Are Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists... offshoots of Hinduism?

Andhra if interaction between Hindu castes is so good here on earth then tell us what the Hindu relgion believes in the "afterlife"?

Isn't it true that the Hindu religion says that High Caste Sinners will be reincarnated as Low Caste Hindu's as a form of "degarding" punishment! And Low Caste sinners will be reincarnated as animals!

What does that show of the Hindu religion's view of interaction between castes in the hereafter?

A Vedic Brahmin who says the Manusmrti is a pile of cack is also a Hindu.

I keep wondering - why do you keep seeking answers about Hindutva from a Pakistani website? Honestly - there is absolutely no way that you are going to find the correct representation of Hindutva members here who can answer your questions. If you really want to know why they do what they do, why not go to a Hindutva website (or heck, go to an RSS/VHP meeting at a location near you) and ask them straight up? Why look for answers where you aren't going to find them?

Hold up, now. The words "Hindu" and "hereafter" don't go together, at least not in the way that you are putting them together.

Do you get reincarnated into a lower caste, or even into an animal for "sins". Sure, that's a good, simple way of looking at it. But you can't stop there. When speaking of the reincarnation, you speak of the Law of Karma. Good karma means you move up in station, bad karma means you move down. If you have bad karma, you may be born into a poor family, with a mother who is a crack-whore, and a deadbeat father. Doesn't mean you are stuck there forever:

a) The Buddhist explains this the best - your bad karma will eventually run out, and your situation will improve in the next birth.

b) Not only does bad karma run out, but you can negate it with good karma.

c) Similarly, good karma runs out, and a person born into nobility/aristocracy/whatever, will eventually move back down.

d) To break out of this cycle of birth and rebirth, we have to move beyond it, and realize the Ultimate Reality.

Very interesting stuff Astrofan thanks, but I am slightly unclear on wheter when you talk about good and bad karma are you talking of buddhist or Hindu beliefs? Or are Hindu and Buddhist beliefs about reincarnation identical?

Does it in effect me that whether you are high or low caste its the level of your karma that decides your life destiny?

Astrofan,

Do I qualify as a Hindu?

Xtreme…if you believe that God is one but there can be different ways to “reach” him, then I guess you can call yourself a Hindu – Even if you don’t believe in God, you can

But I won’t call you a Hindu or you might take offence. Now as a friend I wouldn’t want you to get mad at me, would I

Ah, now we have a great question. Simply put, I cannot answer that question as I have not read a post by you that explains your belief system or your theory on metaphysics and spirituality. If you provide them, we can discuss if you qualify as a Hindu.

In particular though, I will define the Hindu, for your purposes, as a person who interprets and/or expands upon the Vedas and/or Upanishads. If this is you, then you are a Hindu. If this is not you, then probably, you are not a Hindu. In the case where your beliefs are parallel to those in the Vedas or Upanishads, then perhaps you are a Hindu without knowing it.

Even in the case of Charvaka (the materialistic ethical hedonism), the arguer relies on guidance from the Vedas to substantiate his claims.

Astrofan, BK etc - how are people who convert to Hinduism viewed as in the Hindu community taking into account that Hinduism has a strictly caste-based religion?. What caste does a completely new Hindu (with no Hindu ancestors at all) belong to uon conversion? Does he start at the bottom and work himself up?

Malik the Caste system of today with thousands of castes instead of the original four itself probably came about because of conversions.

You have to remember no other religion was known until Jainism and Budhhism came along.

I guess it is like “Make your own Caste!”

There are several options !

1.Take the Caste of the Hindus you like best.

2.Get yourself adopted to a Hindu and take his caste.

3.Declare yourself a casteless Hindu.

Does he start at the bottom and work himself up?<<

Don’t be crazy, who wants to start at the bottom ?

Xtreme you were asking if you are Hindu

The fact is if you say you are there is nothing I can do about it.

On the other hand if I say I am a Muslim you can immediately come up with things I am not doing and proove I am not a Muslim.

Andhra - do you want to become a Muslim? Its not a difficult process you know?

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

And it does not matter if you were a Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist or Jain etc before - Muslims are not allowed to hold a persons past beliefs against them…)

Yes if you can get me a dozen muslims ready to become Hindus

Muslims have quite fertile ground for conversion in India anyway with the Dalits etc. So maybe you can join us in the future?
