Re: are we allowed to dance?
Personally I would never ever dance. The whole idea of getting exposed and people looking at my body moving and shaping in all different directions is just plain wrong and so non-Islamic. My parents always brought me up with same thinking that dancing is wrong and I am glad I did. If you really like the whole idea of dancing then maybe with your gal friends in your house for fun is ok but nothing otherwise. In our family dancing is considered chichora pan.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
If music is haraam then automatic dance becomes haraam, because nobody dances on khabernama.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
Perfect example of dumb things can get in a religion.
Did ALLAH give you feet, hands , head. Did he give you brain to make instruments for work and killing . What did Allah say, have no fun, just work and kill? Therefore why can you not make musical instruments?
Feet are to get you from here and there. But inbetween enjoy life Allah gave to you and DANCE. if he did not want you to he would not have given you the ears to hear birds sing, wolves howling, cats meowing, dogs barking, sound of rustling leaves in the wind, the howling cold wind, and the slapping of waves. And if you hear music in nature , then why did ALLAH give you a brain. Can it not be used to create a beautiful sound of your own from an instrument you made for music.
DANCE IS ENJOYMENT, BALLET, WALTZ, FOXTROT, TANGO, I took dancing lessons as a child and teenager. As for space between sexes. Even with all the Quranic recitations in the middle east there is so much bloodshed that a little music and a little dancing between the sexes and same sexes is more needed today than ever!! But men have always been stubborn about learning to dance. I guess islam gives some of them great excuse.
makes you wonder how much is man's word really and truly!

