While we are all rightly focussed on World T20 at the moment, do we really know who will be leading us in the main world cup in 2011 - which is barely 9 months away? Most established nations have atleast this important issue already settled
Australia - Ponting
England - Strauss
India - Dhoni
New Zealand - Vettori
South Africa - Graeme Smith
Sri Lanka - Sangakkara
West Indies - Gayle
But there is so much uncertainty and confusion surrounding Pak cricket at the moment that we do not even know who will be the test captain in England for the tough 2 and 4 tests against Australia and England respectively.
The 1st test against Australia is on July 13 at Lord’s.
Based on our recent test batting performances (and esp. if Mohammad Yousuf does not return) a combined 6-0 test thrashing is a real possibility this summer!
We badly need Younis Khan back as captain for the test series in England and also for the main world cup next year. There is no other viable choice for tests atleast IMO.
Hope his ban is lifted in time for the tough series against Australia and England this summer.
Younis appeal postponed to May 29
Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan’s appeal against the indefinite ban imposed on him by the PCB has been postponed to Saturday May 29. Younis’ lawyer, Mohammad Ahmed Qayyum, said that the one-man tribunal chaired by Irfan Qadir, did not order an immediate stay on the ban and expressed his disappointment at the latest development.
“We requested the arbitrator to at least issue an interim stay against the suspension but he deferred our request until May 29,” Qayyum told Associated Press in Lahore. “It’s a stigma on my client as I feel he has done nothing wrong.”
Another former captain, Shoaib Malik, also appeared before Qadir with his lawyer, and the new date for his hearing has been fixed for May 22.
“The arbitrator listened to our arguments and now representatives of the Pakistan Cricket Board will present their arguments in the next hearing,” Malik told reporters.
Seven Pakistan players were penalised, for various reasons, by the PCB in the aftermath of a winless tour of Australia. Younis and Mohammad Yousuf, who has retired from international cricket, were banned indefinitely. Malik and Naved-ul-Hasan were banned for a year while the Akmal brothers and Shahid Afridi were fined and placed on a six-month probation. Each of the players, with the exception of Yousuf, have appealed against the punishments.
Younis and Yousuf were accused of “infighting” and having a “negative influence” on the team. Qayyum also criticised the leaking of the inquiry committee report, upon which the penalties were based, to the media. “We have also raised objection on the leakage of the report and it’s very clear that it’s done with a mala fide intentions against Younis.”
re: Are we focusing on the bigger picture? Test Series in England/Main WC next year
Please no Younis Khan as captain, we don't want a cry-baby/drama-queen to lead us, he can come back as a player if he wants. I'd rather take Kamran Akmal or Salman Butt as captain (knowing he will be part of the team anyways).
Re: Are we focusing on the bigger picture? Test Series in England/Main WC next year
born leaders have the ability to get along with others. if you can't get along with anyone in the team, you're not a leader - born or otherwise.
all Pak captains want to be Imran Khan when they should first try to make the team win something meaningful before trying to be all high and mighty.
it doesn't mean that if 6-7 players take an oath to get rid of the captain, they should be allowed to get away with. you need to bring the hammer down on such retarded conspirators. but surely there was something wrong with Younis Khan when Aqib Javed said that not a single player liked Younis Khan because of his attitude.
Re: Are we focusing on the bigger picture? Test Series in England/Main WC next year
how about making Gul captain? he seems clean. tries hard even if he isn't a superstar. plus he has experience leading Peshawar in first class.
I would have said Kamran but his and Umar Akmal's shenanigans were disgusting on the Aussie tour.
realistically speaking though if Afridi is any team, he will not let any captain lead in peace. so, the PCB will be blackmailed into letting Afridi the fasaadi lead the team.
the ban on younis will be lifted coz no allegations have been proved on him ....
n he is innocent too ......infact he is a hero ...shame on PCB who is banned the world cup winning captain
so, the same people who testified against Malik also testified against Younis. but Malik is guilty because of the statements of the team management but Younis is innocent despite the statements by the same team management?
sorry I don't get it. I'm stupid. draw me some pictures and explain to me how Younis is innocent when the rest are guilty.

thats what the reports say ..still v dont know about Malik's reports.......the hearing have been postponed ........may be both will get free from the ban
Re: Are we focusing on the bigger picture? Test Series in England/Main WC next year
makes sense to make Afridi ODI captain.. he is t20 captain and almost a guarantee selection for an ODI side. we dont have much time till the WC, makes sense to make the preparation for this WC count towards that one.
for tests its much tougher. no real candidates there :/
