father was in the military and was always (still is) dressed "proper" at home but i wouldnt say that he was ready for a social gathering of sorts at a minutes notice but i never seen him loungin around (unlike me) in PJs unless he was ready for bed. his hair is always groomed (military style still) and he shaves daily (unlike me)

yeah could be that too, was not sure how to really classify it, thats why i also used the term proper. but yeah disciplined and organized is also a factor, good point.

My dad only looks like a bum when he is just really ill. otherwise even when he is unwell he would wear a clean, pressed kurta shalwaar, shower, shave etc. Moi on the other hand dont tough the razor friday thru sunday. If I am sick, I am passed out in Pjs and tshirts, and thats what I am wearing around the house. he is always very proper, if its not a suit, its a sport coat, or pressed, starched kurta shalwars. He is comfortable that way.
My uncle, who is retired, gets up every morning, gets dressed, has a proper breakfast, reads the paper, watches Tv, goes out for a walk. walk into his house at any time and he is dressed to go. aside from the most formal of events what he normally wears around is good enough for a meeting, a social event.
I dunno..maybe I will be that way. but just looking at my dad, his old pics, his mannerisms, his style sense. I all of a sudden feel like a total bum.

Do u ever think (or hope) that we the bum generation, will ever be like them?! I suspect its having children that does that to them. although on the other hand we are growing up/ grown up ...really now... in a time and some of our case, in a place, where nothing is sacred! you can tell your teacher to shut up and your dad to f' off! ofcourse we still can't which is great! but still.... i fear times have so drastically changed...i doubt our - bum generations ability to b like them!
on the other hand maybe they were never bums, maybe we will always be.......maybe its a personality thing

among people of older genre my late grandfather used to be very deciplined , he'd military person kindda routine , woke up early , shave, dress up than had proper breakfast every day no matter what , my father is somewhat like him , he had same routine as my granddad's on weekdays but on weekends he tried to relax in the morning ,he do breakfast and all stuff but doesn't rush into getting dressed up , my mom do follow a proper routine , got up at tahajjud time ( since she was very young) pray in morning than get ready & get indulged into routine chores , both my parents r known as well dressed among their dear ones. That's all i've to say.........

Yep, my Dad takes care of his dress, and we all three brothers are bums. And on top of that i have started loosing hair and Dad has such a stylish hairstyle.

I cant imagine our kids seeing us and laughing at us

merc yer dad is much younger thanmine who went to uni in the 50s, so no bell bottoms then, many suits though
