are you afraid of travelling alone?

Say like on public transport, or especially when flying abroad?

Im not afraid of flying or train rides themselves but HATE travelling alone. Dno why.

I think perhaps its cos i enjoy company of others, or …? i dno what it is

I actually quite enjoy travelling on my own ... be it on flights, trains or automobiles.

Mere ammi buhaat pershaan hooti theen but I always enjoyed it. Abb tu zamana guzar gaya akele travel karte hoye.

But now I have another problem: I worry for my daughter :D

Travelling alone is fun. What i find exciting is travelling alone with no prep at all. Say you gonna go to Paris. Take teh flight or train and then figure it all as you go along. Sleep on the streets if you cant find a place.

Not afraid as such. I find it boring to travel alone. The only thing I am afraid of is getting stuck next to someone annoying or boring and it always happens. Only once did I get seated next to an interesting, lively lady. All other times its been a bore. I would always prefer to have good/fun company with me.

Femme, it can't be worse than getting stuck to smelly desi men who reek of curry. I once got stuck to three men sitting together who all smelled. By the time I reached my destination, I was positive that I stank as well.

:hehe:

I was once on a flight from Karachi to islo and the plane had to go via Quetta. My sister and I were 2 out of 3 women onboard. The rest of the passengers were these creepy sort of guys with ugly moustaches and a weird look on their faces. That is one flight I would never have wanted to be alone on, ugh!

Femme, that is exactly what just happened to me going to Karachi. Our flight stopped in Bahrain for 3 hours. Me and my mother were literally the only women on the flight. The rest were creepy dudes on their way to Pakistan. They kept staring .... getting up from the seat in front of us ... turning around and staring, etc. I ended up taking my jacket and just putting it over my head. My mother found it all funny and said, "this is nothing! just wait till you get to Pakistan". :D

:hehe:

I quite enjoy traveling alone because you don’t have to worry about putting up pretenses. Also, you’re not bound by other people’s decisions when traveling to a new destination, etc. and at the same time, you enjoy the trip that much more in your own company.

:flower1:

On the contrary, I love travelling alone!

I wouldn't travel alone in Pakistan though :-/

SP why do you feel compelled to put up pretenses in company?

i wud love to travel alone.. but my over protective parents wudnt let me

travelling alone was good stuff. well w/o some people.

i guess im the anomaly then.

I get chances to travel alone all the time.
Last year himmat kii thi. Went to pakistan all alone, then even while in pak went all around pak on plane alone. Rahim yar khan, karachi, islamabad, lahore. Was real boring, plus i had a temperature so it wasnt easy. Airport staff in pak are horrible, and jst airline staff in general , i hate em.

Then on the way back i went to dubai, stayed there for a night,....on my own again :( i really missed having some company.

This year, going to dubai alone, but alhamdulillah got a friend to stay with for 2 weeks. then mamoo wants me to fly to pak from there for few days to say 'hello', but cos i hate travelling alone so much, i dnt wanna go.

and the worst thing is, i bet as soon as i get people who wanna travel with me, or get married or something , i'll have no money to travel or no time. that'l be soooo sad if it happens :(

I used to be afraid...but 3 years ago I started traveling by myself in the states. Then, last year I traveled by myself for the first time to Pakistan thru Thailand...it was so much fun and things went well. I had to be careful and smart but otherwise there was no problem. Honestly, other than some leery arab guys on the flight from bangkok to karachi, most of the men I came across were incredibley polite, helful and chivalrous, eyes down caste, helping me with suitcases and standing to give me a seat.

Traveling alone is intersting because it allows you to do what you want when you want...it's fun..though I'd say I still felt safer traveling with my husband in morocco/spain because I could then risk goign places I might have avoided by myself.

hmm....amelie.

last year when i was coming back from pak, i had a temperature and i was real weak. I couldnt carry my own suitcase properly.

This auntie saw this young, tall strapping load, and decided to ask me to carry all her stuff too, u cant imagine how hard it was. Then ontop of that she couldnt find her boarding card, and the airline staff said i had nicked it. it was unbelievable.
Pakistan was a horrid affair, trying flying into a remote village when ur used to living in UK thats surrounded by technology even in the countryside and hilltops. not nice

Have to admit some parts can be fun, getting to do what u want. thinking time is nice. not having to put up with others wants etc.

it'd be nice to share a flight with someone u know but to different end destinations eg. u go with ur mate to pakistan or something , and then he shovels off to his own house and u to urs. something like that would be a good balance i think

:k: Interesting thread, Eemo.

For me it totally depends upon whom your travelling companion is. If it’s going to be someone who’s over protective and over cautious about everything, then it’s FAR better to go travelling alone. You meet more interesting people, i’ve found, if you’re by yourself. You get to do what YOU want to do and you are not beholden to anyone else’s schedule or preferences… i guess it would kinda get lonely too, but that can be part of the ‘fun’ too if you balance it out.

Travelling alone for pleasure or for work? could be 2 diff things.

I dont mind travelling alone, did quite a bit of it from an early age, relaxing, time to reflect and just be yourself, without the expectations, responsibilities and duties one usually has.

Travelling alone for work is okay, I would like a mix of both sometimes i would rather just do whatever i want while travelling and not have to deal with a colleague on a 6 hour flight, sometimes its fun..depends on who youa re flying with.

But never afraid of travelling alone, sometimes appreciative and sometimes bored by it.

Traveling alone can be fun sometimes.....I went alone to Pak like 3 years ago n went this year too. Trains[no worries] i lub taking the train alone or with friends even.
