Are muslims racist?

Just to put my two cents worth: As for the recent arguments re: Sikhism vs. Islam…Sikhs do consider Islam beneath themselves. To them eating Halal is Haram. First hand knowledge. They are not to eat anything slaughtered in the name of Allah. It is haram for them. So, I don’t know which one God all roads lead to as Rani is suggesting.

As Muslims, we have a faith. The faith teaches us to be tolerant to each other. History is proof of that…that is until the Muslims began to drift from the proper understanding of tolerance, when materialism came in the picture.

To keep it short: Xtreme, Tazz and Changez-like…

I have small kids. Yesterday, as Xtreme said in his earlier post about not mixing with the goras on grounds of picking up bad habits…, my five year old learned from our gora neighbors 7 year old that his pee pee is a butt-knocker and he asked me to go to ooze.com that has stuff about stuff coming out of your butt. So…what do I do? If I stop their interaction with the neighborhood kids I won’t stop them from learning the negative things but I will try to a limited fashions. Some try very hard.

Xtreme you have given reasons based on which I have concerns about my kids. Mixing in the local society is also a must for Muslims to carry on the work of God. We are to propagate our religion and it shows all around us. Within our faith we understand, believe, teach that Islam is the final revelation…the completion of Allah’s messages as send to Moses and Jesus (as). But the same token Islam say not to call a kafir a kafir… Wasn’t it the lack of recism that Islamic societies have had non-muslims in all levels of governments? Within the confines of religious debate, this is a moot topic. Like PM said earlier if we behave like this then why not the Chrisitans and Jews, etc. She is correct and on this basis we had jihads…an important aspect of Islam… not to say that that’s the only type of jihad.

Am I better then others as a Muslims? Absolutely. Should others react the same to me? It is their right. They should I complain? No. It becomes my duty to explain my faith and my understanding. If I convince the other, I win. If they convince me, they win. I both situations I, in my mind, I go to heaven. But as long as I am a Muslim and believe in myself and faith, I am better then a Shia, Qadiani, Agah Khani, Christian, Jew, Hindo, Sikh, Jain, etc.

Rani ,

Why do you deny many practices of Sikhs are borowed from Islam 500yrs ago when sikhism came .It may have been that many issues in Islam were also prevalent issues 1500yrs ago Arabia.

If women cover for respect just as muslims men & wiomen do for respect that is a religous similarity just as beard, preparedness to protect yourself through violence ( i know islam is for peace & non violence otherwise)The dress of Shalwar Kameez is no where in India 500yrs ago except north west india ,so it is not sikhness but prevalent at that time like recitation ,Incense, cleanliness at place of worship ,honesty, hard working devoted religiousity all bear resemblence to islam!!

Otherwise your mind is filled with scar of partition which was horrendous ,cataclasmic events no doubt to affect someone ,i understand you for that

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Why do I get this strong feeling that Pristine and Peacemaker are the same person?!?!?!?!

Racism is discrimination on the basis of ethnic background.

There are other forms of discrimination, e.g. on the basis of, religion, gender, sexual preference etc.

The better subject is to discuss is Discrimination and we will find that the entire human race is guilty. There is lots of room for improvement for all people. So what is the point of just looking at a very narrow subset of a very large problem.

Lets us begin to understand "What is discrimination?

Considering one self superior is no crime. When we act out that superiority and discriminate against others, we are being a bigot. Self pride is a good motiviator as long as it is within limits. It crosses limits, when we deny the basic and fundamental rights of others in social and civic life of a community.

A good indicator of bigotry is group pride and feeling of group superiority. This behaviour invariably leads to some form of discrimination. When members of a group consider themselves superior and start denying members of other groups their basic fundamental human rights.

e.g.

  1. whites think "all blacks are dumb, so dont give them jobs"

  2. Protestants in Ireland think that "Catholics are no good"

  3. The Taleban think that non muslims have to be treated differently"

  4. Muslims think its ok that "non muslims should pay a tax"

etc.

But what is the definition of Discrimination. We can fill pages and still not get it right. But we all know in our hearts what is discrimination.

Our conscience is the Voice of God. Follow it. If we still dont know which act is discrtiminatory, then the Basic Rule is

"Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself" This rule has worked for thousands of years.

Sorry for the lecture. I just happened to be in the right mood.

Peacemaker!

Your argument is right but it is confusing two things. The examples you have provided are very true and honest. I agree with you on the fact that Islam teaches us one thing and then we do some thing different. The only reason that I can see your point of view is because I have lived in Pakistan all my childhood and now living in England.

Now lets get things in points so that I can explain what I am saying here:

 Saying that parents do allow you to play with servant’s son because they will make you narrow minded and negative person it true but it is not what Islam teaches us. The last message from Mohammed PBUH clearly said that there is no superiority of White over Brown/Black or visa versa. But it is us as human, which are making all these different rules for different people.

 People living aboard asking their kids to play with Muslim children, is another issue. Now the way I am thinking, their parents force them to play with Muslim children because:
 They think that children will pick up bad habits or wrong things which aren’t allowed in Islam like arguing with elders, smoking, teenage sex, drugs etc. Because it is easy to pick up bad habits than good.
 They are also trying to protect them from what is been told in Quran as PEACEMAKER said.

 Asian people in England particularly when talk about racism, they confuse the issue as much as goray. Now look at the problem we had in Bradford, Leeds and Oldham. People are so against each other and they have their valid reasons but we never seem to resolve anything. Reason being it gives us (Asians) and English to blame it easily to others.

 Your view saying that every one is racist. I agree with you that we have built this boundary of what we can and can’t do living in western countries, which is very wrong. Now I live with gora and he respects me and I respect him. The ham business and BBQ is separate. He compromise with me and I compromise with him. But on the other hand I did know some people that didn’t like me because I am Asian which is their problem.

The bottom line is that I understand the way you are thinking and to confirm what I am saying is that “ Muslims are not racist but People are”.
