Are you bored by Islam?

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

I find that British born Muslims are more religious, even if they are non-practicing they are still very proud of their religion, even if they sinful they don't condemn their religion just coz they can't follow it...

Religion is considered something cool by British Muslims on the whole (I know there's exceptions).

On the contrary I find American born and Pakistani born Muslims to not always be so proud of their Muslim identity.. Not always but from my experiences.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

Well to answer your question NO.

But it does blow my mind away on many different levels.
I am hooked for life. :phati:

Namaste to you too

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

What i see a deterring factor from Islam is parents forcing Islam on kids and not practicing themselves, I have seen many cases where a husband and wife are fine with being liberal and open minded but all of a sudden when their kids grow a lil they realise OMG we need to carry Islam forward into our future generations and they then impose Islam on those kids who find it not appealing, if a kid grows up in an environment where everyone in the house does things in moderation and pray 5 times a day the kid is natural to grow inclined towards it however aap khud kuch naa karein lekin want your kid to be a pakka muslim is unfair.

Aap Islam ko follow karein baaqi khud hee will fall in its place, as someone said its a way of life either you do it or you dont there is no half half.

Allah hum sab ko hidaayat dey, Aameen :k:

Quite a generalization - and one which US/Canadian Muslims would take exception with.

First of all, there are Muslims with differing levels of practice, i.e. both the devout and the lapsed, no matter where you go, including so called Muslim countries.

I can't speak for UK Muslims, but here on our side of the pond, the general acceptance and accomodation we have to practice and show pride in Islam is very generous. Truth be told, there are no greater defenders of equality than US/Canadian democratic systems which allows Muslims here to freely practice their faith and turn to political/judicial intervention to secure those rights.

It may be that we're more comfortable in our Muslim identity within the greater society that we live in, so that our identity as a Muslim is connected to our practice, without needing to broadcast it. Announcing that I am Muslim doesn't make me a good Muslim - my deeds/aamaal make me a good Muslim - and the judge of my deed is Allah, not others.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

I totally feel that way. Every time I see some burqa-clad woman or a long-bearded mullah who has zero wordly education, and can only spout out scoldings about people's clothings or why a gathering isn't gender segregated, it does put me off. It doesn't put me off about Islam. It puts me off about our community in general, and doesn't encourage me to attend religious gatherings of any sort.

I basically don't go to religious gatherings if I can help it. I prefer to do Pakistani-cultural related activities instead. Like if there is a chand raat party or something, I'll go. But I sure as heck am not going to spend my Friday night at a halaqa. And not because I don't like Islam or don't want to learn about it. I just don't want to spend 3 hours listening to some burqa wali who hasn't been outside of her home much telling me how to live my life, when I can interpret the Quran perfectly well on my own.

And there really is no place in Islam for clerics demanding our personal time. We don't worship the clerics. We are supposed to worship God. Spend your time reading a namaaz, instead of going to a dars to make some bloody religious fashion statement. Because its not that ridiculous burqa wali telling you about how girls sin these days by showing their arms when they wear t-shirts who is going to determine if you're going to heaven or hell. It will be God. So, spend that time worshipping God.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

So let’s say a clean shave muslim gentleman having a high post in a big corporation said xyz is haram in Islam, you would believe him but not the long bearded mullah at the masjid who said the same thing at jummah khutbah? :hmmm:

Actually the opposite. I believe the Mullah over the clean shaven muslim. If the clean shaven muslim is an ABCD or a BBCD etc their view of Islam is most times skewed to make their unislamic actions acceptible.

Kinda like New York and the jamaat where men and women prayed together. Great publicity stunt but most of them wouldn’t know how to read a proper namaz anyway.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

problem is mullahs dont preach islam any more. they preach hate, they preach how their sect is better than others, they preach they are right and rest of the lot is wrong, they preach how every one is working against them without realizing our own faults.

these mullahs were not even in favor of pakistan, many of them were with congress. these mullahs didnt let us study what new knowledge english brought along with them.

islam does not put me off but the contradiction of what we say and do.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

Why do you even care what Mullah x,y.z has to say to you and why do you let his burqa clad wife leave a deep impact in your life... you just follow the basic Islam and its five pillars, that is all.. I think Mullah is just an excuse, you were already itching to go against Islam...

