I know certain leaders tombs are quite acceptable because they were either the ‘first’ leader or a great leader. But if people make a tomb out of a family of people that passed away, isn’t that kinda like sending a message that we’re better, u don’t get to be buried here because it’s our lot, thus being not so muslim-like?! I’m just a bit confused about that. And it came to me while i was watching BB’s visit to her father’s tomb where her other family members are buried as well. And the entire area is cordoned off with walls around it.
I know about darbars but that’s a different topic altogether…please shed some light on it anyone that knows a bit about it…

You are either for tombs or against. There is no gray area. ** I am for them, as they are a part of our history and remind us of who we are and where we came from.** It is a critical way our children will learn, since seeing is something like that is a surreal part of a childs life.
Some of us here are oblivious to this fact, and foam at the mouth when they hear the word TOMB. These enlightened folks use interesting verbage. They want to destroy MOST shrines. Lord knows why the hypocrisy. Maybe you can ask them.
But going by their logic, any tomb should be vaporized. That includes all the saudi princes and middle east richmen, whose "tombs" are even greater. We can go a step farther and say that no tombstones should be allowed either at normal grave yards.

yes after some time , there will be no place for living people , whole world will be converted into grave yard and tombs and nothing else

should be
i don't think there is any tomb for any late saudi king , is there, where ?
Well, if you follow Wahabi school of thought then no tombs are permitted. They used that logic to run bulldozers over tombs and graves of all Sahabis and family members of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Saudi Arabia. If you follow other schoold of thought than it is ok... (until Wahabis get a chance to destroy those tombs).

bahi meray , suppose if tombs would have been allowed , and all the people who die would have tombs , would there have been any place on earth for the living people
and second don't suppose me as a wahabi ( a termed used by berelvi ( grave worshippers ) for ahley hadees )

Lack of space on this earth is a pathetic excuse to destroy tombs. If this was the case, the tombs/graves of non-muslims and non-Wahabis would fill this earth. Allah has made this earth big enough for any one and every one to make tombs if they choose to...
in Makkah, there is this graveyeard... naam yaad mahi aaraha, anyways, the guide told us that Hazrat Khadija was buried here, but they had no idea where... we shud take heed from such Muslims...
i'm not talkin about hadith, i'm referring to it socially, and how amongst culture(s) it's acceptable. That's why i wanna know whether (in the light of Ahadith or other sources) it is permissible, or is it considered wrong?

I think you are talking about Jannat-ul-Baqi. Now you can not find Hazrat Khadeeja's grave because all those graves and tombs were razed and run over by bulldozers by Saudi Wahabis in 1930s.

Thank you...now we're getting warmer. That's what i wanna know, like shouldn't all people be buried equally.

umm... the graves looked prettey defined from what i saw... i cant imagine them bulldozing Hazrat Khadija's grave ?
In my opinion, there is no requirement nor a need of tombs according to the Quran since the Scriptorial rhetoric (not talking about Hadith) is that "We know what the Earth takes of them": Those who claim "howcome when we have died and become dust?" in the Text of Qoph/Qaaf ('Qaaf' inferring that the reader stop and think/reflect)
It is a person's deeds that are important, not that person's tomb/remains since they WILL become dust according to the set of Divine laws, regardless of what traditional literature says about bodies of saints being preserved till the day of purging (yaum al qiyaamah).
