Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

Or is all meat (cow, goat, sheep, etc) slaughtered by Muslims over there, so there is no issue about it at all?

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

Halal meat- is done the Islamic way (Muslims & some non Muslims eat it).

Jatka meat - Eaten by non muslims only.

Cow slaughter is allowed - to accomodate the Muslim & Christian population.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

No you need to find out. Most of the time it is Muslim who are in this business so it is usually Zabihah. But even if it is Hindi they will let you do the Zabah yourself then will sell you the meat,

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

^So i am guessing that most butcher shops are owned by Muslims...as most hindus are vegetarians...hence not much trouble in finding the zabihah shops???

What about restaurants ,especially those in big hotels,do they have seperate Menu for Halal foods???

What about McDonalds,KFC etc???

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

It may depend which part of india you are talking about, and sometimes which area within the city.

I am more familiar with Delhi, in old Delhi there is no problem for Halal meat restuarants, but in other parts you will need to check up, before ordering.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

True… Specially in North India.

Who told you that,

No there arnt seprate menu. You should ask if you do not know if they serve Zabihah.

To take care of sentiments of Hindus and Muslims. They sell Zabihah and do not sell Beef.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

100% of Mumbai's kasaikhanas are owned and operated by muslims. I never remember my family every buying our meet anywhere but at our muslim butcher's.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

So it is guaranteed that McDonalds/KFC wouldn’t be selling Jhatka chicken???For Zabihah do they have contracts with muslim qasais/butchers or they just claim that they do it zabihah…if they are only hiring muslims …wouldn’t hindus be at disadvantage…

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

A common Paki misunderstanding…

I am a Hindu and I do not discriminate between animals…

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

^ I didn't know that...

i thought that Traditional hindu families in India prefer to be vegetarians....

besides i have very seldom seen religious hindu families eating meat etc even here in USA....

Lastly it's good that you don't discriminate among aminals...i hope same stands for Hindu caste system....

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

^If you are here to put down Hinduism...caste system et al...be my Guest !!

Most of your friends in the US are probably South Indian Hindu Brahmins (in other words - the usual Software folks) , most of whom are indeed Vegetarians.

But India is a vast country you see....e.g. Hindus in Manipur/Nagaland do not even spare a dog or snake...Hindus in Bengal relish FISH...its their staple diet....and so on....Now go figure...

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

^ some1, its a 'common belief' among us (Pakistanis) that Hindus are vegetarians, if it is incorrect then I don't know who to blame for this incorrect info, may be media to some extent. I have come across many Hindus at work some of them will eat anything available (from veggies to pork), some would not even touch an egg or cheese.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

Must the caste system and general put downs be brought up in every discussion about India and Hindus?

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

Are there any significant number of Hindus in Naga/Manipur…i always thought those were Christian/Buddhist majority states…

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

Well i usually don’t …but my friend here from west Bengal told me that Indias main cultural culprit is Caste system etc…besides i was just hoping for some 1 that he doesn’t discriminate amongst his fellow beings(not saying anything bad)…anyways its good to know that many indians in india like to eat meat…I guess north indian muslims are better off when it comes to zabihah meat…

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

how

Hindus usually dont have as many hangups like us.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

It is one of those stereotyping that is prevelent on other side of border.
Yes..some are vegeterian but they are actually a small minority.
My Hindu friend die to eat chicket Briyani and Kabab( beef) at my home.

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

^Why don't they cook beef at his home???Besides i have heard that hindus can't cook 'biryani'???

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

I mean muslims are only 12% of india, hindus are 80%…loss of “qasai” job market for hindus…

Re: Are there issues with Zabeha and Non-Zabeha meat in India?

Yaar … Being Non-vegeterian means not eating any meat at all. As I said earlier you will find very few Hindu of that kind. Mostly they would be Brahmins from South.

Now coming to people who do not eating beef. This crowd will obviously be bigger than previous one since cow being sacred animal is not meant to be eaten. But I have noticed, very few of new Generation Hindus are very strict about it. Many of these do it without telling their parents. Parent being from older generation are more stricter than this generation. This is also the reason that it is not cooked at Home.

Coming to Briyani… Hindus from Hyderabad or those who made effort to learn usually make good Briyani. It is pretty much like many Muslims dont make good Dosas.
