halal chickens etc themselves?..that’s to say take the knife themselves and do the job.
I am asking since I have seen many women who don’t do that & they literally wait for the males to do the halaling.
Yes or no please state your reasons. 
why not? anyone who can recite kalimah and then say Bismillahay ALLah o Akbar and slaughter the animal in the name of ALLAH can do that :-)
Reason: Quran or hadeeth did not say it's a job of man... word muslim refers to both :-)
I thought so too but so many women i know HAVE TO get a male to do it for them, and it seems to me to be a taboo for a woman to go to the bazaar get a chicken and do the halaling herself right there 
I would suppose there’s more of the ‘yuck’ and ‘oh the poor animal’ factor involved…However if you can take a knife and slaughter an animal, there’s no restrictions…
I remember the first time I slaughtered an animal…It was a chicken…The Holy Prophet :saw: reminds us that the knife to slaughter must be as sharp as possible to minimize the pain…I however had a knife which was sharpened in the house…Only I know how I slaughtered that poor chicken, and swore never to it again unless I have a knife sharpened by a professional…
Your query just reminded me of that experience…
Lajawab believe me it’s not that factor, it’s sort of like ‘they don’t have a male to do it for them’ :-l kind of factor which i think discourages women to do so.
You reminded me of a male who didn’t like slaughtering chickens and his wife actually had to ask my dad to do the slaughtering for her…
I was sort of a kid and I asked my dad why that uncle doesn’t do the slaughtering and my dad is like he doesn’t like to do it or maybe his emaan is weak shrugs
I also know another male who can do 1 or 2 but for more he has to ask another male to do the rest.
I just wanted to make sure that women are ALLOWED to do so.

YES THEY ARE.
But my mom is not convinced

I have never seen any such restriction. women usually have weak heart to do the “halaling” so its men who do it.
She thinks women should only do it when men are not around, like when you have no other way…And it’s not just her who thinks this way.

I think my mom did it when I was a lil kid.
If your mom is convinced that she can't slaughter a chicken then she shouldn't be touching meat either unless men are around. Point is, women are allowed to slaughter animals. Its been a custom for men to do it as we are labelled the hunters and while women cook. Just because butchers have been men through out doesn't mean that a woman is not allowed to touch an animal. There is no halaal or haraam to it. Its just a custom that men slaughter while women don't.
I guess she was brought up to think that way kay women cant’ slaughter unless there’s majbooree…

An uncle of mine consulted a sunni scholar who said IF there are no men around then a woman CAN slaughter.
But how do you define "no men". No male in your family or neighbourhood or what?
Any idea?
My mom's friends are saying that women if they really have to (if no adult male is around) slaugher have to get a male child's hand and do the slaughtering process WITH the males child's hand. that's to put your hands over his hands and cut.

Yaaar there is no compultion of any sort. If a woman feels comferable doing this then go ahead. Otherwise wait for a male to do the job.
It is not a big issue, and no restriction just the matter of ease. :)

I asked my dad to ask the imam here..and he couldnt come up with any basis for saying that its wrong for women to do the halaling, so its not wrong or haram. But he did say that traditionally, men do it...and so its almost like a sunnah if u let the man do it..

It's a big issue for those who dont' have adult males around ;-) and hear different views regarding this, thus making it more confusing :)

In my opinion too leave it for the men to do but when you dont' have adult males around, it's time to think if women can do it, instead of always asking people to do it for you :)
