**Question: **
I had a discussion with some Muslims who do not seem to think that dancing at parties is at variance with Islamic teachings. Could you please give me theological basis to cite to these folks on why it is wrong. I have already told them of the prohibition of being present where alcohol is being served.
**Answer: **
Dear Br. M. As-Salaamu Alaykum. Dancing at parties is prohibited in Islam as well as being in parties where alcohol gets served. This prohibition is based on the Hadith of prophet Muhammad (pbuh). But the prohibition of being in dancing parties goes beyond the alcohol issue, because you know very well that there are dancing clubs that don’t allow alcohol or smoking. So does this make them O.K.? of course not. The prohibition of being in dancing parties involves the whole atmosphere of such parties where all kinds of indecent behavior takes place: from touching, kissing, wearing indecent clothes, listening to loud music, etc. , each one of them is enough to make dancing parties haram. Allah says in the Quran 17:32 ‘‘And do not come near zina; indeed, it is an abomination and evil way.’’ Dancing parties inherently tempt and excite people towards unapproved actions. According to the above verse we should stay away from actions that can lead to even a remote possibility of immorality. The best thing we can advise you to do is to always remind these people of their wrong behavior in a delicate way to keep the communication channel open with them. Try to invite them to a mosque activity or to a dinner where you can further discuss these and other issues. Thank you for asking and may God help you.
**Question: **
Assalam Alaikum Wa rahmatullahi Wa barakatuhu!!! I have a question regarding dancing. Is dancing allowed in Islam?? Some people have told me it is not, but I know many Muslims who do participate in this activity. Since I can not find any hadith or other source of information on this topic, could you please help me? I will appreciate your help. JAZAKHALLAH KHAIRAN!!! Wa laikum Assalam!!
**Answer: **
Dear Br./Sr.: As-Salaamu Alaykum. In general and considering the way dancing is most of the time performed nowadays, it is absolutely not allowed. If dancing is restricted to Children, women ALONE (when women are meeting alone), or men alone in occasional gatherings, then it is o.k.. Still, the condition for such type of dancing is that it shouldn’t take time off your prayers or other acts of prescribed worship activities, and shouldn’t be transformed into habits and wild acts; then it becomes Haram. And God knows best. Thank you for asking.
**Question: **
Is dancing permissible. If not, why?
**Answer: **
There is no rigid ruling concerning dancing, just like many other activities. Decent dancing which does not aim at arousing unacceptable emotions, and does not make of the women’s body an object of exciting desires, and does not involve holding or pulling close to oneself a member of the opposite sex, is permissible. Many communities have folk dancing which is acceptable from the Islamic point of view. The dancers would be respectably dressed and the dance may involve elaborate movements, but it remains decent. It involves no exciting of desire to do anything forbidden. When such dances are performed by men, or when they are performed by women in presence of women audience only, these are permissible. When the delegation from Abyssinia visited the Prophet, they performed some of their folk dancing in the mosque. The Prophet watched them and he also lowered his shoulders so that Lady Aisha, his wife, could watch. Had every type of dancing been forbidden, the Prophet would not have done so. He would have made the ruling clear to all present. http://islamicity.com
hope that helps

Praise be to Allah.
This is from Saheeh Bukhari, the most authentic book of Muslims after Holy Quran.
Volume 7, Book 69, Number 494v:
Narrated Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari:
that he heard the Prophet saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."
Salams
I just know that listening to musical instruments is Haram. Good poems is fine but not with the musical instruments.
Thats it ! . hk has already given good information.

Re: are we allowed to dance?
hmmm every thing seems to be haram in our religion...i enjoy so many pak groups and i believe there are some very talented arabic singers too...uff we are all going to end up in hell...well i dont pray 5 times so definitely im heading there...uff im so depress now
Re: are we allowed to dance?
Haha what is dancing really? Moving your body for the sake of fun (no real purpose)... we "dance" all the time...live with it.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
that means I get to see half of your nation in hell with me. Thats something to be excited about.
On a serious note, shouldn't it depend what kind a dance and among whom you are dancing?
Re: are we allowed to dance?
I think dance is an expression, it is an art like painting or music or cooking. Is this personal view of few that it is haraam, or does Islaam bans it?
Re: are we allowed to dance?
i love to dance, i get bored and jealous participating..
Salsa, bellydancing, BHANGRAAAAA
all look so much fun an dI’d love to do it but I know i’d never have hte nerve to dance even in a roomfull of girls (unless it was totally pitch dark :D)..
There’s a new trend: stripperobics.. you learn how to dance like a stripper/pole dancer, and oh my it looks quite difficult (splits, flips, kicks, all while wearing high heels etc).. I’d take that sorta class one day in the future.. ![]()
Re: are we allowed to dance?
I never knew AJ was once a fundo too…WTG AJ…
Re: are we allowed to dance?
haha sara comeon get serious, if you cant dance fully dressed now unless its pitch dark what makes you think you will be able to with heels and poles on.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
^ Lol stripperobics doenst involve high heels and nudity , just high heels and a pole.. its just like an aerobics class, im assumin everyone wears their regular workout gear.. ![]()
Re: are we allowed to dance?
yeah the idea is to strengthen your calf and leg muscles and make women more comfortable in their heels. but i believe it would wreck havoc on your feet dancing with high heels on.
Re: are we allowed to dance?
^ And to spice up the love life ![]()
Okay ill stop talkin abt sex and strippers in the rreligion forum ![]()
