincare). The higher end products nearly always work better in my own experience. Take for example mascaras.. drug store ones can work great (using one at the mo) but I've not come across any that also have the intensity of blackness that you'd get when you can spend £20-£25 on a mascara.

But I'm not saying people can't look great or pull off great looks with less expensive stuff. They definitely can. I have quite a light hand when it comes to doing my makeup so I like very pigmented products - even if I use a little they show up.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

When it comes to eye shadows, I've noticed the cheaper brands do have a lot of fall out so I tend to stay away from them, even UD shadows have quite a bit of fall out. Best shadows In my opinion by far are MAC and NARS. Experimenting with illamasqua atm and their products seem pretty good too.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

See, it's the same here. A lot of raving about brands is stuff that I see online A LOT, but with people I know personally, they aren't that bothered about buying 'high-end' brands, they just tend to want something that works and then they stick with it. Maybe it's just the people I know though.

I'm definitely not a brand snob at all. I like shopping in drugstores for makeup! I'm not into the whole spend all my monies on a eyeliner or something like lipstick because that sounds really stupid tbh. The only things where I do care are things that I want to last me a long time like coats or bags although if i do find a nice bag cheap ill buy it. But 'brands' are different for everyone here. I'm not talking about Chanel etc I'm talking about MAC and Nars and things like that because those are what I personally call higher end brands.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

See, it depends on who you are and what your uses are. If I find a great product, I won't pass it up because it costs less. I will buy more because it costs less.

Brand conscious but not a brand slave. Conscious in the sense that there are brands whose clothes styling I like, or the fit, or the material etc. so if I am looking for a particular item, that brand would be most likely on the top of my list. Same goes for shoes.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

^ talking about shoes, our father would only buy us BATA shoes - they cost more, but would last. Not because our treasure chest overflowed, but he is conscious of quality.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

not brand conscious for clothes n shoes but very much for handbags...i dont wear makeup except for eyeliner(sometimes)and a lipgloss n i do buy branded one...

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I do agree that when shopping for clothes or shoes...the brand can make an impact. In clothes and shoes, its hard not to because they get so much love...you need something that will look nice and last.

In the case of cosmetics, I think to a certain extent being brand conscious is good but after that...you need to think for yourself. Dior foundation costs more than Cover FX...does that mean its better? I've tried it...and the answer is no. :( The quality of a product should go beyond how its presented IMO.

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I am very brand conscious, sometimes I am able to put a stop to it other times I can't, I am working on myself in regards to what 'matters' more in my life as suppose to what others see me wearing. It is a learning process, and I have come a long way, after having kids I did go and spent a lot on baby items, but as they are growing up, I really don't want them ending up like me, it is really stressful on top of it you end up in this never ending race and still not feel satisfied, I don't know when will I completely stop but I have to for the sake of my kids and their college fund
like what I have struggled with is not just shoes/makeup/clothes, it has also been bedsheets and furniture even cookware, (t-fal is just as good as le creuset) It took a lot in me to walk away from a vera wang dinnerware set a few months ago but I survived, I even laughed at myself for wanting to buy it....ughh

Re: Are you brand conscious?

I tend to buy things I like regardless of brand..

Recently got a Collection 2000 lippy that I love as my MAC and Dior ones.. same with clothes and bags.. there are always nice things around on the high street.. I've always mixed and matched..