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

Mc12IT, you know what, today I am agreeing with you…like for the first time ever , just kidding, but you are right. See if I am looking for a way out, I will find it. It’s always easy to blame others for our state, no?

OK sure, masjids could make such a big difference by hiring educated mullahs that can relate to everyone in the community, offer interactive workshops, websites, newsletters, camps, etc to keep the youth engaged. But, I think the need to participate or the desire to follow a certain path is nurtured at home.

We as parents need to get involved with our children in this particular direction like we do in their schools and sports and art classes. We need to make them love their religion.

OK, enough.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

nasirahmed, that was very funny.

And about the thread, I am not just bored but sick & tired of all the fake jahil muslims who claim to know all about islam. they base their claim of being 'islamic' on the very intolerant, unflexible, extremist nature they have adopted to as per the mafia's liking. the same mentality as w.bush of "you are either with us or against us." All the people trying to adopt a moderate, flexible, normal & peaceful way of living can just die. I am sick of that kind of mentality of both sides. whether islam or no islam.

this :k:

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

there is one more problem in Pakistan but i have not noticed it here.

You cannot question. If you do, you are looked down upon and judged. Even if the question is valid. we are supposed to agree with everything they say. Some of them if they are not able to answer the question or are unable to explain it properly would get angry at the person who asked the question and say "islam main behas ki ijazat nahy hai". whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ? how are you gonna convince a non-muslim.
One problem is we dont practice islam, we just learn and we just preach but we dont practice it. Islam is a way of life and what is the point of learning that way of life if you are not gonna adopt it.
We say that islam is religion of peace and tolerance but i dont see any. I see we muslims are very hypocrites. not that islam teaches us to be but we current generation are trying board two boats at a time.

No i am not bored cuz ma religion is not ma past time

:omg:
Point to ponder. :hmmm:
What about a mullah who has worldly education and has professional qualification who is into teaching and preaching Islam too.
Dr. Zakir Niak , Dr. Israr Ahmed. Dr. Farhat Hashmi etc.
If you go to http://www.aswatalislam.net you can find many many khutabas by mullahs who have modern education and relate to modern day issues and problems and explain Islam in modern terms. Yes they do not use songs and dance or rap music to explain Islam.

Re: Are you bored by Islam?

Faith is not a matter of boredom. People have faith for different reasons, peace, serenity, order, justice, blind faith, or just because...

The reason I turned away from religion is simply because I started questioning, and religion cannot possibly answer all the questions I have and neither can Science (not yet anyway). My faith over the years weakened because it fails to satisfy my inquiries. It's all make believe to me... There are too many reasons why I don't believe in any organized religion. It's wrong to pass judgements about people who have apostated from their religion. It's not as simple as you think! I have put my heart and soul in trying to find faith...I can't find it..I just can't!

I am still looking for it...

thats the problem...........

its like a man who stops visiting doctor ans start self medication for its heart problem by googling and u can expect him to do operation of his heart by himself.......... what a stupid approch.

the rational way is to find the best doctor if u r not satisfied with the current one.

newayz u can expect such kind of things from confused desi's.

by the way have u ever gone to school / college/ university or u have studied all at home by urself. i m talking about professional education.

after reading ur thread and views about islam i feel that u r from venus and i m from the mars.
always full of exaggeration and contrary to the reality. every bearded is not an alim deen. one day u will say a sikh is also a mullah.

dont expect that u will find mufti and darul afta in Los Vegas. u will have to come to the seat of learning as we go to western countries for professional education. come to Karachi and i will show how competent alims we have got here who know not only about deen but also about the worldly affairs.
