Are we special?

Re: Are we special?

Yeah, but they have not figured out how to document and preserve knowledge for posterity. Opposable thumbs allow us to do that and that is why we have writing, culture, art etc. The ability to convey and understand an idea, to improve on it is all due to our thumbs.

Re: Are we special?

What is opposable thumb?

Re: Are we special?

Some species are better in one way and others in their own ways but…with all things combined, Human are still by far special creation in the universe.

Re: Are we special?

what is this "all things combined"? even the stupid dragonfly or cockroach has been around and thrived a lot longer than humans have, and probably will after we are done. humans are just a tiny speck in a tiny fraction of time in the whole lifetime of the universe, a blink in the eye of time, here for a period of nearly nothing and gone soon. we are special to us, but that is about it.

Re: Are we special?

Since this thread is about Philosophy, Religion and Science, let me say the above poster doesn't know what he is talking about. As has been explained MULTIPLE times, our current yug is worth one wink from our Creator, Brahma. When Brahma winks again, a whole new yug is created. And humans re occupy the earth. And Brahmas influence extends far beyond the reaches of the earth.

;)

Re: Are we special?

Extend your right hand (or left), palm up, and curl your fingers towards you rside. You can curl your thumb in opposite (facing front). That combination helps you to hold things, as heavy as a sledgehammer, and as delicate as eye surgeon's forceps, with equal efficiency. That is only possible cause you have opposable thumbs. Most of the creatures dont have that.

Re: Are we special?

Wow. Just did it. Never thought of that. That is cool indeed.

Re: Are we special?

planetariums sucks! queers english isgood! who did you teach? ohgood me out to destroy your lingo on good!

Fake ego definitely seems to be our special trait.

Suicide, suicidal attacks, rape, child molestation... unique to mankind for most of the part

Re: Are we special?

above all the madness, we tend to glorify as war.

Re: Are we special?

I believe we are not special and each and every creature or a thing or an object in this universe is as equal as human.Or in other words we are special as equal as all others in this universe or we are not special as equal as all others in this universe. It was not until Mr. J.C Bose discovered that plants do have senses,we humans were ignorant about that fact.Earlier, animals were hunted down and killed for fun but our conscience has changed a lot and now we have a whirlpool of animal lovers and their caretakers around us.Now we know that Chimpanzees do express feelings just like we do and I am sure we will take these studies to more animals and birds in future and we all will realize one day that all the creatures and things in this universe are equal and special.

Re: Are we special?

Can humans perfectly duplicate Humming bird's nests?

Re: Are we special?

Can humans fly pass continents without the help of G.P.S and other things, like Artic Terns do? They simply cover 40,000 K.M .They come back to their destination of origin without any sophisticated equipment.

Here we humans still have no clue of a flight that has gone missing for months. With all RADAR,SONAR blah blah...

And the bird is just 100 gms. As we with all the obesity,Six Packs,8 Packs or some other packs are still still sitting dumb and clueless about a flight that gone off RADAR and with all resources in places, not even a screw of the plane is found yet, these birds just cover the distances like a simple joke. Are we special?

Re: Are we special?

Good work!
now think back wards, what other specie with so little skills have establish what humans have?
Our speciality is our language and cumulative learning abilities, those 2 are only given to humans on this level.

Re: Are we special?

Who gave these qualities to humans?

Re: Are we special?

O.K

But it is also because of the developed vocal folds of humans that we are able to speak and converse in different languages.

Can we communicate like Dolphins do?Again bats use Ultrasounds. Can we do like them?

For humans, there is an evolved vocal fold and system and for animals/birds they have a different system. But how are we special compared to them,in any case?

Re: Are we special?

Again cumulative learning abilities of humans is the result of exposure to bases, that have already been formed by our predecessors. Humans with their dominant strength could over rule the planet and it's other inhabitants ,by way of force. But despite having such massive force and resources(ofcourse a large part of this resources is derived(even forcefully) from the nature)we humans are just sitting ducks to the forces of the nature. We all know what had happened when Tsunami waves stuck us in different parts of the world. We simply could not do anything about it.Earthquakes and volcano eruptions are just nightmares for us.

Animals/birds are better equipped than we humans,I believe because they get a forewarning to all these natural calamities. Not only to natural calamities but even to `man made disasters' aswell. Let us look at the case of Pear Harbour strikes by Japan. It is said that animals and birds were restless and were seen frantic before Zero fighters wreaked their havoc on Pearl Harbour in 1940.So our learning skills and knowledge are just the precipitation of the bases we have got and not because of any special powers. This is what my obseravation is.
