Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Just wonder when Pathans immigrate to Canada and you ask them what are you? They say they are Afghanis. So how does it go like that? Were they illegally living in Pakistani, were they refuge? Even though they live in Pakistan for the entire life, they consider themselves Afghanis when to go to other countries. Have you noticed that?

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

When a Paki is caught red-handed doing something naughty, he says he is an Indian...When an Indian gets caught he says he is a Paki...

They do it so that their respective religions are not maligned...Both Hindus and Muslims love their religion...So they lie about who they are so as not to give their religions a bad name...

How thoughtful...

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Don't Palestinians living in other countries now consider themselves Palestinian in culture? Don't Pakistanis living in the United States refer to themselves as Pakistanis sometimes, rather than Americans (granted, a lot of us do call ourselves Americans, but there is always that us vs. them mentality).

Don't chinese people living in Pakistan consider themselves still Chinese?

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

So that's mean there are like 30% Afghanis living in Pakistan? Since all Pathans are Afghanis?

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Being an Afghan doesnt mean somebody living in Afghanistan. Afghan is another name for Pashtoon/Pathan. A person can be Afghan and Pakistani at the same time. Just like you can be Punjabi and Pakistani at the same time.

I am a muslim, an afghan and a Pakistani. And i don't see any conflict in being all of them at the same time.

We are talking about people who happen to be of the same religion,So there is no issue of maligning each other's religions. As for as Afghanis are concerned they have always hated Pakistan but at the same time they are so Baysharam that they keep on living and eating in Pakistan. Five million regfugees living in Pakistan for the last 25 years but not a single word of thanks from that ungrateful Karzai. Afghanis and Kashmiris are the confused nationalities who carry pakistani passports and dont call themselves pakistanis. Go figure

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Alhumdullillah we are Muslims for sure and we should have unity.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

To be honest, there's too many hoaxers about, especially on the internet, and especially when it comes to Afghans. I only believe someone is an Afghan/Pathan/Pashtun/Pakhtun (however many words you want to describe), when I meet them in person. I can tell usually when someone is Pashtun and when someone isnt (look wise). I don't really go for the linguistical classification of Pashtuns at all.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Thank you Shadan You are a proud muslim, afghani and a pakistani:)

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Generally, real Afghanis (Pathans) living in Afghanistan and not the fake Western trash do not hate Pakistan (aside from the nationalists perhaps).

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

I respect your views but i disagree!

Most of the Afghans may not have a very favorable opinion of Pakistan. But that is natural. The fact that Pakistan has given refuge to Afghans is commendable. But it doesnt justify the intereference of Pakistan in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. Its just like we have hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis living in the USA and in Europe. But that doesnt mean USA can attack and oppress Pakistan or Pakistanis. We must be objective. While i don't like people abusing Pakistan. But it is because some of our so-called leaders HELPED destroy afghanistan. I don't doubt their intentions. But they did have their role in the destruction of Afghanistan, whether they wanted it or not.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

^^ Afghanistan destroyed itself. It should take responsibility for that. They could not peacefully co-exist after the Soviets withdrew, and turned their guns on each other. Of course before this, Afghanistan was ruled by the King, but then power got usurped by another Afghan, Daoud Khan. This led to instability, and finally the Communist government grabbed power, who then invited in the Soviet Union which led to the war. My take, had it not been for the unadulterated greed of an Afghan (Daoud Khan), the Communists would not have invited in the Soviets, and Afghanistan would probably not have been in the state it is today. This was a purely Afghan problem that led to its demise. Pakistan can take a very small responsibility (though for what i'm not sure, as it helped Afghanistan defeat the Soviets), but make no mistake, that it was Afghanis themselves that are the cause of their woes today.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

I agree the average pashtun/afghani living in Afganistan does not hate Pakistan and neither is the average kashmiri. You are so right about these trashy fake and confused ones who mostly are driving taxis in all large north american cities AND have forgotton their roots and auqaat.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

I think in North America you get the Tajiki type of Afghani, or at least ones with substantial Tajiki roots. In UK, there's not many Pashtuns, but the ones here I've seen are generally more proper Pashtuns.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

I know an Afghani girl who looks TOTALLY desi, i mean dark skinned, dark haired, nice body but really ugly personality.

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

^^ Like I said I have difficulty accepting a lot of self proclaimed Pashtuns as Pashtun. I've seen people like this as well, Indian yusufzais apparently in the case I know :D

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Is pashtun the same as afghani? I thought afghani is a nationality while pashtun is an ethnicity?

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

I totally disagree with you Shadan that Pakistan is responsible for all the problems Afganistan is having. Pakistan being a poor country itself is doing more than what it should to help Afghanistan.
- $500 million in aid over the past three years.
- 1000 trucks as a gift to Afghan government
- 300 km of road construction
- hosting and feeding 5 million refugees for the last 25 years and the list goes on and on

Re: Are Pathans considered Afghanis?

Afghanistan was created in the 1700's or somewhere around then. Before this there was no Afghani nationality. But there was a group of people known as Afghans (Pashtuns). When Afghanistan became established by Pashtuns it was called Afghanistan, and it became all confused. Short-sightedness really.
