I think it depends on your circle. I know women who have married eye candy and vice versa.

I also know families where the pressure falls only on the girl to make the marriage work and vice versa.

I can’t really generalize because for each story or example there are always many to counter them.

That being said, I would not be surprised if it was a growing trend.

I have been around the block a bit so I can definitely say that looks are starting to be valued a lot more. Maybe the media has a lot to do with it. Before if you had a good career you could get your pick of good looking girls. Not so anymore.