Aa tujh ko batata hoon, taqdeer-r-Ummam kia hai,
Shasheer o Sina awwal, taaus or Rabab aakhir…
So, according to uberalles, success for the Muslims will come once we start dancing with opposite sexes…
Mod-Muslims, your great leader has arrived…He will be the one to ban beards, Madrassas, Masjids, stop all Muslims from learning how to defend themselves and will follow the example of the Kuffar to greatness and victory…
Mod-Muslims…Bow to greatness…
Re: are we allowed to dance?
all ubrela is trying to convey is that we should chill a little...if we relax and enjoy life a little more, than we wouldnt be so grouchy...we are always so scared to have a little bit of innocent fun...there is nothing wrong in dancing with little kids...its a great form of excercise...but ofcourse we are all so paranoid, but you know what is so funny, i have stressed this point many times...we worry about little things yet do other significant things that are way more harmful in islaam.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
I havent seen any Islamic directive that prohibits dancing. Perhaps one of you could provide it?
Re: are we allowed to dance?
[FONT=Times New Roman]Perhaps I am not good Muslim the piously indoctrinated or the people who believe in the Quran verbatim. Like the Torah, the Bible and Quran GOD spoke to a mortal. The words did not go on paper by god’s hand but by mans.
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman]I am presently studying at the University religious history and the spread of religious ideology and the wars waged to influence the spread of religion. I study the Judeo-christian faith, including the faiths and spiritual beliefs of people from other civilizations both ancient and modern. I wonder what if the North American Indian instead traveled the Globe to Europe and Middle East and conquered the lands what faith would be practiced in those lands today. Makes me wonder what the face of religious demographics would look like?
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman]Jews, Christians, Muslims all believe in the same GOD/ALLAH. There are Christian sects who believe dancing will bring the wrath of GOD. Yet I know many fine catholics who are honorable, honest, loyal and full of moral integrity and they dance. In Japan, the country with the longest living population ,( a lot of centenarians ) women and men dance, drink saki (alcohol beverage), practice their faiths (and not Judeo-christian or Islam) . My sister married a Greek man last year, orthodox, and their children will be raised to know not only each parent’s faith but others as well. It’s all about being a good spiritual being. Even atheists have spiritual goodness about them, they tend to worship the earth they live on and care for it .. But as in all faiths and beliefs there are even some crack pots there too that should be avoided.
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman]This is how I am. I call myself a reform Muslim like a few of my friends also consider themselves. We chuckle at this but its how we feel comfortable in being and worhipping.
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman]My parents took me to Islamic schools on Saturdays when I was a little girl, and to the mosque but they also encouraged me to participate in sports, take dance lesson, learn to play the piano (I was not good) and study hard in school. They encouraged us to learn other faith by activity and action. They have not only Muslim friends, but also Christian friends, jewish friends and Buddist friends and others. We have as a family visited their places of worship for their major religious occasions and I have celebrated Christmas and still do with many of my parents friends and my friends and borther in law family. . I have played with the Dradel, eaten at the Channukha meal. In turn they learn about Islam also but in a very loving , openly manner.
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman] I am not a good muslim to the pious or the religiously indoctrinated for I drink, dance, and occasionally smoke and yes I have a boyfriend and yes that happens to. But I do not rape, pillage, plunder, steal and kill and I do not support extremism of fanaticism of any kind in any religion. I go to school fulltime, work part time and respect my parents. I also volunteer in community and donate what I can to a couple of charities I believe in. Chirldrens and Wildlife/animal charities.
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman] I have not tolerance for pious, fundamental Christians, i.e.Jehovah’s witnesses etc , thumping their bible into everyone’s face or the orthodox practice of Jewish faith because such people zap the fun out of life, condemn everything and are full of hatred and the worse kind. The pious kind, they think as if GOD was on their side and only their side in their choice of condemnation .. I find these people too judgmental , too parochial and it seems if we all believe in the same GOD why must it be with such dissention amongst us all.
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman]And we are free will , and if we progress in life and choose another means purely from the mind and heart to love GOD/Allah in whatever manner or faith what is wrong with that. AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS STILL ONE GOD, THE SAME GOD AND THE PATH LEADS TO THE SAME DESTINATION
[FONT=Times New Roman]
[FONT=Times New Roman]And yes George Bush is a Christian, but too intolerant of many and truthfully he ain’t much better then the other fundys
Re: are we allowed to dance?
^^
I wrote a nice long reply to your post, but I lost it for some reason…
The gist of it was that you remind me of myself post 9/11…
I too was a victim of my own ignorance…I never prayed, never read the Quran or Ahadith but instead studied Christianity, Daoism, Buddhism, Hinduism…Never occured to me to study my own belief…
I too was taken in by the lies of the media and propaganda that told me that Muslims were a backwards, ignorant people who killed for fun…It was ingrained through Hollywood and constant propaganda from the media…
It was after I took a course in Islamic history and civilization here in the States that I realized how duped I was…I started reading Ahadith and slowly the Quran…
I then realized what I had done…I had taken the honour and prestige of being a Muslim and replaced it with trying to be something I was not meant to be…I never knew what my identity was…I called myself a Muslim but never tried to be one…I didn;t have an identity…I didn’t pray, didn’t do this and that…Everything that makes me a Muslim, I tried to shrug off…
But eventually, thanks to 9/11, I realized who I was…I was and am a Muslim and may Allah take my life upon that…And I would not wish to be anything else…
After I started reading and learning about Islam, everything I did before, in trying to ‘fit in’ or trying to be cool, seems in hindsight, so goofy…Everything I did back then, I ask for forgiveness from Allah :swt: with a sheepish feeling…
When reality slaps you in the face, you will love the feeling…And wish for reality to slap you again and again…Getting slapped by reality is cool…
So, before you go and start learning and researching other relgions, study your own first…
Grow your roots first before you sprout leaves so that you are not carried away by the winds like I was…
Ask Allah :swt: for guidance…
May Allah :swt: guide you, Ameen Summa Ameen…
Re: are we allowed to dance?
Exactly why I don’t believe every word in Quran is Allah’s but rather of an influential tribal chief who got his two cents into the mix so that people would think it was ALLAH’s command and not some warlord mastermining his people into absolute submission and tunnel vision.
And the world was flat, I will repeat the world was FLAT, then, is it still?
However, millions of muslims sing and dance, some very good , some not so good but they are joyous without thought of killing while happily dancing and still they live their lives and ALLAH has not turned any of them into pigs and has not had mountains fall upon them. Even poor little Shirley Temple still lives now, and in old age!!!
go back to the cave and don’t come out till the world is FLAT AGAIN.![]()
Re: are we allowed to dance?
Well created by you and narrated how ever insincere your biography.
My moral compass and code are on course and please don't assume you are more knowledge religious history than I , as I am working toward a doctorate.
I am very confident in knowing who I am, very confident in knowing what I want, very comfortable in knowing my goals and very comfortable in pursuing them because I am a strong and proud woman who makes her own decisions
I am a better walker under GOD"s eyes and more pleasant for his viewing than the most ardent religious zealot or one who is profoundly dogmatic in his own religious belief to the expulsion of tolerance and enlightenment.
Historically, rulers and even GREAT Rulers were fearfull the populace would begin to think and ask questions. Some rulers lost their heads when public became enlightened and informed. I guess religion is the same as a Ruler.
At the end of the day its the same path, to the same GOD and no matter which way you worship or decide to worship it is the same GOD afterall.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
Why stop there? Why not simply reject Allah as a innovation of this "tribal chief"...?
It fascinates me how one can have a belief based on other's belief...there's something strange about that.
Insofar as all the wrong done in the name of religion...I don't buy it. Much more wrong has been done in the name of nation states, yet I see no one rushing to dump their citizenship.
Well let's be honest...some of us are paying taxes and are as a result paying to bomb the crap out of others... and that's fine ...another condemns dancing...then throw the guy in a cave....what a strange world we live in.
But let's all dance the funky chicken anyway...

*Because of the wrong done in the name of Religious states, I see they are all rushing to dump their citizenship to be and live in the west *

I don't think you understood...but if you don't want to confront the violence you are in fact supporting materially, I don't blame you. It's a very difficult thing for any of us first or second generationers to deal with.
Much easier poking fun at those non-dancers...

So.. what makes you think dancing is prohibited in Islam?
Perhaps, improving your reading skills, and ability to understand would help solve your questions, rather then just pulling random verses from one place and mixing it with something totally different.
