I have come across auntijis who will ask people what they did at uni,or what they do, and if the response is doc/laawyer automatically its a mashallah from them, however if the response is anything but that…theyl say chalo job to hain na, aaj kal to job bi nahi milte…
whats so mashallah about certain jobs in peoples eyes.
I know when I was finishing my school the ultimate goal for all the students used to be "engineer ya doctor bana hai" It has been coming down from generations. Doctor for girls and Engineer for boys. That's why doctor girls get good rishtas too. It's just a mind set or perception of people that they give more value to certain professions than other.
We don't have rocket science in Pakistan , otherwise I think haar parent chahta kay uska son/daughter rocket scientist banay !
When I tell people that I have done MBA I get that 'chalo ..." kinda reaction but when I tell my designation I get the "masha allah ..." Again it's the way how people perceive.
actually my MIL is like this, my hubby is working in retail at the moment but she will still say oh logo ko kya bataygengay , kay humara masters educated beta kapro ki dukaan mein kaam kara hai.....grrr
